melbourne groover replied to nunheadmum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Kids numbers is ok. Haven't got any phonics ones though. -
Cradle cap in an 11 week old
melbourne groover replied to HollieES's topic in The Family Room Discussion
There is a really good oil from healthmatters that sorted it for my son. It was in a little spray bottle, didn't make it too oily. Sadly can't remember what it was called but am sure Monica will know. -
I am just settling my son into two mornings a week also. I have been finding the best method for us, is for me to read him a few books when we first get there, then engage him in some play but step back just standing on the sidelines and then just go when he is settled. This does seem to be the most painless way for both of us! Also, second time round have seen enough children settle 2 mins after the parent goes to feel that any tears won't last that long (obviously this is child dependent)... He will get there soon, but it is a bit grim leaving a crying child so hope it smooths out super quickly!

Going rate for cleaners?
melbourne groover replied to Layla's Mum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I suspect we are using the same agency, is it because of vat registration? I was not sure whether to say something or just look around for someone else. I had thought ?10 ph was the going rate for an agency. -
Get the Calamine and Aqueous creme, it is a wetter formula and stops the itching longer - Top tip from previous forum thread a couple of years ago. We found it was much better than the standard Calamine!

Where to get child's passport photo?
melbourne groover replied to sillywoman's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Shot by the Sherriff (in the little mews by Partridges) has always done ours well. Think you ring to book now. In fact, will be ringing myself also as need new passport for both self and 5 yr old! -
Car seat advice please...
melbourne groover replied to melbourne groover's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hmm yes, have seen these but think you may have had to introduce them from a younger age. Re. the ones that work with the harness and without they all either get a Do Not Use on Which or a low safety score. There is no way he could be trusted with just a lap belt. Arrghhh.... Plan to call the Petts wood expert tomorrow, will report back! -
We have had great success with a flashing light toothbrush (bought on Ocado but sure other supermarkets do it). My son is now up for the disco in his mouth (as opposed to me holding him down and brushing as his other option).

Car seat advice please...
melbourne groover replied to melbourne groover's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks so much for all the replies. I have just measured him and he is just under 1m (maybe 98cm, was a little hard to get him to stay still) and around 15 or 16kgs. I will re-evaluate him in his seat and also give the guy at Petts Wood a call. I am really keen for him to stay in the 5 point harness at the moment as am very dubious about putting him just in the across body strap at his age, not sure I wouldn't suddenly find him sitting next to me in the front... My daughter (also tall) went into a Maxi-Cosi Rodi(I think) at just before 3 and was fine but a year older. Sanity Girl - Thanks very much for the offer of trying the seat, I may take you up on it after talking to the shop! -
My just about 2yr old is (I think) growing out of his car seat. He is in a britax 0-4yr old one currently but is on the top hole for the straps and is starting to stick out the top. I need to get him a new seat but am now freaked out by the Which reviews about the multi group car seats (i.e. ones that can be used with a 5 point harness and then moving onto the seatbelt. Has anyone else had this issue with a very tall 2 year old, and what seat did you go for? Thanks very much, Amy

Sadly I think the princess figurines are a disney thing so either brave a trip to the Disney shop (or even better get someone else to) - or order online maybe? I definately think something princessy at that age is the key (they do grow out of it pretty quick). Good luck with whatever you decide on!
-
I used a pack of those Disney princess figurines, I think they are a tenner for 6 or 7 of them. Then you can dole them out as you need to (maybe 1 after the first night then 1 after 2 nights, another after 3 etc) and you don't end up spending a fortune.

What is it really like after having a baby
melbourne groover replied to Fuschia's topic in The Family Room Discussion
On the subject of baby grow's definately get at least 10 but buy cheap - the Sainsburys 5 (or possibly 7) packs are great, wash really well and you can chuck them in the dryer if necessary. Better to have cheap ones so if you decide to abandon one (have been known to occasionally cut child out of truly horrendous explosions rather than negotiate the poo/head situ. Although, obviously, this is less than ideal and probably ethically reprehensible but was weak willed and very very tired...) -
Tell me about dance classes please...
melbourne groover replied to Fuschia's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Fiona also does classes in Gowlett Rd. I think they are great, really lovely, not too formal, the kids adore her. Also not strict on the uniform, which is good from my point of view. Probably not for the future professional Ballet Russe style experience but perfect for our level (casual enthusiast). -
2 Lollipop men on Lordship Lane
melbourne groover replied to jack bauer's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip

Thanks, will check it out.

A while ago there was a thread either about this or it cropped up in it and people recommended a book. My 5 yr old is asking for further details than the general overview I have given up until now and I think I need help! (Obviously I know but explaining in detail without freaking her out may well be another story). Thanks.

How much is the Magic Moments, out of interest. My son is about to start at Oak Tree but I have been a bit alarmed by the price hike since my daughter was there. Is ?28 a morning market rate now? Obviously should ring around but haven't quite got to it....

Not so much what sick person purposely running down school children, but more likely someone on the phone/not looking, just not stopping. Sadly quite common in my experience. -

They are only on duty at school drop off hours, and when they are on duty they are standing by their respective roads. -
Try the co-op pharmacy, they usually have it. It is the one with a pic of a baby on it I think.

I found the Nuk ones great, they have a silicone to and so it was an easy transition but are free flow. We just eventually moved on to normal hard top beakers with no drama at all. I think Lloyds sell them. They take a couple of times to learn to drink slightly differently so the tops don't get sucked in (they have to loosen their mouths off at intervals) but both of mine have mastered no problem pretty quickly.

Best way to lose baby belly??
melbourne groover replied to Lochie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Actually was just talking to Gianni about this today coincidentally (whilst doing my workout) and he is now running a few different options on memberships depending on how often you want to go and at what time of day. Give him a call and he will be able to run through it. He was closing early today I think but will be there tomorrow. -

I am truly loving the vibration training at High Vibes on Melbourne Grove (v convenient for me...) but has changed my shaped noticably, amazingly reduced the vile ammount of cellulite and helped my dodgy knee! It is a really quick work out - about 30 minutes or so and so it is easy to fit in. I would really highly recommend it (in case you hadn't guessed);-)
