  1. I went Saturday with a few friends on Saturday, loved it ! we all live with in a 5 minutes walk of the Park so were so pleased we could go to something like this without trekking across town... it was pretty chilled and well organised, didnt notice anyone working the event being impolite, We knew of a lot of people local who went. Really don't see the problem here, didn't tale up any more space then the Fair that usually visits the common, and a lot of the park was still usable for the Public. One of our group lives right on the Rye and said when the event finished the crowds dispersed quickly and quietly with no trouble. Funny, as this is the first time I've looked at this thread and saw all the negative comments from a few days ago BEFORE it started, and we were talking at the event about how we suspect there were the usual people on the forum probably spreading doom and gloom about it, (usually the same people) How right we were, and how predictable this forum has become... I just laugh at it now as its become a parody of itself 🤣 By the way I am nowhere near a trendy young hipster (that term is SO 2015) and I said goodbye to my 40's a while ago now ... have lived here over 20yrs, so hopefully I am not deemed an alien by now by the ED border police 😉
  2. You can hardly see for all the smoke in Burgess on a sunny day around the dedicated BBQ areas, It was wafting cross the road from the park towards the Tescos on the old Kent road one hot day last year as I went past the car (where probably most of the food and charcoal came from ..keerrrrching!):)
  3. There's a shelter charity shop on Walworth road, and one near the post office site in camberwell (tho this could be the one from Walworth that has moved) Seemed reasonable to me.
  4. Staying on topic of the original posters question ... I think the bishop is showing it, I'm sure they have a sign up saying so Staplemag
  5. Its a pretty grim stretch, went along there for a site visit with work a couple of weeks ago, Like nobody cares about the area or the people who live there and have left it to rot... total opposite to our version :(
  6. I've had some pop up naturally in my font garden awhile ago... so best keep my location secret before its overrun with urban foragers gagging for some wild garlic pesto for their kids packed lunches (not far from the woods so possibly seeded from there) To be honest if you dig up whole plants from somewhere thats not your property, you either feel you're very entitled or are just plain ignorant .... some git pulled up an acer from my front garden a couple of years ago so I'm probably just biased and bitter. (sings let it go whilst rocking back and forth)
  7. Was walking up to the Barclays bank cash point on the corner of Ashbourne last Saturday lunchtime, and a guy looking a bit disheveled pointed to the cash point and asked me in a what sounded like an italian accent to get some cash out for him as he was hungry.... bit bold I thought. The cashpoint was not working so used this as an excuse, pointed it out and walked off...he walked away so I went to the other cashpoint further up and started getting cash out, he noticed, and came back up and stood right behind me pretty much demanding I give him a tenner so he could get some lunch. obviously my patience snapped and I told him to clear off. I do give to people who look like they really need it if I have some change in my pocket, also have bought a couple of sandwiches & water for people begging outside the odd supermarket, If they are scammers then thats a gamble I take personally, just incase they actually do need it.... but the guy I mentioned above was the most aggressive type I've met for a long time :/
  8. As I live just up from this section of road I have to cycle/drive down it most days and its like being on a slalem course, its easy to weave around on the bike (when you can see them properly in daylight that is), not so much in the car, got a shock when I went down the particularly large one, what a bang !... also there's a crumbling road hump throwing out a lot of rubble. *edited to say "bike", not big...Urgghh autocorrect!*
  9. Oh wow I was talking to someone not long ago funnily enough about the old Moxons restaurant in Clapham. as I drove past the old site.. I remember going there in the late 90s, it was only opened 3 days a week and was quite small. I went there a few times back then :)
  10. Waited Two hours this morning to be told that as I received the card yesterday it wouldn't have been processed in time today and that i should come back later or tomorrow... I did suggest they put a notice outside to convey this to people qeueuing still outside, and also put the sign saying its open Christmas eve outside, as it was in the foyer and you wouldn't see it until you've queued for ages, I just got a blank look... I did tell a few people as I walked back along the qeue when I left. I know its a mass of work for the P.O this time of year... but its not as if its unexpected Also I wouldn't have had to pick up today if the royal mail had sent it next day delivery which is what I paid for... 8 days ago.. will be expecting some reimbursment I was lucky in the fact I had a parcel that I received a card for 3 days ago that had been processed, and as an added bonus received a parcel they had received a week ago, which I didn't know existed as They didn't leave a card.
  11. We've a den on a patch of land behind our garden, my cat runs up there as soon as she hears them.... I'm a bit worried she likes to watch 😶
  12. While I can sympathise with losing a business like this, sometimes they just don't survive as trends change, I have lived here now for 20 years, my partner was born here and so were 4 generations of his family (most of who still live here) I think gentrification fails when rents rise so much that only corporate chains can afford the rents, at the moment we are lucky as business premises that close tend to be taken up by independent retailers, a lot of by local people or people from other areas in our SE corner, the danger is when they too cannot afford to rent and you have the bland high street clone stores moving in. 10-12 years ago myself and the other half used to trek into town or clapham to spend on eating out etc, as at the time even tho nice The lane was a bit dull, now we stay pretty local all the time, and our money goes to local businesses. Sometimes you have to adapt to survive, my family are original from stoke Newington, going back to the mid 1800's .. My Grandfather ran a hardware store on the high street right up until he died 9 years ago, for 45 years, he just kept on top on the ever changing community and its needs.
  13. Thanks for suggestion, all sorted now though thankfully :)
  14. All sorted, just as I was leaving for work this morning two guys asked me to move my car, I asked why to which they said they needed to get equipment around the back to resurface a balcony and flat roof at my flat ... I pointed out I was on the ground floor and had neither. So one of the guys phoned his builder mate and said he thought he told him to deliver to (my) address... to which after a few expletives to said mate on the phone, I was sheepishly informed they were meant to be at a property the other end of Underhill.. the address no where near similar to mine apart from road name. Hoping its all been shifted by the time I get home :) Thanks for all the suggestions anyway.
  15. Was out running on the Rye the other day, I am pretty sure it is the people who work at Zippos, by the way they walked out of the caravans and into the ticket office & one into the tent... could be mistaken though 🤔
  16. Thanks for the info, That makes it easier to narrow down.
  17. If is Afghan black my reply would be the same as if it was Liquorice. I am Keen to find out who's placed it here still and find its rightful owners... (also keen as who ever left it here can repair any damage to the path too they might have caused)
  18. Well if its prep for hindmans road I'll be straight on to the council about using our private front garden as a storage area.... if it was liquorice I would have kept quiet and had it for myself.
  19. Came home from work yesterday on Underhill road to find a big stack of what looks like Tar for a driveway on our front path in our front garden ... A/ we don't have a drive and B/ we didn't order it. I have attached a photo of what it looks like, I don't think its been dumped as its been neatly stacked, and its new and still wrapped in plastic. Would appreciate if anyone can help as its a bit tricky manoeuvring past it in the morning :/

Yes, two Italian guys are opening this one (so I was told), the owner of the old Lucas was quite glad to see the back of it when I met him last year and definitely didn't seem keen to repeat the process.
  21. From What I can gather the Duck egg owner said it was being taken over by some Italian guys, I don't think it's the old Luca's, A friend of mine (and old boss) is friends with the old Luca's owner that was on Lordship lane, I met him a year ago and he definitely had no desire to re open then & wanted out as it was not profitable enough (he is also German, not Italian) He could have changed his mind though.
  22. Was Just wondering the other day if there has been an increase in dog mess lying around or is it me being overly observant as I'm getting out more ;), but have witnessed a few Sh*t and runs, mainly by younger people with dogs on the pavement. My personal experience of cat poop after having 4 at one point is its normaly quite hard and they always buried it in my herbaceous borders (they loved the wood chip) or used the litter try never on the lawn, cats have an instinct to bury & hide their presence, as not to put of any "prey" nearby, even burying their pee. Foxes don't give a Sh*T when feeling the urge, and its nasty and runny, they love to do it on your shoes too if you leave them out by the door, as my neighbour found out.
  23. My partner & I own a property and also (with our two neighbours) the freehold of the building our apartments are in. A couple of weeks ago a couple of Southwark council workers came around and asked to be let into the communal hallway shared by the two flats upstairs, just a small hall, no bigger than your average houses hall way to the front door. Our neighbour didn't know what was going on ! and the two guys proceeded to drill holes in the wall and screw in two Southwark fire safety signs into it. As the freeholders and owners of the management company we were not notified or contacted about this, or informed why they decided to do this. I understand councils are now on the back foot after Grenfell and leaving nothing to chance, but not sure if they can go into non council property and just stick massive signs where they want without asking us first (if it was required we would happily comply but would have at least liked to be notified) Ours is not a huge block, a house converted into three flats, the communal hallway has the stairs which would have been used to go to original bedrooms (used to be just one flat upstairs at first) So can't see us being a huge safety risk... Also a big sign is up saying its illegal for anyone to smoke in the hall... can you tell private owners they can't smoke in their own property ? (no one smokes btw, just interested to know what the law is) Anyhoo (very) long story short, I can't find out who I need to contact about this on the southwark website. If anyone else has had this happen, or know if this is a new policy, I'd be interested to know
