  1. No water here either yet on Underhill, near Belvoir .... though sounds promising if others supplies are coming back on

  3. We have a tall stone bird pedestal we bought at croxted road garden centre years ago. As it's high the birds see our cats well before they get close enough to do any damage..the wood pigeons seem to enjoy teasing them. Luckily none of our three cats are killers, just lazy watchers
  4. same here on Underhill, thanks for info, knew i would find the answer on here :)
  5. I have been cycling for over 15 yrs in London, I wear a mask which I only pull over my mouth when in heavy traffic, Not had any health probs with chest, have also just been told after hospital check up (have regular checks due to blood cancer 5 years ago) that My heart and lungs are in top condition. But this maybe due to fact I was aware of risks and took precautions. I avoid congested roads on my ride to kentish town from forest hill rd by going via Peckham rye, surrey canal, then up through road by aylesbury estate. I use a very good route around the elephant that takes me out by southwark university. only congested rd's I use are southwark bridge rd,and Farringdon, (I use the mask here when it's busy) Then another quiet route takes me around kings cross and out by the side of St Pancras station, where I then go on to use college rd in camden with it's brilliant segregated cycling path using big planters.

    Gluten

My stepdad was Diagnosed a few years ago as Gluten intolerant, it was affecting his Liver function. He gets a lot of his gluten free foods on prescription. Also as a pastry chef I have noticed a huge rise in the number of gluten free requests I get. It is much easier then you think to home bake gluten free, the doves farm range is excellent. Last year when I was on holiday in Italy with a gluten intolerant friend, I was surprised by how much more there was on offer there in regards to gluten free foods...It was pretty normal to find that most hotels we stayed at had a special table with foods on at breakfast and lunch with gluten and dairy free foods. A friend we stayed with out there said it was a growing problem, especially with young people. all restaurants we went to had gluten free pasta and bread on offer

    Hipsters

I just find it amusing that people can get still so narked by how some people dress and choose to live their lives in a certain style, that does no harm to anyone, get over it, good grief ... Ps I have no beard or any form of headwear, but would like some DM's as I loved wearing them in the 80's, but fear I'm a tad too over hill for them now ;)
  8. Felt a bit sad going In the Ed Deli today, we've used it a lot over the years & always look forward to the easter display, none this year apart from a few eggs & stock run down, with lots of empty shelves. The guy served us said it will probably shut in a a month, you could see he was pretty cut up about it & said it was out of his hands. I'll be sad to see it it go, It was one of the first shops to draw me to the lane when I first moved around here 11 years ago.
  9. Ok ..Good, as annoying as they are when you have a car as low as mine,They are great at stopping people putting their foot on the gas as they come down from the roundabout by the cemetery as they go towards Belvoir down the hill...so I don't have to play a game of chance getting out of my car, or pulling out. Also we have a lot of kids playing around here, so that reduces a risk to them too.
  10. Anyone know what they are doing ? Came home friday evening to find "no Parking 11-03-14" sprayed several times up this section of road, with 4 arrows pointing to either side of the road. Tried to search on southwark website and it just came up as "proposed works" and no other info. Just curious to know whats happening right on my doorstep. Not had any leaflets about it ( not sure if they actually have to btw ) more speed control ?...people don't arf like to put their foot down going down the hill from Langton rise I've noticed.
  11. Oh Louisa ... Would you like chips with your pizza ? Or are you fine with that large one on your shoulder ;)
  12. I can only go from personal experience of when diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma 5 yrs ago, was started on chemo imediatly ....and here I am clear 5 yrs on, and still getting great aftercare, its so big there though that I'm sure there are cases where people experiences are not so great, as with most hospitals due to overwhelming demand. I found the staff at kings do a great job under the circumstances.
  13. I had a near miss with a car that pulled out suddenly from the station from behind the car...it's hard to see oncoming traffic as you pull out, I was slowing down anyway as I approached as he pulled out...he didn't see me until last minute, luckily i could see him first and was able to brake...someones going to have a prang soon though.
  14. You're right, it was....Maybe a new fitness craze ? stick some people in a room with lots of furniture, chuck in a rat, shut the door and tell them they can't come out until it's caught *runs to trade mark office* RATZERCISE :)
  15. One our cats decided to bring one that seemed young but nearly cult size into to our flat and dropped it unharmed in our bedroom, cue 4 hrs of chasing it around..it decided to wedge itself between the radiator and wall ...managed to get it out by poking it with a stick and chucking a towel over it, god the buggers can screech ! quite an un nerving evening
  16. Plenty at Camberwell Old cemetery if you want to rat-watch, I often see them running along then climbing the fence along Langton rise on my way to work in the morning...Probably why the foxes are leaving the bins alone more and are still looking healthy and plump ;)
  17. If you live in a flat it can become a real issue as you suddenly end up with a pile discarded as neighbours sell and new owners don't take responsibility for them... also the nailing of sign posts to walls is a pain, I can't recollect how many times I have had to ask estate agents not to nail them in ...one property I lived in had part of a wall collapse after being weakened by numerous signs being nailed in over the years weakening the brickwork. I Found the best way was to contact agents to ask them to remove after properties are sold, if it hasn't happened, the usual threat to dump it outside or in their shop does the trick in most cases.
  18. I moved here from Tulse hill 12 years ago...now that was rough...it was practically like moving to Cranford in my eyes ;) My partner was born and bread here...he said it was never rough ...just a bit dull but pleasant.
  19. Peckham rye has become the bane of my commute, practically since the clocks went back my train has been 10-14 mins late 90% of the time, then when it gets to Farringdon the driver announces it going fast to St Albans and not stopping at all stations after St Pancras, so I have to get off and change. Once I was wearing My Headphones and missed this and ended up on an impromptu trip to St Albans, So don't wear them anymore.....just incase *sigh
  20. I can only report what I saw tbh, maybe people have bucked their ideas up in Rome since that was written, who knows :)
  21. My Partners stuck on a train just outside London bridge right now, been stuck there nearly two hours so far no one can get off, they have been told there's been a fire somewhere thats affected the power supply. he has no idea when it's going to get moving :(
  22. Just back from a weekend in Rome, And was thinking "god I'm glad I don't cycle here" Then noticed the array of sectioned off cycle lanes, and shared cycle pavement/spaces, where pedestrians and cyclists were quite polite to each other, no one seemed to be bothered about the shared space and each gave way accordingly. also most traffic lights had cycle lights too. And it appeared that at crossings with lights, the rule seemed to be cars and bikes could go if there were no pedestrians crossing, obviously they all had to slow to approach. I thought it was just that neither could be bothered to stop, but our friend who has lived there 18yrs said it was how its worked for years. After hearing about aggressive roman driving i was quite suprised :)
  23. Some good points about headphones...from people who wear them of course. I am speaking from my own experience coming across cyclists wearing headphones....one case of one not hearing my shouting and bell ringing as they pulled out of a junction without noticing me feet away on my bike, causing me to break suddenly and my back wheel to swerve outward ....of course they could've been choosing to ignore me. as a partially deaf cyclists ( my left ear many) I tend to concentrate more on listening, I just think if I had headphones on It would distract from my concentration...it does when I'm walking as a recent lampost would agree :) And Ps I do notice a lot of good cyclist btw too, and see more stopping at lights then I do going through them, just the ones who don't who stand out.
