  1. I normally try to ignore the comments left about local businesses on here, and I never really take much notice of opinions, as I like to go and see for myself and form my own...you know, in the old days before the T'internet & when you couldn't be bothered to check newspaper food columns for reviews *ages self* But I have worked in the food industry for nearly 30 yrs and know how hard is it is start up a new business today... I definitely wouldn't be able to afford the time and money, and admire those that put themselves out there and have a go. The fact is as I stated, a lot of time and care has been put in by people to build this place as I have watched it grow over the past months on my commute, and see a handful of people transform a tatty shop into something looking quite smart. The fact that I googled "Ash forest hill' and got led straight to this post with sarcastic comments on it before it's even opened made me sigh and want to wish them well.
  2. What a lovely welcome to a new business opening up in the area from the forum *rolls eyes in a not surprised face* I have seen the people opening up here spend ages doing up the old fish and chip shop this is replacing over the past few months as I passed going to and from work. They have obvs spent a lot of time and money on it & it certainly doesn't look like your run of the mill kebab shop, quite smart in fact, love the sign. I very rarely eat kebabs, but I am sure they will have other things on offer, and I wish them well & every success and welcome them to forest hill rd rather then leave a sarky comment aimed at them like some, (who may not have even seen the shop)
  3. We reached a point this year when we looked at our apartment we have lived in for 8 years and had it valued ( for a ridiculously high amount) And had a ponder about wether to sell up and get a house somewhere cheaper (we could never afford a house here, even with the equity from our home.) After a while we realised that we have such friendly neighbours, and love using Lordship lane where we regularly bump into people we know, that we thought why should we move to somewhere where we might not have any of those things just for the sake of an extra room and some stairs. So have decided to stay put. Everywhere I have lived in London in the past 18 years has had a mix of nice and not so nice people, I suppose I have been fortunate to meet more of the former.
  4. Just seen this thread, I saw him as I left for work on Thursday Morning, he was on Underhill just passed the junction with Langton rise, I stopped and watched him walking down the road, fag hanging out of mouth with his trolly and ruck sack..though it was strange, so watched as he walked down road to see if he went through any blue recycling bins or skips, but didn't notice. I think he might be looking for scrap people have left out, lots of people have been leaving stuff out (chairs, toys, books, hardware) It all seems to go quite quickly. I didn't know he had a van, will keep an eye out for him again.
  5. Haha Louisa there you go again with your inverted snobby generalisations, why so bitter ?
  6. According to the Se23 forum it appears it is closing, but staff who work there seem unaware, there doesn't seem any evidence of a cinema opening there though (planning etc) but would be great for the area if true *edited as I was previously looking at post about this from 2008 on the se23 forum and didn't realise*
  7. Water back on here on under hill, slow trickle, now back to full strength ! :) *performs emergency toilet flush*
  8. No water here either yet on Underhill, near Belvoir .... though sounds promising if others supplies are coming back on

  10. We have a tall stone bird pedestal we bought at croxted road garden centre years ago. As it's high the birds see our cats well before they get close enough to do any damage..the wood pigeons seem to enjoy teasing them. Luckily none of our three cats are killers, just lazy watchers
  11. same here on Underhill, thanks for info, knew i would find the answer on here :)
  12. I have been cycling for over 15 yrs in London, I wear a mask which I only pull over my mouth when in heavy traffic, Not had any health probs with chest, have also just been told after hospital check up (have regular checks due to blood cancer 5 years ago) that My heart and lungs are in top condition. But this maybe due to fact I was aware of risks and took precautions. I avoid congested roads on my ride to kentish town from forest hill rd by going via Peckham rye, surrey canal, then up through road by aylesbury estate. I use a very good route around the elephant that takes me out by southwark university. only congested rd's I use are southwark bridge rd,and Farringdon, (I use the mask here when it's busy) Then another quiet route takes me around kings cross and out by the side of St Pancras station, where I then go on to use college rd in camden with it's brilliant segregated cycling path using big planters.

    Gluten

My stepdad was Diagnosed a few years ago as Gluten intolerant, it was affecting his Liver function. He gets a lot of his gluten free foods on prescription. Also as a pastry chef I have noticed a huge rise in the number of gluten free requests I get. It is much easier then you think to home bake gluten free, the doves farm range is excellent. Last year when I was on holiday in Italy with a gluten intolerant friend, I was surprised by how much more there was on offer there in regards to gluten free foods...It was pretty normal to find that most hotels we stayed at had a special table with foods on at breakfast and lunch with gluten and dairy free foods. A friend we stayed with out there said it was a growing problem, especially with young people. all restaurants we went to had gluten free pasta and bread on offer

    Hipsters

I just find it amusing that people can get still so narked by how some people dress and choose to live their lives in a certain style, that does no harm to anyone, get over it, good grief ... Ps I have no beard or any form of headwear, but would like some DM's as I loved wearing them in the 80's, but fear I'm a tad too over hill for them now ;)
  15. Felt a bit sad going In the Ed Deli today, we've used it a lot over the years & always look forward to the easter display, none this year apart from a few eggs & stock run down, with lots of empty shelves. The guy served us said it will probably shut in a a month, you could see he was pretty cut up about it & said it was out of his hands. I'll be sad to see it it go, It was one of the first shops to draw me to the lane when I first moved around here 11 years ago.
  16. Ok ..Good, as annoying as they are when you have a car as low as mine,They are great at stopping people putting their foot on the gas as they come down from the roundabout by the cemetery as they go towards Belvoir down the hill...so I don't have to play a game of chance getting out of my car, or pulling out. Also we have a lot of kids playing around here, so that reduces a risk to them too.
  17. Anyone know what they are doing ? Came home friday evening to find "no Parking 11-03-14" sprayed several times up this section of road, with 4 arrows pointing to either side of the road. Tried to search on southwark website and it just came up as "proposed works" and no other info. Just curious to know whats happening right on my doorstep. Not had any leaflets about it ( not sure if they actually have to btw ) more speed control ?...people don't arf like to put their foot down going down the hill from Langton rise I've noticed.
  18. Oh Louisa ... Would you like chips with your pizza ? Or are you fine with that large one on your shoulder ;)
  19. I can only go from personal experience of when diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma 5 yrs ago, was started on chemo imediatly ....and here I am clear 5 yrs on, and still getting great aftercare, its so big there though that I'm sure there are cases where people experiences are not so great, as with most hospitals due to overwhelming demand. I found the staff at kings do a great job under the circumstances.
  20. I had a near miss with a car that pulled out suddenly from the station from behind the car...it's hard to see oncoming traffic as you pull out, I was slowing down anyway as I approached as he pulled out...he didn't see me until last minute, luckily i could see him first and was able to brake...someones going to have a prang soon though.
  21. You're right, it was....Maybe a new fitness craze ? stick some people in a room with lots of furniture, chuck in a rat, shut the door and tell them they can't come out until it's caught *runs to trade mark office* RATZERCISE :)
  22. One our cats decided to bring one that seemed young but nearly cult size into to our flat and dropped it unharmed in our bedroom, cue 4 hrs of chasing it around..it decided to wedge itself between the radiator and wall ...managed to get it out by poking it with a stick and chucking a towel over it, god the buggers can screech ! quite an un nerving evening
  23. Plenty at Camberwell Old cemetery if you want to rat-watch, I often see them running along then climbing the fence along Langton rise on my way to work in the morning...Probably why the foxes are leaving the bins alone more and are still looking healthy and plump ;)
