The RSPCA & most vets advise cats are kept in at night before we go to bed, they are more likely to wander or get injured by fighting (fox attacks can happen though rarely) or being hit by a car. We have four cats..two were strays we took in...well they decided to move in, one was pregnant, we kept two of the kittens who are now 5yrs old. We always get them in at night, A/ because of the higher risk of injury B/ because one of them is a bit of a hunter (the other three can't be arsed) So as well as avoiding more chance of a hefty vets bill or losing one, we are also safe guarding wildlife and reducing the chance of stepping on a pile of small furry bodies in the morning outside the bedroom door. Neutering is the best option, makes them lazy and less likely to wander as killaqueen says. Ours are pretty well trained and tend to come in at night, in the winter you can't shove them out the cat flap. As for fouling, well they use the litter tray ( two are quite old and now tend to prefer our patio, so dustpan and brush always on standby ) Neighbors on both sides have cats so there's no knowing who's poops belongs to who to be honest. I can't understand people who get cats and shove them out all of the time, they can be trained, especially from kittens.

I grew up around berko and remember how the cinema shut through lack of use when video rental killed off many a local cinema and was earmarked for flats. It took a few years but just shows what can be achieved when a community campaign & a new generation of Cinema goers who never knew the heyday of the Big screen, just the mundane popping down to the local video store for the latest release spring into action. I think there is a demand for this type of cinema again as people get bored of watching films online or through satellite or cable, or visiting noisy nacho filled multiplexes. Yes people did stop visiting local cinemas, but I think there is a new generation who want to experience the social experience of small independent cinema & would support it. I think the obvious choice would be the old forest hill cinema, but I doubt very much if wetherspoons would relinquish this cash cow anytime soon ;)

30 min walk to Peckham eye station this morning was quite pleasant ( just missed rain) no sign of 363 or 63, tho did see a 343 in Peckham going towards the rye. Got to work in north London, lots of buses here though.
-
From what I can gather the 12 63 363 are run by go ahead & the 176 Arriva two of the 3 companies that took out an injunction, Cant say wether they will be running or not though..TFL website is very vague :/ Guess best option is to check in the morning.

is it illegal to save parking spaces?
spark67 replied to whatever's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Basically it is WRONG & very selfish to leave bins outside to reserve a space, I live in a road where sometimes I have to park away from my property & so do my neighbors theirs, but I accept the fact thats life in London. I wouldn't dream of putting bins out to reserve a space, I would be quite frankly embarrassed & cringe at what fellow neighbors would think of me. If you live on a public road you have absolutely no more right then anyone else to your own private space. You can either apply to build a drive or move to a property with private parking. I think its pretty arrogant to think you have more rights then others wether you have kids or not. I can see why people with young children are frustrated but at the end of the day if you live on a public street why should you be have special treatment then anyone else...I bet their are other people on Streetgirl's road who have children who don't behave the same way, ( i'd be suprised in ED if there isn't ) also if someone is running a garage repair service on your street, or selling cars, then that is illegal and you can report them by the way. *has a cup of tea and a sit down* -
You're right Gidget they don't,She was covered for all her blood tests to check for other illnesses before the operation which showed up a slight kidney problem and treatment she will have to have because of that.
-
our 14yr old cat had to have several teeth out there this week, couldn't have been happier with the service, we wanted a second opinion after not being entirely happy with our regular vet...it all seemed a bit rushed. The new vets wouldn't operate until all blood tests came back so they could see she was fit enough to go through it, our old vets wanted to do the op straight away They spent time talking us through her operation, even telling us about the gas they use (they use a really safe one apparently which is more expensive but didn't pass on the cost to us ) She had the op and recovered really quickly eating straight away. The practice even helped filling out the forms for the insurance. The price was about the same as our old vets quoted, but we felt we got a long detailed consultation.

Who to follow on Twitter in E. Dulwich?
spark67 replied to Jakido's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks mid life for the mention I follow most of those you mention,(including you obviously) love the fact that ED & local areas has a strong twitter representation :) My partner @terryronald is on here & is very entertaining. He has a long career in music as a writer singer & producer, & also in publishing (he co wrote Dannii minogues biography & has helped other celebs) & also has his own novel out "becoming nancy" set in ED in the late 70's. Me I'm @M_HammertonChef ..basically tweeting about my life as a pastry chef at Spring studios & other nonsense. I've made some great new friends locally via twitter & it good for finding local bloggers & sharing views..especially for foodies like me :) -
Langton rise! Mugging, drug deals and fly tipping .....
spark67 replied to Barred's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sorry to here about the mugging thats awful and seems to be happening all over the place at the moment. I live right by that road & walk up it most days to catch the bus to work on woodvale. I haven't seen much fly tipping over the 6yrs i've lived here...also in my experience most of the cars I have seen parked up with engines running seem to be mini cab drivers killing time before the next fare ( see most of them with TFL cab stickers in window ) -
Fortnightly blue bin collection not enough?
spark67 replied to Mrs TP's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We have 1 blue bin for a building that contains 3 flats, the overflow has been going into the remaining old blue boxes. But today they took away our old boxes so the one bin is going to be nearly nowhere near enough now ! Had originally requested an extra blue bin and suggested they take one of the 3 green ones as now the food waste goes in the brown we can do without one, didn't get a response -
We have a great hospital in Kings.....
spark67 replied to DJKillaQueen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Kings saved my life,h after 5 months of chemo was back at work within 2 months and two years later still in remission with fantastic aftercare and monitoring. My step dad was recently diagnosed with a serious blood disorder that can lead to leukemia he has to be given platelets every two weeks. He was treated at the UCLH they said a bone marrow might offer a cure but they couldn't offer him one because of his age and gave him around 5yrs with his condition. He had a 2nd opinion at kings...and with in 4 weeks as been offered a transplant to take place in september, they have been nothing but positive. -
Young police officer popped around today, he said there was a lot of people affected...definitely not going through the insurance, i just cant afford the hikes in premiums, i have claimed 3 times so far and every time my car was parked outside my front door & i wasn't any where near it. Once when someone hit as it as they drove past and drove off whilst it was parked, then the break in and now this..sheesh..not sure if its worth having it now its just an old banger !

Good grief..i just don't understand people who do things too deliberately cause people they don't know or have never even met anguish for no reason by mindlessly damaging their property, their not gaining anything from it

Sorry to put up another crime post :/ But last night ( jan 30th) someone decided to go down the street I live and vandalise my car and my neighbours by scratching the word "vex" into the paint work on the bonnet in quite large letters. It happened on Underhill road near the cemetery, and I believe we were not the only ones. With this and my car being broken into 3 weeks ago I can already hear my Insurance premiums crashing through the roof skywards. The reason I am posting is that the police want to know if anyone else was affected along this road.

Barclays - card skimmed in corner machine!
spark67 replied to mr garcia's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I was the one that wrote the last post when this happened to my partner not long ago...cant believe its happened at the very same cashpoint again !! -
Had my car Broken into on the same date, went outside on the morning of the 8th and the small vent window at the back of my 11 year old astra was smashed, the emptied the glove compartment ( chucking stuff all over the place and ripping a few pages out of the AZ for some reason) & they took my stereo which wasn't much being an old car, but it was one of those ones where the front comes off, but they took it anyway. I think they just saw my car & saw it as an easy target, i never leave anything out on show and it was parked by the kerb the end of my path practically under the bedroom window of our flat, the only time i have cursed myself for being a heavy sleeper :/

It was the cashpoint on the corner of the bank by Ashbourne, the bank did say the best way to defeat this sort of device is to shield your pin number from above with your hand. It also turned a few days later that they tried to use it in a tescos and for a bit of online shopping. Hope they enjoyed their free ?600 pound spree before going back to their miserable lives.
-
Last night (wednesday) my partner and i were coming home from town in black cab and stopped at the Barclays bank on Lordship lane to get cash for the cab. My partner used his card, but it appeared to get stuck and there was a clicking noise. then the machine flashed an out of order sign and his card wasn't returned. He phoned the bank this morning and they told him ?600 was taken from his account just after the time we left the machine. they said by what he described that it appeared some one had used something called a "Lebanese Loop". After you have entered your pin the machine will tell you your cash is being counted but no money comes out, then you find your card appears stuck and wont come out, the loop traps your card, the clicking noise is a classic sign. the final insult is that a small camera records the pin. The bank said someone would have been watching until we went then removed the device and used the card then. My partner banks with Santander & they said it seems quite common with Barclays cashpoints for some reason. luckily the bank refunded his money..its annoying to think that some *@*$ out there got away with ?600 scott free !

I also received this letter from kings, and they saved my life last year, and i still get excellent care. i recently raised over ?1000 for the same charity whilst doing the london to Brighton bike ride this year, i contacted them to see if they would publicize it on their website with a link to the just giving page as they have done with others but nothing appeared and to this day had no acknowledgment of the fact they received the money, not looking for thanks but would be nice to have a letter i could post online to thank those who donated. as a former cancer patient the idea did creep into my head that i was targeted with this letter as a former patient thinking i might feel obliged to donate ( getting cynical in my old age) but thankfully that doesn't seem the case going by other posts

Lack of sleep in ED (fox noises again)
spark67 replied to Miss P's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I wss sitting in my garden last night when what i thought wss a large cat came belting passed being pursued by my cat at speed, it was then i noticed it was a fox she was chasing, it stopped when it saw me turned to face my cat who promptly smacked it around its foxy chops with her paw, it yelped and fled. Thinking i could hire her out as some sort of fox "bouncer" -
It would be nice if people would stick to 30mph down our road let alone the 20mph limit. The part of Underhill road from the cemetery down to Melford road is like some unofficial race track, especially for the guy who i see most mornings driving a white van with the word "Enterprise" in red on the side, he screeches around the roundabout from langton rise, and really shoves his foot down on underhill road, you can hear a "whump" at every speed bump. i have had my car hit already by some women while it was parked outside my flat, her excuse was "well it was the rush hour" (WTF!)

on the 22december i had a card delivered through my door saying post had arrived for me that was 8p underpaid, and i had to collect and pay the excess 8p, plus a ?1.00 handling charge !!, i thought maybe someone had sent me a large envelope and not paid the extra by mistake, ( as my old dad usually does) but no it was within the size for small mail, it was because the card had a cut out xmas stocking on it making it 1mm to thick!!, so i had to pay ?1.08 to get it, how they work out that it costs ?1 to handle it, it was all screwed up and muddy looked like it had been handled by an angry rugby team !!
