Burro e Salvia is coming to East Dulwich
spark67 replied to burroesalvalnd's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
you started going off topic by brining class into it with your usual "Gaurdianista" "Middle class leftie" "food snob" Rubbish...which you have associate with this establishment with before it's even opened in your usual sweeping generalisation way again. Don't worry I'll leave you to it now as I get on with my apparently food snobby middle class life it appears, seeing I have been to one or two of the places you seem to despise. *goes off to order a curry* -

your'e a fine one to lecture people on "sneering" & looking down at what other people eat Louisa...no one here has sneered at anyone for eating fried chicken ..the only one bringing class into this and sneering is you. Is someone wants to spend their hard earned cash in a more expensive restaurant ..thats fine...If someone wants to enjoy a kebab on a friday night or a bucket of chicken, fine ( I can do either no problem )...doesn't make either of those people a horrible person, As you seem to be saying about people who might go into the the new italian might be according to you -
Underhill becomes a rat run from the roundabout on the Langton rise junction, in the morning and afternoon rush hours, despite the humps. As soon as vehicles turn off the roundabout they seem to feel they have to put their foot to the pedal as there is a hill either side, especially vans, thankfully the p13 going up and down can slow them down sometimes. Had my niece and nephew down recently, and wouldn't let them cross without holding on to me, you can hear the cars revving up as they come around the roundabout The zebra crossing thing is also bad... It's ingrained in me to stop in my car or bike when approaching, maybe because of my age, I don't know. Nearly had a nasty incident on the crossing near the rye pub, I slowed to a stop on my bike & lady crossing went to go, almost to be hit by a car coming up behind me who put his foot down to try and beat her crossing. scared the life out of both of us. I tend to spend my time fist waving like victor Meldrew at bikes and cars that whizz past me at crossings when I stop.

very much looking forward to trying it out I have to say...I've lived around here since the late 90s, and I have found myself arranging to do things more locally then I used to, rather than in town, e.g. my birthday this weekend, meeting friends in my local pub saturday night & having sunday lunch with visiting family on the lane...nice to have one more place to go to add to the list (tho the only paper I've read recently is the odd metro on my rare rail commute, so will I be allowed in not having purchased a Guardian ?) Louisa you are the only one banging on about how "guardian readers" want to oppress the lane, no one is saying you have to love a new restaurant, if it's not your preference thats great, don't go, I wouldn't if it wasn't my thing..rather than being personal & derogative about people who might go because of the class bracket you think they are in. Having a different opinion is fine, being insulting isn't & IS trolling. -

So all people who eat in decent italian restaurants are guardian reading lefties ?? with too much money to spend ? ... Who knew Louisa knew more about me than I do! Thanks for letting me know, I wouldn't have figured it out otherwise thanks to that piece of sweeping & as usual, predictable generalisation. phew ! btw...I worked in a bakery on the kings rd a couple of years ago, believe me the lane has a long way to go to get chelseafied ....and isn't filled with lefties I assure you -
BT broadband - anyone else suffering poor performance?
spark67 replied to Sporthuntor's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Same here, trying to use netflix & it keeps freezing, been happening since sunday. Normal usage a bit poor too. -
If you don't like pizza, fair enough don't go, if you do fill yer boots, quite simple, What I don't is get people making snarky comments about what other people might want to spend their own money on...also high streets are busy, great to see ours getting lively, it's not as if they've opened on a quiet residential rd. ps the "bit of bread with topping' or "cheese on toast" pizza analogies are getting old and boring now ;)

Fireworks going off in Bellenden/Oglander/Copleston area
spark67 replied to Mustard's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks first mate, yes I agree about letting him hide, we put his basket under the bed, and he went there for awhile, until they started going off that side of our flat, then he crawled into our living room and climbed on my lap and curled into a really tight ball and stayed there for a long time. (he never sits on our laps normally, likes to sit by our feet on the floor) I don't know if it's a male thing, but the other two we have, both girls, didn't give two hoots about the noise. We shut all curtains and blinds as well, our flats turned into a fortress at this time of year. Fellway was the recommendation we got from two vets, I did what it said on instructions and plugged it in the week before, even got the room spray, maybe it should just say on the pack that it's for low level stress, at it does seem to give the impression it's meant to be more potent then it actually is. I think we will push for the valium maybe next year as mentioned by Mustard, for us... and the cat ;) -

We have the same problem with one of our cats, he's terrified, crawls around on his stomach, ending up wedging himself under the sofa or under the bed, more stress for us as he has had bladder crystals which are exasperated by stress. I don't have a beef with firework night, loved it as a kid. But because it fell slap bang in-between two weekends on the wednesday it feels like it's been non stop since last saturday all through to this weekend, could understand this saturday night, but last night on a 2nd consecutive sunday night was the last straw. Ps don't waste your money on the fellway cat stress reducing products, we bought two plug-ins costing nearly ?70.... no effect what so ever ! -
It's near where I live on Underhill, there's a cluster of houses around us who go for it every year, like having my own display on the doorstep :) ... Though it took ages for my pussy to calm down after a solid couple of hours of banging.

Trains from East Dulwich (seem to be terrible)
spark67 replied to Gardenia's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
When I worked at London bridge I caught the 40 on all the days I didn't cycle for 5 years, no problems, and you always get a seat if you catch it at the plough as it's its 1st stop :) -
Cycling and the ED street grid
spark67 replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've been cycling for about 15 years now to and from work, I have noticed a drop in aggressive driving I have to say, the ones I have encountered seem to be those people who seem to have a default setting of aggression.... like the black cab driver who pulled out of a junction I was going across, causing me to swerve into middle of the road, calling me a *f@cking cyclist* when I had right of way ( I just shouted "uber" back) And yes I also see the odd bad cyclist and kamikaze pedestrian who should know better too, But a bad driver is the one who is going to cause most damage to someone (A wayward cyclist or pedestrian crossing without taking much notice will normally come off worse in a car collision) I tend to have got awareness through experience, I now avoid hot spots and use cycle routes that take me around congested areas and though parks, may add 5 minutes to a journey, but I feel safer. -
I saw that today for the 1st time too ...it seems to be also selling vinyl records as well as organic food.

Went to that nursery a couple of years ago & it is rather nice, been and done a few errands around the rest of the area and not to keen, Have a friend who had to move out of the area a couple of years ago who was attacked in their home, so thats put me off a bit tbh. Hope it is improving though for people that live their.

...fat you say ?! *orders bigger pitchforks, & XXL stocks*
-
Haha, this post is hilarious ! I might see if I can start a business selling kits with Pitchforks, paraffin and matches, possibly sets of stocks....I'd make a killing from the forum :) Ps I live on Underhill, we are constantly plagued by hand-holders, it's a rat run of them, they hold meets late at night and walk up and down being outrageously obstructive after midnight. We have reported it to the police, but nothings happened, it's like we've been abandoned !

I Am Not a fan, But most of the people I know who have done it are certainly not vain and were just joining in with something they thought was fun, usually with their kids, all donated to charity, normally one of their choice, most to Macmillan or other charity involved with cancer because of myself being a victim once or they had a member of their family who has. Anything that jolts people into giving what they can to charity is a good thing IMO. My young niece and nephew wanted to do it, aged 6 & 8, and gave some of their pocket money to a local charity their school has been collecting for, so a good thing I feel. Only thing I don't like is when people deride people who refuse to do it after being nominated, this is emotional blackmail, charity should be a choice, and no one should feel compelled too if they can't afford it, or don't want too. I was nominated by my niece and nephew, I politely declined, but to reward them for giving to a charity I have offered to donate some on their behalf to their schools one, which they were chuffed about...i've just ignored the other nominations i've had.

Thanks to the sh*te bag (or bags) who nicked two rear wheel covers of our little fiat 500 last night...hope a big fat bag of smelly karma plunges on you very soon ! Has there been anyone else who's had this problem ? & is there anything you can get to secure them on once I get the replacements ? I know you can get plastic loops, but they look like they can be cut easily. We lease our car and when I spoke to the maintenance people they said they've had a few reports of this happening to their cars over the last month. So if anyone is offered fiat hubcaps under the table at their local you know where they probably came from ;)

Ash kebabs takeaway opening 11th august 102 forest hill rd se220rs
spark67 replied to brassco3866's topic in The Lounge
I normally try to ignore the comments left about local businesses on here, and I never really take much notice of opinions, as I like to go and see for myself and form my own...you know, in the old days before the T'internet & when you couldn't be bothered to check newspaper food columns for reviews *ages self* But I have worked in the food industry for nearly 30 yrs and know how hard is it is start up a new business today... I definitely wouldn't be able to afford the time and money, and admire those that put themselves out there and have a go. The fact is as I stated, a lot of time and care has been put in by people to build this place as I have watched it grow over the past months on my commute, and see a handful of people transform a tatty shop into something looking quite smart. The fact that I googled "Ash forest hill' and got led straight to this post with sarcastic comments on it before it's even opened made me sigh and want to wish them well. -

What a lovely welcome to a new business opening up in the area from the forum *rolls eyes in a not surprised face* I have seen the people opening up here spend ages doing up the old fish and chip shop this is replacing over the past few months as I passed going to and from work. They have obvs spent a lot of time and money on it & it certainly doesn't look like your run of the mill kebab shop, quite smart in fact, love the sign. I very rarely eat kebabs, but I am sure they will have other things on offer, and I wish them well & every success and welcome them to forest hill rd rather then leave a sarky comment aimed at them like some, (who may not have even seen the shop) -
Sadness at changing atmosphere of East Dulwich
spark67 replied to vanstone's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We reached a point this year when we looked at our apartment we have lived in for 8 years and had it valued ( for a ridiculously high amount) And had a ponder about wether to sell up and get a house somewhere cheaper (we could never afford a house here, even with the equity from our home.) After a while we realised that we have such friendly neighbours, and love using Lordship lane where we regularly bump into people we know, that we thought why should we move to somewhere where we might not have any of those things just for the sake of an extra room and some stairs. So have decided to stay put. Everywhere I have lived in London in the past 18 years has had a mix of nice and not so nice people, I suppose I have been fortunate to meet more of the former. -
Morning Mystery Man on Langton Rise
spark67 replied to stephanieod15's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Just seen this thread, I saw him as I left for work on Thursday Morning, he was on Underhill just passed the junction with Langton rise, I stopped and watched him walking down the road, fag hanging out of mouth with his trolly and ruck sack..though it was strange, so watched as he walked down road to see if he went through any blue recycling bins or skips, but didn't notice. I think he might be looking for scrap people have left out, lots of people have been leaving stuff out (chairs, toys, books, hardware) It all seems to go quite quickly. I didn't know he had a van, will keep an eye out for him again. -
Haha Louisa there you go again with your inverted snobby generalisations, why so bitter ?
-
According to the Se23 forum it appears it is closing, but staff who work there seem unaware, there doesn't seem any evidence of a cinema opening there though (planning etc) but would be great for the area if true *edited as I was previously looking at post about this from 2008 on the se23 forum and didn't realise*
