  1. More then 10 minutes this lunch time, was stuck on East Dulwich road for ages right up by the junction with crystal palace road, then more traffic queing right past barry road coming down forest hill road, seems the road going down towards rye lane is closed today. there seemed to be a guy manually operating the lights form a box on a trailer by the time I eventually got to them, at one point he missed letting the traffic I was in going through, most frustrating. Very rammed round that part of the rye so would avoid today.
  2. I live right by where the works are being carried out There were notices on the front gates last year and on the gates on Langton rise/woodvale with the names of the graves which were to be covered & asking anyone who was related or knows of the families involved to contact the council. I am assuming (hoping) this is because they had tried all other channels and were making sure the graves still didn't have any visitors still. I walked passed the Area a lot as i walk through sometimes to get to forest hill road, I didn't notice many graves in that area, and the few I did see looked very old and neglected. I thought it was sad they had to destroy some of the trees though, clearing something living for the dead ;/ I think this is common practice though, My grandparents graves in hertfordshire from the 1990's have a 50 yr "Expiry date" I think a clause in the contract says that if no relatives come forward at that time to renew them they will be reused.
  3. How Horrible, only a couple of weeks ago one of Our neighbours averted another neighbours house being broken into by tackling two youths behaving suspiciously and calling police, police caught the look out, but let him off as he "hadn't committed an offense" even though their was a witness. doesn't sound like the same people though as theses guys didn't try and smash anything were & being tentative. this lot sound right aggressive :/ We Live on the same end of Underhill near Melford road.
  4. I had a look at the sign and noticed t said it reopens at 5am...well someone should tell the drivers as the 63 went passed a load of other people after 7am again yesterday morning, really frustrating for them.
  5. I got on the 63 by the forest hill Tavern yesterday morning at 7.20 am, And it sailed past a lot of people with their hands out at the Dunstans stop, felt really bad for them, have they got a sign up to let people know when its shut and when it opens ?
  6. I've had mine knocked off twice on Underhill rd, once by the P13 trying to squeeze past a car that had stopped the other side of the road to let it pass, but was practically on the white line. (My car wasn't sticking out either, my scrapped hub cabs are a testimony to how close to the kerb I try to get) The 2nd time I think must have been kids or someone, as it was on the pavement side... I now fold my mirrors in every evening, expensive lesson learnt by me. Ps I got no joy off bus company as driver denied it happened or didn't actually notice, and was cheaper to get it repaired myself rather then go through insurance with excess etc. *sigh*
  7. well the more the merrier I say I love... them both :)
  8. Haha love it ! especially the "old villa" bit...Is this the same person who writes the "gays of south London" blog ? they are pretty much the same style ...Love that too :)
  9. We had a letter from the police put through our door from the police, as did all our neighbours on Underhill road, stating their had been an increase in burglaries in our area And warning us to be vigilant. So I think its unfair to to berate someone on the forum for voicing concerns when the local police also feel their is a reason to be mindful of the threat.
  10. This is hideous & follows a low key media campaign by the government to demonise ALL people on benefits so they can get public support for these ill thought out polices. I have a friend who is bipolar Who I used to work with who is desperate to work, but his illness prevents him but he still tries, & I lost a family member a few years ago to suicide through mental health issues who would have been affected by this if she was still around. For a Government to make light of a condition that makes it hard for people to function is just ridiculous in the 21st century. I hope you find some help in the advice from the people that have posted above.
  11. We used to use a door to door fish man years ago for a long time, think it was called pauls or something like that. fish was fine and good quality, but stopped as it was getting pricy
  12. Complete chaos at 7am this morning, as temp lights failed & were stuck on red in Peckham rye with traffic backing up to forest hill road. Bus driver told us we should get off as we weren't going anywhere, so had to run to Peckham rye station to catch my train. Unfortunately cafe in station didn't sell the oxygen I needed when I got there.
  13. Was terrible this morning, I get the 363 from Woodvale/langton rise, left early as I know what its like when there are works on that junction from times before. Thought allowing 40 minutes for what would normally be a 10-15 min journey to Peckham rye station would be adequate, but no, still missed my train, & this was at 7 am this morning ! I saw some scary driving too which is worrying when you think of the schools near by, especially frustrated drivers running the zebra crossing when people were waiting to cross :/
  14. The draft house was closed too. Was meeting a friend that night there and he text me to say that and the plamerston was shut. He was told the draft house was closing straight after he was served a pint and had 4 minutes to drink it ...lucky thats all it takes for him usually ;)
  15. I find the notion of drivers taking more risk if you wear a helmet strange, as a driver also it makes no odds to me, I give a wide berth when I see someone on a bike if they are wearing one or not, as a cyclist it was near misses that drove me to wear a helmet in the first place , especially the driver who passed so close Their wing mirror flew off as he hit my handle bar, as I was then sent sprawling onto the pavement in borough one time, just stopping my head from hitting the ground. I got my first helmet soon after that.
  16. I have cycled for almost 15yrs around london, & I would not get on my bike without a helmet, no it won't protect you from being run over by a car or lorry (not even a suit of armor would) but it doesn't take a lot to damage the brain from an impact to the head from the height of falling off a bike. I know of someone (one of my sisters work colleagues) who suffered blood clots on his brain due to banging the side of his head on the kerb as he fell off his bike after having braked suddenly, he had two major ops to remove them. (a helmet would have reduced the impact and prevented this he was told) And a fellow cyclist I know lost control and went over his handle bars head first into a lampost near the park in camberwell, he had mild concussion, but could have been a lot worse with out his helmet which cracked under the impact. I think it should be up to the individual to wear one or not, we are all as adults responsible for our own safety (though I do feel young children should wear them at all times) I am glad the lady in the accident is ok, I see so many accidents on my commute, Cyclists & motorists need to look out for each other more and have some common sense, I see stupid risks on both sides regularly on my travels sadly :/
  17. I've used it for 3 years as I work in Kentish town ...It's normally fine, but does get affected in winter, even when it hasn't been snowing, been delayed by 10-14 mins so far this week & some days last week. So have a back up plan. I now use the invaluable Uk train times App on my phone on the bus to the station, it follows the train on its route and I can see if its been cancelled or badly delayed, if it has I stay on the bus and go to the Elephant and get the tube. PS If you get on the train after it's been delayed for more then 12-14 minutes, keep an ear out for announcements. If its too delayed, once it gets to St Pancras it will go fast to St Albans & Luton missing out all other stations. Had my earphones on once and missed the announcement & could only gaze in bewilderment as train sped through Kentish town all the way to St Albans.
  18. OH so sorry to read this. My car was tagged at the same time as some of my neighbors a while ago on underhill, we all had the word "VEX" scratched into our bonnets by some scumbag, and my car is an old banger, felt even more sorry for my neighbors who had much more expensive cars then mine, sometimes its just mindless indiscriminate vandalism :/
  19. The RSPCA & most vets advise cats are kept in at night before we go to bed, they are more likely to wander or get injured by fighting (fox attacks can happen though rarely) or being hit by a car. We have four cats..two were strays we took in...well they decided to move in, one was pregnant, we kept two of the kittens who are now 5yrs old. We always get them in at night, A/ because of the higher risk of injury B/ because one of them is a bit of a hunter (the other three can't be arsed) So as well as avoiding more chance of a hefty vets bill or losing one, we are also safe guarding wildlife and reducing the chance of stepping on a pile of small furry bodies in the morning outside the bedroom door. Neutering is the best option, makes them lazy and less likely to wander as killaqueen says. Ours are pretty well trained and tend to come in at night, in the winter you can't shove them out the cat flap. As for fouling, well they use the litter tray ( two are quite old and now tend to prefer our patio, so dustpan and brush always on standby ) Neighbors on both sides have cats so there's no knowing who's poops belongs to who to be honest. I can't understand people who get cats and shove them out all of the time, they can be trained, especially from kittens.

I grew up around berko and remember how the cinema shut through lack of use when video rental killed off many a local cinema and was earmarked for flats. It took a few years but just shows what can be achieved when a community campaign & a new generation of Cinema goers who never knew the heyday of the Big screen, just the mundane popping down to the local video store for the latest release spring into action. I think there is a demand for this type of cinema again as people get bored of watching films online or through satellite or cable, or visiting noisy nacho filled multiplexes. Yes people did stop visiting local cinemas, but I think there is a new generation who want to experience the social experience of small independent cinema & would support it. I think the obvious choice would be the old forest hill cinema, but I doubt very much if wetherspoons would relinquish this cash cow anytime soon ;)
  21. 30 min walk to Peckham eye station this morning was quite pleasant ( just missed rain) no sign of 363 or 63, tho did see a 343 in Peckham going towards the rye. Got to work in north London, lots of buses here though.
  22. From what I can gather the 12 63 363 are run by go ahead & the 176 Arriva two of the 3 companies that took out an injunction, Cant say wether they will be running or not though..TFL website is very vague :/ Guess best option is to check in the morning.
  23. Basically it is WRONG & very selfish to leave bins outside to reserve a space, I live in a road where sometimes I have to park away from my property & so do my neighbors theirs, but I accept the fact thats life in London. I wouldn't dream of putting bins out to reserve a space, I would be quite frankly embarrassed & cringe at what fellow neighbors would think of me. If you live on a public road you have absolutely no more right then anyone else to your own private space. You can either apply to build a drive or move to a property with private parking. I think its pretty arrogant to think you have more rights then others wether you have kids or not. I can see why people with young children are frustrated but at the end of the day if you live on a public street why should you be have special treatment then anyone else...I bet their are other people on Streetgirl's road who have children who don't behave the same way, ( i'd be suprised in ED if there isn't ) also if someone is running a garage repair service on your street, or selling cars, then that is illegal and you can report them by the way. *has a cup of tea and a sit down*
  24. You're right Gidget they don't,She was covered for all her blood tests to check for other illnesses before the operation which showed up a slight kidney problem and treatment she will have to have because of that.
  25. our 14yr old cat had to have several teeth out there this week, couldn't have been happier with the service, we wanted a second opinion after not being entirely happy with our regular vet...it all seemed a bit rushed. The new vets wouldn't operate until all blood tests came back so they could see she was fit enough to go through it, our old vets wanted to do the op straight away They spent time talking us through her operation, even telling us about the gas they use (they use a really safe one apparently which is more expensive but didn't pass on the cost to us ) She had the op and recovered really quickly eating straight away. The practice even helped filling out the forms for the insurance. The price was about the same as our old vets quoted, but we felt we got a long detailed consultation.
