  1. I trust you're referring to Stalin Wasn't Stallin'. Wyatt didn't write it. It was actually a cover version of a song by a wartime American gospel group who were praising Stalin for being on their side against the Nazis. I think he was making a point about selective memory and making alliances of convenience or something. Or maybe he just thought it was a good tune. I only know this because it was played on 6Music a couple of weeks ago and I just had to look it up. Which is something that never happens when listening to Heart FM. Is this off-topic, btw?
  2. I think the "temple-like building" is Dulwich Hospital. It has onion-style domes and I'm pretty sure from memory they are blue/green. And nice 'shoppage wjfox!
  3. Does anyone know how I can find out where Court Lane Gardens is?

I don't get how it prevents burglary. You've spotted a slight flaw, but I don't think it's a serious one. If there's evidence against the suspect and he can't produce any receipts then he may be bang to rights anyway. But if the item has already been marked it would then have two markings; one of the person who the police already suspect of burglary and another of a victim of a burglary who has reported the fact to the police. It would be unnecessary to involve Inspector Morse at this juncture. I presume the crime-fighting idea behind the kits is that if enough people use them, any stolen item is likely to have the details of its owner indelibly and invisibly marked upon it. This would make said item difficult to fence and a bit too hot to keep about the house for the villain's own use. Therefore burglary isn't worth the risk. Keep 'em peeled.
  5. Someone earlier made the point that parking regulations in parts of London are very complicated, giving this example www.barnetresidentsassociation.org.uk. To be fair though, I know it's got a lot of numbers in it, but it's perfectly clear. It says you can park Mon to Sat between 9.30am and 4.30pm if you buy a ticket (max 1 hour). Parking is free through the night 6.30pm to 8.00am, and all day Sunday. Another slightly different rule applies to loading. And there's an arrow pointing you to the nearest ticket machine.

  8. Don't worry oweneth, I just read it on the "attempted mugging" thread.
  9. Really sorry to hear about your mugging oweneth. Can you let us know where it happened? And at what time of night?

    Bloodstains

Anyone know why there's bloodstains on the pavement outside Nicolas on LL? Is it because East Dulwich is "edgy"?
  11. 1 hour 32 mins according to the thetrainine.com East Dulwich-London Bridge-Paddington-Heathrow. And that allows an hour to get from London Bridge to Paddington by tube.
  12. There is no other chain Coffee shop on the Lane (thenk goodness). I'm pretty certain they must mean Nero. Easy to confuse the two.
  13. *Bob*, I'll call your "Dog Stab" and I'll raise you "Chicken"... http://farm1.static.flickr.com/18/71221669_8abf57a35a.jpg
  14. That's really good news. Thanks for letting us know!

If you're uncomfortable with a publication, don't read it. I don't buy the Sun for a similar reason. But this thread is News. Small-time News admittedly, but news I'm interested in because it's happening just round the corner from me. And I appreciate the fact that someone's volunteered to take and post a photo so I can see what's been going on. Thanks Nutty, by the way.
  17. Apparently the Black Cherry are serving a new cocktail. Basically it's flat lager poured over smashed ice and it's ?3.80 a pop. They're calling it the "Crushed and De-Vale-ued". Do you see what I've done there?

I can understand why you think this is odd (I think you mean slightly shameful), but this is no different to the pictures in newspapers or on TV news. We can be supplied with all the info we need in writing or verbally, but we have a basic human desire to use our eyes. In fact what you see here is a little bit of citizen journalism, bypassing the South London Press or the BBC. I guarantee you'll be seeing a lot more of this kind of thing in the coming years. So what you see here isn't "odd", it's the future.
  19. I'm also loving the pop that he/she took at the Bishop; "The beer is dire in there to, there is hardly any gas to the beer at all".
  20. We have blackbirds nesting in our garden every year. This year a pair laid four eggs in a nest in a bush but they didn't hatch. Possibly the same pair then laid one egg in another nest in some dense ivy-like growth and again it didn't hatch. Then we think the same pair (it's difficult to tell) had a third go in nest number two and we were rooting for them. Today we found the mum dangling dead next to the nest with her foot caught in some foliage. In the nest were five dead hairless chicks. Does anyone know a good bereavement counsellor?
  21. Just nipped out to investigate. They're at the LL end of Bawdale Rd. It does seem a tad loud, but it is Bank Holiday Saturday night. Their worst crime is playing Easy Lover by Phil Collins. The inconsiderate b******s.
  22. Thanks reetpetite. Apologies, I didn't realise they were ironic. In that case I'm all for them. Do they do requests? I'd like to hear the Shipping Forecast at full volume. Or at the very least something by Flanders and Swann.
  23. Anyone know what that bloody Morris Minor is all about? It's black with a pick-up truck style back and it's carting an extremely loud PA system around ED playing music with a bit of unintelligible MC-ing over the top. I saw it last weekend and thought it was something to do with the festival.
