  1. Hi there! I'd be very grateful if someone could recommend a seamstress who could alter a pair of trousers for me - they need shortening and tapering in slightly - nothing too complicated! Thank you!
  2. I used Lathams for about 8 months last year and they were great. And yes they organised the permit. Their number is 020 8778 9008.
  3. Turners on Barry Rd are brilliant - reliable, helpful and reasonable.
  4. Another recommendation for Carla and her waxing! She is friendly and professional and I would be more than happy to recommend her. Thank you Carla!
  5. In answer to the question, why pledge? I think it depends on the individual. Personally I liked The Mag as it was 12-18 months ago - good food and a nice environment to have a drink. If pledging a sum that I felt comfortable with (which of course will vary from person to person) means that we retain that, then that would be my motivation. I wouldn't classify it as a subsidy, just an investment in the community for which I hope to get a (non-monetary) return. If I get a couple of drinks and herbs / groceries thrown in then I'm probably better off than when I usually go to the pub in the evening! Personally I'm not too keen on The Mag showing football etc but that is only my view and I'm sure that many will disagree.
  6. Hi Sue, I get the impression (perhaps wrongly) that you have concerns with Arnold's plans for The Mag. It's probably very difficult for individuals trying to establish a new business, to buy outright the freehold of a pub. Perhaps the people most likely / in the best position to do this, are going to be large breweries who are the opposite of independent. It might therefore seem that the closest alternative is an individual who can purchase the lease and essentially run the pub in the manner they choose whilst honouring their contract. I think that Arnold's plan appears to be a very happy solution to this issue. Given your concerns do you have any other proposals as to how the site could be used in order to ensure a community focused pub with its own character and USP? I for one am rather pleased that this thread isn't at least discussing whether the site could be turned into M&S or Waitrose! They seem to recognise that we will all have some questions that need answering and another post suggests we direct them to their Facebook page: www.facebook.com/dulwichpatch
  7. PandG Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Miss Wiggy is that an invite? Absolutely! I'm sure the people there will have an idea of what is happening then we'll all be a little the wiser.
  8. Why don't we all pop down for a drink this weekend, then we could ask these questions? Might help alleviate some of the confusion and we'd also be supporting a local business at the same time - everyone's a winner!
  9. Yes please! I really miss Green and Blue
  10. Hear hear Cora and PandG! There are many threads on this forum complaining about the loss of independent shops and restaurants / cafes - I think it's great that someone is making the effort to consider what we all love about our area and has come up with an idea that fits in with the ethic that so many feel strongly about. Lets give it some support, and fingers crossed it gets off the ground!
  11. This is a really great idea. This link has some more useful information: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/362893753/londons-first-100-self-sustaining-gastropub
  12. Hi All! I wondered whether anyone knew of a decent shop relatively locally, that sells ski clothing and equipment? Any recommendations very gratefully received. Thank you!
  13. I love Clos Maggiore in Covent Garden which does great French food and is a really beautiful restaurant as well. As it doesn't have the status of the Ledbury etc i think it is also easier to book. I also prefer the atmosphere is CM as it is cosier and more intimate - depends what you're looking for! Have a great night wherever you go! http://www.closmaggiore.com/
  14. No Im afraid it didn't. The cost of the bay window (sash etc) and the roofing on top were on top of that figure. Whereabouts are you in ED (may affect size / style of bay window)? If you'd like to come round and have a look at mine to get an idea then do let me know - if you like what you see then I can wholeheartedly recommend the stonemason I used who project managed the window from start to finish. He really was super and was very helpful at the end of a pretty painful process. Along the way we came across several people / companies who promised us they could do the job, but who disappeared when push came to shove, and we found ourselves back at square one on several occasions. Feel free to PM me if you like.
  15. I have just had my bay window rebuilt after it was ripped out by the previous owners and replaced with a upvc mono pitch. We were able to keep the base of the bay window but had to have all the stonework (pillars, capitols and headstone) remoulded from scratch which was not cheap (into 4 figures). The stone company then recommended a stone mason to reconstruct our window with all the stonework - perhaps sensibly, my builder didn't want to go near it because of the specialist work and weight of the stone involved. I am thrilled with the result (leaving it as it wasn't really an option as the window looked so awful) but I would say that all in all it probably cost about ?6-7k.
  16. I've used Andrew Brock and Turners - Turners for my MOT (Andrew Brock doesn't do MOTs and takes his to Turners) and for another problem that Andrew couldn't fix. I think they're both honest, very pleasant and reasonably priced.
  17. I got mine from Jim in Sydenham too - very reasonable and as they're reclaimed you can find something a bit different. My carpenter fitted the door - a straightforward job for him and it also meant he could also make adjustments to size if it wasn't a perfect fit.
  18. He seems to be looking for a house on several roads in ED, although the letter I received said he had made a specific request for my road 😉
  19. I used Simply Removals for packing, moving and storage for nearly a year. They were brilliant - friendly, helpful and very reasonable compared to all the other quotes I received. I would definitely recommend them and use them again. http://www.simplyremovals.co.uk/
  20. Yes I've done the same. If you ring that number you can register for text updates. The text I've just received says there is a blown fuse at our local substation.
  21. Yes I'm in darkness on Jennings Road too. No info as yet but will post if I get any.
