ED Picturehouse - When will it open?
Louisa replied to Reg Smeeton's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I am starting to wonder whether in fact StraferJack is kind of morphing into a new version of myself. This is all becoming very odd I tell thee. I agree though, no conspiracy, just an old building which needs lots of work doing to it. If you want popcorn go to rhe supermarket. Louisa. -
I find it funny how StraferJack still alludes to Parkdrive possibly being me. On the topic of old people going to festivals I think it's incredibly cringe worthy when someone past a certain age engages in stuff aimed at younger people in a very awkward attempt to rekindle youth. Red face factor times 1000. Louisa.

Grove tavern to reopen. Fact or fiction.

I agree MrBen. It's time has passed. Sad but undeniably true and nothing will change that. Just seems a shame various historic hostelries and landmark building are losing out to brand new pubs in less salubrious surroundings (thinking of both Peckham pubs). I still refer to King on the Rye even today, and it's been gone a very long time now. Louisa. -

How did you know fox and I drank half a mild? How were you aware we were around during the Norman invasion? This is all slightly scary. You win. I'm off to bed the Merlot just drained out the bottle grrr. Sweet dreams. Louisa. -

Oh spark67 give it a rest. What mindless idiot would go to a pub just for those things? If a pub had to survive off of the business supplied by those customers they'd be skint within a month. And no he didn't play the troll card for that reason, if you look at his history you'll see other references to pubs and quizzes and such like. Its the EDF syndrome, don't agree with someone? Play the troll card. Boring. Louisa. -
I put all my money in my sock. You never know what may happen on a walk (something I try to avoid God bless my car). Louisa.

Yawn snowy. Playing the troll card just because you're one of the very people who love pubs that partake in all of those things! Louisa. -

What's this obsession with music, quizzes, food, sport on TV? I just don't get it! A public house is an institution aimed at folk who want to consume liquor and basically socialise with decent conversation and interaction. Get a life and stop turning a boozer into a friggin social club slash restaurant. Louisa. -

I know I've raised this a few times before, and I'm not going to start a big thing about it. But please please please, if you are going to use the path, particularly if you have a number of children and prams etc be aware of people in front/behind you. Also, is anyone else having issues opening the gate opposite St.John's Church? Many thanks. Louisa.

And I fit into a separate thread entitled 'Things which don't fall into the other three threads'. Louisa.

Pibe in answer to pubes, some love them some hate them, marmite syndrome. We then go into sub-category of front door and back door pubes. Big difference between the two. Personally, I've never been a fan of either, on ANYONE, but could you be certain that neither fall into the other two threads. Subjective. Is that a pube in my tea? Louisa.

Cilla Black. Comes across smug, arrogant and selfish. Never understood her national treasure status. Never was much of a singer back in the day either. Louisa.

Whilst I agree on Rye Lane itself you do struggle to find the trendy stuff (at the moment at least), on most of the side roads, leading onto it there is an abundant nightlife and cafe culture which is growing by the week. A walk around the top end of Peckham Rye on the junction with Rye Lane currently has Blue Tit (trendy East London hairdressing import), Pedlar (upmarket eatery and cocktail bar recently opened) a new independent organic food store with great window displays and I noticed today a new barbecue and craft beer restaurant/bar about to open in the row of shops next to the recently opened smartly dressed estate agent. It's changing and at a rapid pace. Louisa.

The location is a two fold problem. It's on the junction of two busy roads which make it almost impossible for people to navigate here at certain hours of the day. Secondly, footfall is very low indeed coupled with the fact residential streets and housing aren't slap bang on the door of this place. If it were turned into a go to destination pub with good food beer selection and possibly hotel too it would stand a fighting chance. Not many people are prepared to that risk it seems. Louisa. -
Can we differentiate between front door and back door pubes? Louisa.

Cheques. They're pretty unpopular nowadays anyway. Louisa.

Wrong location for a Waitrose Applespider, limited footfall a fair distance from a train station and dare I say it but the wrong demographic too. Louisa. -

RIP the Grove Tavern indeed. Such a shame the Dulwich Estate are selling this great landmark pub. Also sick to death of every single site in the area being jumped on by local councillors as places to stick schools. I've avoided these topics to date but if I hear one more mention of a bloody school replacing every single brown field site in the area I will run through the streets naked screaming. You don't want to see that, trust me, so please shut the #%$? up about schools replacing valuable historic community assets like the great Grove Tavern. Louisa. -
This is true Seabag. However, Selco is primarily a tradesman used business, unlike B&Q which is mostly DIY people who are more likely to take some of these guys on. Louisa.

I'm confused what is this acid stuff? Am I the only person on this forum who still thinks acid is something that comes in a bottle and burns the skin? Louisa.

Fox that's a pretty regular occupancy unfortunately. I think the security guys gave up in the end due to the intimidation plus the fact it's private property and the police kind of have their hands tied in many ways. I wonder how often they have the police helicopter out for these guys? I've seen it out over there too and many of the guys just ran across to McDonald's or ASDA. Louisa.
