RPC things people often dismiss or do not think about are just the sort of things which we need to explore more profoundly. Louisa.

Ritual - spiritualist churches such as mine allow large numbers of elderly and lonely people to come along once or sometimes twice a week and take part in a service in familiar surroundings with people they know and enjoy their experience. "Useful social purpose" Belief - "to avoid ostracism or death" this works fine in some examples, but not all, by any means. Good examples being 'born again christians' who find god themselves without any of the baggage attached to growing up in religion or being fearful of exclusion. Many spiritualists fall into this category. Louisa.

SJ, it sounds odd I know, but animals coming back from the dead are just as plausible as humans coming back. I've felt what I believe to be a cat rubbing around my legs with no possible explanation of what else it could be (I was naked at the time). Louisa.

Maybe you could inform the 2.1 billion Christians, 1.6 billion Muslims and those who follow other 'illogical' and unproven scientific understandings of the universe of this Burbage. I'm guessing the "admitting the baseless existence" of spirits is on a par with the 'baseless existence of god'. I reckon we will have a large number of jobs for mental health experts if we are to cure all these illogical folk of their odd belief systems. Louisa.

Some spiritualists take the religious route - my spiritualist church takes readings from the bible and hymns in the service. Others do not. Some spiritualists charge, others do not. Like everything in this world, some people are genuinely doing it because they believe, others want to make a quick buck. Some people choose to believe regardless of science and logic, others take the polar opposite opinion. So, erm, yeah... Anyway... RPC I too had a spirit medium give me a reading and without me even opening my mouth names were thrown at me with solid descriptions and job titles. I was astounded. Louisa.

am that's such a sweet story. I once too had a passed animal communication when I lived in a flat just off commercial way in Peckham. Animals for whatever reason seem to be more susceptible, alongside children, to these experiences. And anyone who has EVER used a Ouija board will know EXACTLY what those of us who talk of these experiences mean. Although I would advise against their use at all costs, they DO work. Louisa.

Guys there is no argument, we are just human beings and we only know what we know and can prove to date. I'm sure there is a lot more beyond our understanding, even the ability to which our understanding can stretch. So all the nay sayers arrogantly using logic to dismiss another's belief can carry on doing so. It bothers me not. I still believe whether you do or not. Louisa.

Oh SJ stop the hating of all things spiritual, I know you secretly want to see something and are quite peeved spirit has not put out to you yet! And I have heard and experienced things it isn't just hear-say! RPC yes those early post-death experiences are quite common, lots of people have had this happen. Spirit tends to be quite unsettled if they do not want to Pass just yet and this phenomenon is quite normal. Louisa.

MagMag I've heard about these night visitations. I've been informed by a psychic that activity tends to be greatest in the early hours. It sounds as though he was just visiting to say hello or to reassure perhaps? These are my favourite visitations. Full of love and not at all intended to frighten. Louisa.

In typical EDF style a thread goes a million miles off-topic. This was not meant to be a debate about the existence of life itself, it was about sharing stories and sightings for those interested. I may as well have gone out in the middle of a gale and whistled in the hope someone could hear me. Louisa.

How to dispose of estate agents sign?
Louisa replied to ellieaness's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Can't believe a thread about the disposal of a real estate sign has made two pages. Anything is possible in 2014 fellow EDFers! Louisa. -
Reports of overly paranoid middle-class types in East Dulwich

Close but no cigar. And where's the mention of Iceland and yummy-mummy? Better luck next time ;) Louisa. -
Has anyone else watched tonight's show? I know it's post-watershed, and I am far from prudish, but watching Z list celebrities partaking in a "pole dancing club" themed task was a step too far for me. Was anyone else offended by this? I also watched these 'celebrities' in outfits bordering on explicit. To name but one of a few, Lionel Blair appeared to be wearing a plastic/leather American police uniform and some rather unnecessary foul language was used. Are television standards falling or am I just getting old? I had to switch over. Louisa.

I'm with you there, people who put "like" in front of or within sentences when not needed wind me up a treat. It's a word that should be used sparingly. Louisa.

I love looking at and sharing old photographs of the local area. I've shared some of the stuff online previously on here, however I'm now on the lookout for old shops long since gone. Would be great for people to share their memories. From any era, as long as it's not around now. In particular, lordship lane- the old art shop opposite what was then Gateway (and Gateway itself if anyone has any?), Binsters Toy Shop? (now mon petit chou) Woolworths (now Foxtons) and also rye lane- Marks and Spencer 54-58 rye lane (now Argos and peacocks?) British Home Stores (now Primark) C&A (now McDonalds) and any other small independent quirky tailors which once famously lined the street. Louisa.

Anyone else getting nuisance calls from a female?

The opening post made a very reasonable attempt to explain themselves - subsequent early responses went off topic and made wild assumptions. The OP clearly felt these comments were not relevant. ellieaness Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Frankly, every time I ask anything on this > 'community' forum it's shot down in flames - what > is the point? I feel your pain. However, to be fair, you've had a whole host of sensible as well as slightly tongue in cheek responses on here. Frankly, it isn't the biggest issue in the world, and common sense is the best route (hack saw) after you've exhausted the obvious (contacting agent, contacting council etc). Louisa. -
Anyone else getting nuisance calls from a female?
Louisa replied to tomdhu's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Why does everything result in a bitch-fest on the EDF. The opening post has received nuisance calls from someone who May or may not have mental health problems or just be lonely and needing someone to talk with. They have taken it upon themselves to block the number of the person, and not contact the police because (rightly or wrongly) they have made the calculation that it could potentially cause more harm than good to someone who is already vulnerable (totally understandable). They then try and be helpful by narrowing down the postcode area of the caller and provide the last few digits of the nuisance callers telephone number (potentially aiding a relative who reads this thread towards helping said person). All of the above seems perfectly reasonable to me. Once again, a helpful thread is turned into a travelling circus, and for once I have nothing to do with it (because that's what I do doncha know?). Louisa. -
Yes because we all want house prices to keep rising forcing more and more working class people out of the area right? This is how it all starts. Talking up an areas mediocre attributes, which in turn attract cash buyers looking for the next 'cool' place to live. In turn, the personality and charm of said area is lost, and only a small proportion of people can afford to live there. Louisa.

I hate to do this, but im going to anyway. "Street food" - we are literally coming full circle (again). NC market is a couple of these vans selling fancy burgers and sausages, a few tat stalls, fish/meat and erm there we have it. A proper market offers choice, the whole point of a market is a variety of smells sights and sounds, it's a visual exploration. What we have on offer on North Cross is a very small start up market, and it seems to have been that way for some years now without any signs of expansion. Like everything in ED, it's a half hearted attempt. Why can't we go for it properly if we want a market, close the road off and invite local trades people to setup stalls along the whole road? Louisa.
