  1. Hear hear, who queues for a burger or pizza? Northcote Road wannabes that's who lol Louisa.
  2. Sorry guys, not White Stuff, The White Company - I was confused at first too. One of my friends asked me if I had been to see the really nice candles for sale in there and me being confused and a big candle person went into White Stuff thinking she was talking about there and had a sales assistant give me a half baffled look. I felt a bit of an idiot. Is there one on North Cross Road? Does this store even exist around here? I'm now more confused than ever and don't even know if said store exists or not. Louisa.
  3. Any ever shopped in one of their stores? And before you ask yes this is ED related. Louisa.
  4. So what's the solution BigED? How about we allow all the unsuccessful independents to close down, and then ban all chains from renting those sites that are empty. Then we have a high street like most others up and down the country- empty, no footfall, struggling. Great idea! Chains and independents bounce off one another in a successful high street. Louisa.
  5. TJ pleas stop with all this common sense stuff. Why oh why would we want a small chain cinema coming to our area, creating jobs and increasing footfall on LL? Making the bars and restaurants busier and more successful and making the place shine like a beacon on the night out map once more. What kind of insane idea is this and why would anyone with half an ounce of common sense touch it with a barge poll? .... Said the average EDF forumite. ;) Louisa.
  6. Oh wow I love Jigsaw - great news for the village! I still put my money on Space NK coming to ED in the next 6 months. Louisa.
  7. I love Lou Reed. Louisa.
  8. Dopamine1979 :) I chuckled. That clip sums up modern ED and the more money than sense brigade. Louisa.
  9. Neither are wagon wheels. Louisa.
  10. MM I shall enjoy every last one of those sweeties. Any I don't eat won't be wasted, they'll go in the bin, and any trick or treaters brave enough to rummage through my garbage bin is welcome to them! :) Louisa.
  11. Oh if only we had a Pret :( Louisa.
  12. I saw some gaunt looking welly wearing middle class mothers loitering with their toddlers in Halloween costumes earlier this morning. I always buy a small bucket of haribo sweets and leave them in the window, when said trick or treaters knock I don't answer and wave at them from my living room window hehe. I'm a wicked old bat Louisa.

I was once fingered at Woolies in Petts Wood because the security alarms went off as I exited the store at the same time as someone who had walked out with two Easter eggs stuffed up their jumper. They took me to the office then quickly realised they had got the wrong person and a Benny Hill style chase along the high street eventually caught the culprit. I was most amused once the shock and horror of being accused of stealing from Woolworth's had passed. Louisa.
  14. Peckham had two C&A stores at the same time, one is now McDonald's and the other is the large building opposite Peckham Rye station in between the two railway arches. If you ever travel from Peckham Rye towards London Bridge you can still see the famous old C&A logo on top of both buildings. Louisa.
  15. I can't believe we are fast approaching the 5th anniversary of the demise of high street chain Woolworths (not to be confused with the new online retailer of the same name). They left ED years ago (now Foxtons), but they left a huge and noticeable hole in Peckham's Rye Lane and unbelievably a large percentage of their old stores remain empty to this day! For me personally Poundland et al do not cut the mustard or the same sentimentalities as Woolies once did, and I miss them. Can we please have some memories/pictures shared here in the build up to the anniversary? Any former employees? Louisa.

Tallulah71 I'm laughing as I type, I think I've just seen something funny! See it? :) Louisa.

Judging by the size of the vegetable patch out the back, we may get more odd looks for the carrier bag full of peas carrots and cauliflowers than we would for sharing a main Sue. Maybe we could bring a bag of Iceland frozen mixed veg and ask them to microwave it for us? :) Louisa.

Sorry, tallulah71. More an informality than an obvious typo though. No I've not checked my shoulder lately, I hope it's still in the freezer though because I do love a shoulder of lamb. If not, then I'll have to just wait for my shared plate with Sue :) talking of shoulders have you checked yours? I'm sure there's a sense of humour there somewhere. Just a guess ;) Louisa.

Sue that sounds like an epic event to me. Never been a big eater anyway. Let's hope the portion sizes are upto scratch. We may get the odd look, but I'm more than happy to sacrifice my dignity for a nice bit of meat. Rare or well done? Louisa.

Well I salute you in your endeavour to find 'good food' tallulah (as objective a subject as that may be) and I also respect your 'half glass full' approach to food you are yet to try (unless you are psychic and have foreseen just how great it will be of course). Not to worry about the lack of support for the 'Louisa Lamb Main Fund' or LLMF as I like to call it, I'm sure I'll somehow reach my target of ?10 somehow. Please do report back and let me know how great the food is. I've never been into this Witherspoons establishment you refer to? Is it similar to Wetherspoons? If so I'm down for an Aunt Bessie's roast spud anytime of the day.. I'll certainly be trying that one out next time I'm stuck at an airport :) Louisa.

Great another boozer turns into an organic veggie guardian readers paradise. Can anyone donate a tenner towards my main? Like the sound of the lamb. Louisa.
  22. There is an Iceland on Westow Hill in CP is there not? Anyway, if the local organic brioche hungry bourgeoise get their way ours won't be around much longer quids :) Louisa.
  23. To be honest the pull factor of areas like Crystal Palace and Peckham is bound to eventually outstrip ED. Bigger, cheaper houses for buying and renting - better rail connections (Overground), lively and trendy, 'on the up'... All the things once attractive about here are now gone. It shouldn't affect small businesses and the way they view customers, but perhaps does in some small ways. Businesses in their early years in exciting edgy areas will want to attract a customer base and do exciting different things to break the mold. Once established maybe they occasionally need a little reminder to 'up their game', no harm in that. Louisa.
  24. Poppet don't be put off for expressing an opinion. If that were the case I'd have been gone years ago! Everyone is entitled to an opinion and I think in the interest of balance and fair play you should at least try those same shops on a different day just to see if you caught them on an off day. I personally do not shop as often as I used to on LL, but not because of the service, for me it's more to do with the lack of shops I like. A girl can only have so many estate agents and curry houses to window shop. Louisa.
  25. I blame Somerfield. They were perfectly adequate before they merged. Louisa.
