Old Moo Too, Sew East Dulwich Shop 45 Lordship Lane

Forget Starbucks, my money is on Space.NK.apothecary or Jack Wills. Louisa. -
New Absolutely Dulwich magazine??
Louisa replied to Katy Tonbridge's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I prefer Absolutely Peckham. Tonnes of adverts for chicken shops and nail bars, and a special report on how the new pound shop to replace WH Smith has transformed the fortunes of Rye Lane. Louisa. -
LadyD, I have read the news articles you have supplied and its deeply saddening to think such a young life could be taken in this way and I agree action does need to be taken against anyone causing danger to others on our roads. However, as pointed out in one of the news articles, trucks/lorries appear to account for more of the deaths on Londons roads than do car drivers - by quite a margin. The larger the vehicle, the more potential to be dangerous in the wrong hands. Car users and motorcyclists are just as much at risk from lorries on our roads, as cyclists are from cars. Unfortunately, London is an old city with a lot of narrow roads where numerous forms of transport compete for space, and it is a risky business navigating around this city. We all choose how to get around, and some of us will unavoidably be more at risk than others when using these different modes of transportation on such narrow roads. Louisa.

Shame Sainsbury's ever left this site. They spent a fortune on this building and it was much publicised following the closure of the last ever UK counter service store on Rye Lane in the early 80s. Was barely there a decade before it closed. Louisa.

Wow memories! It's amazing what a photograph can do. I have vivid memories of that shop back in the 70s.. Often spoke to Mr Sidonio, and that walls ice cream sign. Thanks for sharing this. Louisa.

I give it another five years tops before one of the trendy indy cinemas move in on the location. Either that or odeon/IMAX! Louisa.

Old Moo Too, Sew East Dulwich Shop 45 Lordship Lane
Louisa replied to IanSE22's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I wouldn't worry too much. No planning applications for this site have been out forward to southwark and it would seem to me to be a rather small site for any such chain to open its doors anyway. Louisa. -
That's subjective LondonMix. I personally wouldn't describe the particular locations as any better than where they came from. The reasons for these people moving are of course varied, but overwhelmingly they want to live near where they work or WANT to work. And they want to live near a trendy inner city vibe. You can't force people not to buy somewhere else, but people moving en mass into areas has caused and continues to cause friction. Whole villages in Cornwall are left abandoned out of the year by second home invaders who destroy local communities. The post war migration (much of it forced) OUT of bombed slums of inner-London to new towns in Essex, Hertfordshire et al caused friction and cultural disenfranchisement with the newly inhabited communities. Much the same is now happening in zone 2/3 London. Local people are simply unable to buy because prices are rising ridiculously above the national average and cash rich buyers are swomping the market from outside. You only need to look at 'Prime London' where whole blocks of flats and houses are bought by foreign investors and left empty for years. Louisa.

LondonMix Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > That makes no sense, but you already know that. > You say they are naive to buy where they want to > live because other people want to live there too > (who you deem more deserving)? What I'm saying is you don't have to live somewhere just because you like it, especially if it means paying through the nose for it and forcing existing locals out of the market. Example - I love Mayfair, it is amazing. Brilliant place to visit and maybe even work in (just a guess no experience). I know I can't afford to live there, unless I want to invest in a dustbin minus the lid, which I'm not keen on doing. Therefore, I visit the area, but know it would be ridiculous to consider buying there on my budget. The same applies to the Home Counties trendies, they love the edgy vibe of inner London and possibly want to work and socialise there. Well, why not stay in the Home Counties, do all that stuff you love to do in London, and buy a cheaper property which is larger in the area you grew up. It stops this hyper inflation property bubble in London and means that people who grew up around here have half a chance at being able to buy in the area where they have their roots. Louisa.

Peckham rye high street - a gazillion police

Where is Peckham Rye High Street? I'm confused. Louisa. -

Rather than jumping the Home Counties trendy bandwagon into zone 2/3 and super inflating inner London prices and forcing existing locals with family roots to be priced out of buying where they grew up! Just saying. Louisa.

I'm watching. Jesus Christ. Anyone got a towel to wipe the damp patches away from behind those foolish young ears? How can anyone seriously look at a below average property you have to pay a ridiculous price for in an average area. Oh well, takes all sorts of people to keep the world spinning. Louisa.

I'd quite like something along the lines of Hart's Boatyard or The Albany both in SW London, some of you may be familiar? I think that format would work exceptionally well around here, in other words a mix of the traditional and the contemporary, the expensive and the more affordable. ED is much further along those lines, although dont get me wrong, I do genuinely hope things continue to improve for these guys as its a bold venture and its tough times, I think we all take our hats off to them and wish them well at the Draft House. former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
Louisa replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi James, I have sent you a private message concerning the recent planning application submitted for Crown House on East Dulwich Road, with the proposal for a large retail unit at ground floor level and residential dwellings above, along with numerous extensions. Do you have any heads up on this and the impact upon parking locally with the proposed retail unit not appearing to provide on-site parking facilities for customers? Louisa. -
People, just people. Louisa.
