  1. Another vote for Deptford Market. Great mix of long standing stool holders who've been there for generations alongside some more exotic late 20th century stalls which sell such a vast range of produce you can never be bored of the selection. All markets specialise in different things aimed at different populations, NC Market is a reflection of this as KK points out. However, it still isn't a match for something of a similar type in other gentrified parts of London. Louisa.
  2. I like planes. I also like noise. That's why I live in London (currently). I also like Mike Dodd liking me. I also like Salsa Boy liking Mike Dodd liking me. This isn't an Aldi advert parody I promise. Louisa.
  3. ED has got so much more going for it than Surrey Quays. For starters we have a cinema, an M&S, a Waitrose, a fully functioning and vibrant market to compete with any other in London, ample free parking spaces, a river island, waterside views, a zone one tube station. What does Surrey Quays have? They can only dream to be as successful as we are! Oh yeah they have a Burger King? Pfffft we can pop to Peckham for our Whopper fix. Louisa.
  4. Sorry for not mentioning every single DIY shop on here (whether I've used it or not), but I'm quite loyal to the shops I use locally. But yes, you're right, I'm sure there are some other equally great independent DIY shops around here too. Louisa.
  5. Without the fabulous Dulwich DIY and A J Farmers this place would be a lot worse off. These are the true small independent businesses we should be supporting not pop up boutique places selling pointless tat, here one day gone the next. Louisa.
  6. It's London. We are on a flight path. What do you expect? Louisa.
  7. "Market". I beg to differ. East Lane, portobello rd, borough, these are all markets. Northcross rd? Hmm maybe at one time in its history. Louisa.
  8. Credit crunch? What credit crunch? Most people in the ED bubble seem more concerned about chain shops opening up rather than worrying about a high street collapsing altogether. Louisa.
  9. KK ?6-?12 thank-you very much ;) Louisa.
  10. Jeremy, *Bob* has abandoned us of late. Gone are the days of one of my threads having a "*Bob* sarcasm grenade" chucked in to further wind me up and make me state my case even more firmly. Damn it Janet. Louisa.
  11. Oh just eat the bleedin thing will ya. If you don't then I will. A bit miffed someone else has a BK burger while I don't tbh. Louisa.
  12. El Pibe Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Bob's your uncle. > El Pibe - I wish *Bob* was my uncle. When are you heading off for pastures new? Louisa.
  13. Back on topic. Has anyone ever heard the story of the haunted boating lake area in Dulwich Park? Numerous people have mentioned seeing a lady in Victorian clothing walking around the boating lake very early in the mornings. Are there any people locally who have witnessed/heard of other peoples accounts on this particular ALLEGED (for the pedants on here) haunting? Louisa.
  14. Tbh it's given me the munchies. I love a cold soggy burger. Louisa.
  15. My great aunt was once possessed according to a dear close family friend. She apparently spoke fluent Japanese whilst in a trance. She was not the type of fancy-free storyteller to make things up, she worked in a cinema for nearly 40 years, she was not in any way insane. Louisa.
  16. Well I've seen and experienced things I don't care what anyone else says. Louisa.
  17. Waitrose and/or M&S will pop up in a new thread title. Odds on favourite. Louisa.
  18. Sue, what astounds me about the human race, is this certainly they claim to have regarding what is fact and what is myth. We are simply not advanced enough to know everything about the universe. So it's fine to say, look all current science dismisses this and until evidence appears I will keep an open mind. What's not fine is for someone to be absolutely certain about something they just do not understand or even keep an open mind just incase something proves them otherwise. I know what I've experienced, and I still keep an open mind to alternative possibilities. Some people are just too damn sure of themselves. Louisa.

I agree with you guys. And also, I miss being able to get a nice strong Kentish/Sussex real ale in any pubs around here. It all seems to be about fancy continental lagers these days or am I missing the point? Landlords/pub companies, stop trying to appease Clapham blow-ins and feed me my brown ale! Louisa.
  20. I can put you in contact with Maureen vito and nunhead_man. She's dealt with flickering lights before, you'd be surprised at how spirit can invade your home electrics. It can become rather annoying. If you need her to attend she offers a great service and she will have your lights working a treat within hours. Inbox me. Louisa.

16 squid for a fry up? You having a giraffe? I don't think even a top west end restaurant would charge that. Louisa.
  22. I do remember now, yes it was a Sainsbury's Freezer Centre back in the early 1970s. In fact, I'm pretty sure Sainsbury's built that building. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sainsbury's_Freezer_Centres Louisa.
  23. James Barber has already confirmed if M&S decide to pull out or look for a bigger unit (police station, co-op?) Waitrose are ready and waiting to take on this site as it is. Either way, it seems the outcome is the demise of Iceland who have served the locally community for close to forty years now (previously this was a Bejam store rebranded) and I will be sad to see them go. Louisa.
  24. I have just checked an official blitz mapping website which confirms a bomb did destroy the Kings Arms public house in 1941, however there is no further information on how many people were killed, if any at all. Like others on here, I've been told the stories through older relatives of people dying but I cannot find any factual information confirming this. Taper, thank you for your reassurance, but as with all belief systems I think we are entitled to believe them whether others do or not. The psychic was not paid, she has been doing it for years and admits herself it isnt flawless, she can only describe what she feels and sees in her minds eye. Whether you choose to believe her or not is upto you. Louisa.
