If anything I'd have said upper class. Although having said that, I can remember the working men's club in Peckham back in the 70s and a lot of the old boys smoked cigars and pipes. Louisa.
  2. Voltore you make a great point, and this was my reckoning too. I've always had an open mind towards other worldly activities for years, and having never previously experienced much I guessed it was all load of old s*it. However, since attending this place I've been given guidance over what to look out for, and I always look for the rational before jumping to conclusions. I've had a trained spirit medium as well as other individuals experiencing things in the property and it all fits together. Louisa.
  3. DM I remember some great posts from you back in the day. How time has flown! Are you satisfied with the level of gentrification that's taken place locally? JL I have taken advantage of this freebie and I can tell you now I was more concerned with the idea of pushing a trolley around filled with goods whilst juggling a hot drink than I was about the standard of people shopping in store. Louisa.
  4. Sue, I've been attending a spiritualist church in Eltham for a few years now on a Sunday, and until very recently had disregarded certain things at home happening. But progressively increasing in frequency I've had unexplained activity happening at home. Including cold spots, movement of objects and the smell of cigar smoke. A visiting spirit medium told me it was the ghost of a man who had lived in the property some 70 years ago and he was an active spirit. I am actually quite happy to have him here, though some people experience more sinister hauntings, I've been lucky. Louisa.
  5. Having recently been visited by a local psychic due to some unexplained activity in my home, I wondered of anyone else had seen or heard of any local ghostly activities? I found a few articles online regarding tales of spiritual activity, and this one in particular caught my eye regarding the old Kings Arms pub which was destroyed during the blitz. http://www.mysteriousbritain.co.uk/england/greater-london/hauntings/the-kings-arms-peckham-rye.html Louisa.
  6. Posh pubs serving up "pulled pork" burgers - *yawn* and recommending some fancy ale made of pumpkin seeds or such like with it. Makes me blood boil. Louisa.

  8. Milton Keynes uses real snow and a proper slope it's quite a unique experience for the UK, the I believe the only one of its kind, unless someone knows otherwise? I've been to watch friends participate and there's a bar area which overlooks the slope, ideal. A fast train from Euston takes 33 minutes and the ski dome is slap bang in the centre of the city (5 minutes in a cab from the station). Alternatively driving isn't a biggy either, allow a few hours once adding on getting out of London etc, 45 miles or so up the M1. Louisa.
  9. SJ I finished it and honestly wow. Please tell me this movie was at least nominated for an oscar? A genuinely sweet little movie with all the roller coaster of emotions you'd want and more. Credit to Pixar, I've seen blockbuster love stories which haven't moved me, and this animation has just taken me on a journey I never expected. What a great surprise! Highly recommended to anyone who hasn't seen it! Keep a box of tissues by your side! Louisa.
  10. Never seen this film before but what an emotional early scene. I must be getting old or soft or both, it made me cry and I've never cried at an animated film before. Louisa.
  11. KK I agree, although I'd rather find a handsome tenor singing by a rubbish bin to me than a rather ugly waste disposal unit. If it's modern art fine, not my cup of tea but I can live with it, if it's so bathing more sinister such as my mental state of mind then I'm rather concerned. I do love 'O sole mio though I must admit, it's better than something modern like M People or atomic kitten. Louisa.
  12. Ok, I'm about to sound like I've totally lost the plot, but this is genuine. I was walking back from the shop parade along east dulwich road heading in the direction of Peckham rye earlier today and someone's rubbish bin in the front garden area started singing 'O sole mio to me. I looked around casually looking for a person and as I approached said waste disposal unit heard the singing become louder. Has anyone else experienced an Italian tenors voice from any dustbins in the area today? Is it some arty farty modern art thing? Or do I need to be sectioned. Bizarre, Louisa.
  13. So many memories... Made me cry! Louisa.

    turkeys

I too was horrified by the price of turkeys this season. I think maybe the flooding of Norfolk has killed off most of them and left us with a shortage. Horrible tasteless bird in my opinion anyway, much rather have a nice chicken or goose. Louisa.
  16. Sue I think we need to launch the last resort sense of humour rocket, what do you think? Presses RED button to summon *Bob* Louisa.
  17. The EDF is Guardian reader Central as far as I'm concerned. End of. Louisa.
  18. Did you hear about the guy whose whole left side was cut off? He's all right now. Louisa.
  19. Perfect compromise - how about a school/waitrose combined. Anything is possible in zone 2 London these days. Louisa.
  20. I have had the most amazing treatment from Kings A&E over the years as have people very close to me. I cannot stress enough how dedicated and truly wonderful they've been to me and I'd like to wish all staff in A&E and the rest of the hospital a very Happy Christmas. Hope all is well with you too ontherun. Just to remind everyone 24 hours in A&E is on channel 4 tonight at 9pm. Louisa.
  21. Just seen this on Southwark Planning. What a great idea to put an original traditional shop front back on this building. Sets a nice precedent for the rest of the lane which has become metal shutter Central for a while now. http://planningonline.southwark.gov.uk/AcolNetCGI.exe?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPNAME=Root.PgeResultDetail&TheSystemkey=9552563 http://planningonline.southwark.gov.uk/DocsOnline/Documents/334069_1.pdf Plans for a cafe restaurant, looks quite promising for this end of Rye Lane. Louisa.
  22. Anticipating the upmarket chain supermarket rumours.... Let's hope it remains in community hands for a new school. Louisa.

M&S? Some other chain to make Lordship > Lane a clone of every other bloody high street in > the land? Sue I'd quite like to see ED have more small chain shops yes I would. But it isn't going to happen because we don't have the space for it. And as I've said before, the ship has sailed on that one, chains aren't interested in ED anymore. So the Indy lovers you've won, the battle is over! Even M&S have been scared off! Congrats! But for me personally, the answer is not to allow yet more of the same independents, be that estate agent, curry house or charity shop. How about an electrical shop, a music shop, an affordable women's clothing store? Louisa.
  24. It won't be a mixed development. It's backing onto a residential area with parking strains. It will either be a small supermarket with a small car park (unlikely) or a block of flats (most likely). Louisa.

    rye lane

Give it another decade and you'll be stepping on waitrose organic pine nut bags littering the street. Louisa.
