  1. Parsley - i've noticed flats struggling around here too. I think when the property bubble burst a bit the less affordable areas became slightly more affordable, and ED kind of drifted off the radar a little for many, and clearly the relatively poor transport links do not help the situation. My neighbours have had their flat on the market for just shy of a year and a half now! SE4 is lovely, good community spirit, stunning looking period homes with quiet tree lined streets, I can see why it has been such a hidden gem for so long and the East London Line will no doubt make it all the more attractive, get in while you can I say! Louisa.
  2. Hear hear Nero, Peckham seems to have a rule for itself! I have so many issues I would like to raise about 'The Lane' area, I personally cannot wait any longer for the bulldozers to come in and clear the stinking smelly slum that Rye Lane has become, that would go a long way to putting a smile on my face, but on a more serious note, what measures are being taken to make the area around Peckham Rye station safer late at night? I have had many worrying experiences down there, some of which have been documented on here many moons ago, and I now no longer choose to use any form of public transport. This kind of links in with the use of Rye Lane for driving through too and the selfish people who park on the roads. Louisa.
  3. Parsley if I were you, I would take advantage of the good housing stock and cheap prices in up and coming SE4 (especially around Telegraph Hill area of New Cross/Brockley). The East London Line is up and running from Brockley station now, and i'm sure it would be a hell of a lot quicker to take that route into canary wharf and jump the tube! Louisa.
  4. Sean, foxes first came to the cities in large numbers due to a number of factors, food waste being one of them. But to be honest people annoy me when they create these problems, and make out the fox to be the villan of the piece. An animal follows it's instinct, and for many years they remained almost an exclusive sight in rural areas and the outer suburbs. People who are careless and encourage animals by disposing of food waste in an innappropriate manner have contributed significantly to this problem, and if anything they should be the brunt of any cull, alongside the people who selfishly make lots of noise in the street at night with a complete disregard for others. Louisa.
  5. Maybe if the animals had not been so seriously controlled in the countryside, they would not have to migrate to the cities for food and sanctuary. I personally think that it is the responsibiliy of humanity that we find ourselves in this situation where these animals are now a nuisance in the city. Mind you, I can think of plenty of people who are a nuisance at night around here, and unlike the animal, they do know differently! Louisa.
  6. ?50 plus for a t-shirt jeepers creepers, they're having a bubble bath in my language! Well if you can afford to splash the cash on this sort of thing good luck to you, but i'll be sticking with somewhere slightly less niche! Louisa.
  7. This thread is still kicking around I see.. I may ask him of I can stick my husband outside with a 'for sale' sign around his neck, he's served his purpose here! Louisa.
  8. This store sounds awful to me, I had never known anything about them other than my friend worked for them for a while behind the scenes, she wont be invited back for a chill sesh and bottle of chardy in the garden ever again after hearing some of this! It amazes me how these places manage to survive. I had never heard of White Stuff, JoJo whatever its called bebe or the other place next to white stuff, before they decided to move into this area! And now to top it off we have another bloody bizarre toff store opening up to sell overpriced goods to ladies of leisure! Bring back Woolies! Louisa.
  9. Lotty I feel your pain on this one, some disgusting hooligan stole the badge off of the front of my Ford (annonymous model)automobile. I had literally just got back from a shopping visit to Lewisham, parked up and went inside, was unpacking, and heard a strange loud noise coming from out the front of my place, I went outside to see this hoody running off with my badge, I was fuming. I tried to chase after the creature but it escaped down a side road. I hope you have reported this incident to the police, these scum should be prosecuted for this sort of damn right ignorant and pointless vandalism. Louisa.
  10. Apparantly theyve been looking at this area for a while according to a friend who works at head office. I have absolutely no idea what the clothing range is like as i've yet to visit one of their stores and my friend is a little absent on detail. No idea why they would come here, dont see the point personally. Louisa.
  11. Or the W H Smith next to Forest Hill station... Or the independent stationer in the Village? Louisa.
  12. How about a good quality deli that sells decent sausages eh Sean? >:D< Louisa.
  13. Erm how about W H Smith in Rye Lane? Louisa.
  14. I voted, and I am very much a traditional floater! As long as the sitting MP is gone, I couldnt give a damn who wins, and I think that is what influenced my vote after checking the marginal nature of the Dulwich and Norwood seat! Louisa.

Alternatively, you can sit on Goose Green and watch various patches of grass grow in the late evening sunlight! :D Louisa.
  16. I decided to dig something shocking and from the late 70's out of an unused wardrobe in the end, everything was shut! Currently sat in the park with my shades on in a deck chair! Come join! Louisa.
  17. Yes indeedy Kapt.Kopter, so sit back and take in some criticism of your stated opinions, rather than assuming that because you said it, and others agreed, that it somehow validates what you said and makes it correct. It may well not be. Oh how i've missed posting on here! Louisa.

I have lived in and around this area ALL my life, and I have been a member on this forum almost from the very beginning. Louisa.
  19. Sean perhaps my cynicism regarding 'newbies' is related to the fact that this guy is one of the last enduring features along this side of LL, and it is no coincidence that despite plenty of things to attack the guy with regarding customer service and whatever else, they suddenly decide to pick up on something which is relatively harmless in the grander scale. I just have this awful feeling that a lot of this stuff is aimed at him and his shop because it no longer fits in with the generally more 'upmarket look' of the place in recent years. Louisa.
  20. Oh here we go, the newbies get a slight sniff of one of a handful of 'old ED'er' owned shops and they want to get their greedy tree hugging hands on it! This guy has been running this place for years, there isnt any harm being caused, and if he owns the land then fair play to him for utilising the space. Why oh bloody why do nosey people have to constantly stick their conk in at every possible oppurtunity? Is it because they are uncomfortable with having such an 'out of place' establishment in between some of their smart trendy shops? Makes me feel sick thinking about it! Leave him alone! That place is part of the furniture, if you dont like it, jump a bus to Putney! GRRRRRR!!! Louisa.
  21. My only political affiliation is towards the care of the daff's! Maybe we should setup an ED movement for the care of daffodils locally. Those pesky middle class brats picking them will need to watch their frail backs then with the prospect of a pro-daff candidate polling at least 0.0014%! Louisa.
  22. Mrs Robinson? Louisa.
  23. Greetings to one and all. I've missed some of you, it has been far too long. Can anyone please advise me of a place where I could buy a sun hat locally as I am planning on an afternoon in ED park with a deck chair. It is a little late on I know, but I am neither here nor there currently. Any suggestions? Louisa.
  24. Ann - thankyou :)) Brian - a collection of healthy young plants for all of us to be proud of looking at will be something we can celebrate together! iain - I too cannot wait for your child to reach that glorious age of 3, and if I am present when that notorious park daff picking event takes place, I will be looking forward to shaming you for your active encouragement of public vandalism! I will also report you to the park warden and any passing community support officers! Much love! :)) Louisa.
  25. A little late addition here on this one, but I indeed have also been at the sharpe edge of Townley RD during school run times, it angers me beyond belief! That PRIVATE school has it's own land, it could easily put up some decent access gates to allow coaches in and out during the busy hours, this would then free up the PUBLIC HIGHWAY which ALL motorists pay to use! Why should anyone who needs to use this road to get upto Denmark Hill, the Village or westwards to Herne Hill or Brixton be forced to take a longer route just because these coaches decide they wish to park along this road and cause traffic chaos at peak hours? There are so many other options open to the school and coaches but this has now been happening for so many years that it seems we should all just accept it. Luckily I am not a resident of this road or surrounding streets, but if I were I would be up in arms about this. I fully support all local residents who oppose this continued colonisation of this area at key times of the day. DOWN WITH THE COACHES!!! Louisa.
