New French Restaurant On North Cross Road

Sue I am fully in agreement with you on this, the other French option I presume you are referring to is not upto the standard it should be in more ways than one. I think my disappointment with the colour is that I now associate that colour with Cafe Rouge, a restaurant which whilst perfectly adequate, isn't remotely French. The only French 'chain' I like is C?te Brasserie (who should be in this area by now and I am confused as to why they're still not here). Louisa. -

I'm already counting down the days. I love a nice pancake. You can't eat roses, and sentimental chocolates make me heave. Louisa.

Rats amid filth surrounding Sainsburys car park
Louisa replied to grancabrona's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Rats are also regularly seen in the small park opposite Sainsbury's. They will be attracted to areas with food waste, and many people fill up the bins with chicken bones and other crap and then the council fail to empty the bins. Of course it's going to attract wildlife. Louisa. -
I've never received a Valentines Card and nor would I want one. Horrible waste of a tree to gratify a marketing campaign aimed at simpletons. Louisa.

New French Restaurant On North Cross Road
Louisa replied to Zak's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sincerely hope this new restaurant does well. Apart from the horrid red exterior, which is a bit "cafe rouge", the menu seems decent. Let's hope it's better than the other "French" offerings we have locally, overpriced and average at best. Ever since Le Moulin closed, I've been longing for a decent continental eatery. Louisa. -
Why are Walkers the best selling crisps in the UK when....
Louisa replied to DovertheRoad's topic in The Lounge
If you like rare finds of the crisp variety, then a trip to the newsagent in Dulwich Village will not disappoint. They sold ready salted Smith's Chipsticks not so long ago. Not seen them anywhere else in many years. I also quite like Space Raiders, against Mr L's better judgement! Also, not a fan of Walkers. OK with a sandwich, but they try to disguise themselves as a heritage brand when in fact, they've been part of PepsiCo for years, which pretty much wiped out Tudor and Smith's. Louisa. -

I think according to the Southwark planning portal, John Barnett is being given a refurb and extension? Sure I read that somewhere. Louisa.

This story put a smile on my face after a tough few days. Well done you! Louisa.

Who remembers Tavern Snacks? Pub crisps from the 1980's. My snack of choice when I was a regular in the Oglander back in the day! Also, Branigans crisps are still available in Poundland, ham and mustard flavour. Apparently a new restaurant specialising in crisps, has recently opened on Compton Street in Soho. I kid you not! Kwik Fit and Builders Timber Yard (potentially) going
Louisa replied to Zelig's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Or we could invest in housing and infrastructure in other regions to prevent the brain drain to London and the consequent strain on our city as a result. Years of under investment and a wide gap in living standards mean that London continues to grow and outperform every single other region of the UK and whilst we propose to overdevelop our neighbourhoods here, row upon row of good housing stock in Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle remain empty. This country is reaping what it has sewn over decades. Louisa. -
I do hope you do well, the previous tenants were incredible and it will be asking a lot to live upto. Le Moulin was a very well respected local establishment with a loyal following. Still very much missed. Glad to hear the site will be back in use. Louisa.

This sounds awful Karen, I do hope you are recovering well today? This sort of random attack isn't unheard of and there could be any number of reasons, mistaken identity, alcohol, drugs perhaps even mental illness. Whatever the reason, the most important thing is that you reported it. Louisa.

All these things are just symptoms of a massive vacuum in politics. Race and class play a part, and anyone who denies that need only look at the issues which have consistently been exploited by Trump/Farage, issues which have been exposed and open to extreme rhetoric for decades, because no one in the centre ground has attempted to put forward a logical and reasoned argument about the positives of immigration, whilst also acknowledging the strains disproportionately felt in poorer, mostly working class localities. Most people who have these fears (founded or unfounded pick your side), don't really care about where Farage or Trump went to school and how big their respective bank balances are, they just see people talking a language they understand which hasn't effectively been communicated by middle of the road politicians. Simple as that really. Louisa.

Awful loss to the area. A redelivery is fine if you're around all day, but I feel for those who will struggle to find a time to be home. Peckham is a long walk from up here for many and the fact this building is being sold to become (I presume), flats to be sold on the open market makes it tough to swallow for me. Loss of a great convenient service. Louisa.

Just found this near Orpington (Pratts Bottom). http://www.caravantalk.co.uk/caravan-storage/south-east-england/greater-london/norsted-manor-farm_199 Worth sending a message? I know there are many Caravan sites in that vicinity, especially around Biggin Hill. Louisa.

There are many caravan storage parks nearby. Often, a holiday park provides storage facilities for caravans. Or, as Lynne suggests, find someone with a driveway or field who would be happy for you to park it there. Shouldn't cost a huge amount. Louisa.

Settle an argument - was there a Costa in Peckham before?!
Louisa replied to Rowanofski's topic in The Lounge
When I was last in Portugal I went to a small independent cafe and had the best coffee (no sugar or milk needed). I was so impressed, I attempted the same thing at a few of these chains and was left very disappointed. More expensive, and not even close when it came to quality and flavour. My biggest issue with coffee here is the bitterness, something I've never experienced abroad. Louisa. -

Fine, carry on if you get a kick > out of it, but remember you picked up a ban for > similar behaviour on all the gentrification > threads... Firstly, I picked up a ban for deliberate and provocative language aimed at an individual. Not done that here, and certainly haven't mentioned the 'G' word in relation. Plenty of sneers and inflammatory stuff used In the Trump threads, and not a single mention of their negavitivlity from you or anyone else. Once again the biased powers that be pick out someone who doesn't agree with their point. Predictable. If it's 'reactions' you want to talk about here, how about we pick up on FJDGoose and their deliberately provocative attempt to make me rise to their bait? Or did you conveniently not notice that, and just respond to my response to them (arguably over the top, but from my point of view, for good reason). The number of double standards we see on here are shocking, oh and it's finished off with the threat of another ban. Why do I even bother with this forum! Louisa.

RD it isn't a sneer, it's a representation of the minority in ED who find this sort of forum takeover from champagne socialists and students offensive! Thread after thread talking about the same topic. Why is my one thread about the subject so offensive, and yet the other half dozen about the same person aren't? Serious question. Louisa.

Typical tripe I would expect from a quintessential social democrat. Rather than put forward a constructive argument, just blame the majority for voting the way they did and ban them from having a voice. You've made my point for me, thanks! Louisa.

FJDGoose Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > More tripe from Louisa - stirring it up again - > for christ sake give it a rest! Not tripe, the truth. But some on here don't like being told as it is. Including you. Interesting to note, you come into the thread late on with nothing constructive to say, just a nice little personal insult to provoke me. It ain't gonna work, I'm over Donald Trump and petitions! Louisa.

The apolitical thread. Discuss anything but - Please.

Despite a relatively dry month and a bit, the temptation has been too strong and I can confirm I am now back on the juice. Sat in the lounge (literally), supping a very drinkable C?te du Rhone. Happy Friday to one and all! Louisa. -

Never been a chain coffee shop in Peckham until now. No doubt Starbucks will follow. Louisa.
