ED Picturehouse. Elitist*. (Louisa's lounged response)

I don't often do this, but Robert, you are playing up today and I fear you will have to be put back on your reigns again. Louisa. -

*Bob* in your eternal quest to ridicule me and foxy you've failed miserably on this one. MY point is this. If an independent like PeckhamPlex can charge ?4.99 in zone 2 London, why the buggery balls can't the BIG chains do the same? Louisa. -

Foxy I get your point now yes. Some building cannot be saved, or indeed the will to save them just isn't there because it's too expensive and some businesses just want a quick put me up so they can open up ASAP. *Bob* how do you explain the Peckhamplex conundrum then? Inner London, cheap as chips. It's almost like going to Chelsea and buying a one bed flat for 70k. Louisa. -

What a load of crap *Bob*! I've just given great examples of small towns with Art Deco old fashioned style cinemas, who don't charge the earth. Want some more examples? I'll google them. If anything, London is the place that's rammed full of mega retail park cinemas. Louisa. -

Such a shame foxy. It had a beautiful front. These glass cages they create nowadays all look so poor build quality. What is interesting about these smaller semi-indepedent chains is that they set their pricing depending upon location and who is running the franchise. It seems like a good move to me. Much better than a blanket 12 quid across the board. And *Bob* I think I've proved my point! Louisa. -

They also have other Scott Cinema's with even cheaper tickets. Here's another one: http://barnstaple.scottcinemas.co.uk/yourcinema/prices And it has an Art Deco front... http://statics.192.com/estreet/original/large/2255/22555888.jpg Louisa. -

Take a look at this small cinema chain. Scott Cinemas. East Grinstead, Sussex. They offer a bargain Monday of ?5.50 a ticket, and are part of the meerkat 2 for 1 deal. Other offers too. http://eastgrinstead.scottcinemas.co.uk/yourcinema/prices Yes, their cinemas are in cheaper regions than London, but if they can do it, why can't the massive big chain cinemas? Peckhamplex is certainly an outlier for the London area, but that's only because we have gotten used to being ripped off in this city. The big chain cinemas all overcharge - wherever in the country they are. But many small chain cinemas of which I can think of 6 off the top of my head, alongside indepedents, actually do more deals at more competitive pricing. If you exclude the Odeon's, Cineworlds and Vue's et al you will discover that 4.99 is actually a pretty standard price in many smaller UK cinemas outside of London. Granted the overheads are probably lower and they're in cheaper areas to rent, but if they can do it, why can't these massive big chains? Louisa. -
The system allows for strong majorities and weak ones. That's how it works. In 2005 Blair achieved a pretty large working majority on almost two million fewer votes than muppet man got back in May, and he's working with just a handful sized majority. That's how the system works! We had the opportunity to change it with electoral reform, people didn't want it. So the whole argument of the government wasn't elected by all the people is futile, it achieves nothing. It's not going to change anytime soon. We are where we are. Enough people voted for what we currently have to be elected, and we now have to wait for their majority to slip away so that we can change things in five years. Louisa.

Reed's of Peckham! *smiley face* My first record was bought from here! Louisa.
-
So Blah Blah, what do you intend to do about it then? Call another election? As I said, after the horse has bolted. Move on? And if you think celebrities do things just out of the 'good of their heart' you're living on another planet. I guess the publicity they receive isn't doing them any harm either is it? Louisa.
-
Absolutely Loz. The UK parliamentary system is what it is! plurality! Some of these people even claimed to have voted Tory at the election then had a eureka moment and decided to March against austerity. Sorry, but if you are as politically active as you so claim to be, you would have known damn well what the Tory plans were if elected and taken your vote elsewhere! After the horse has bolted-itis seems to be contagious. Louisa.
-
It's not the issue of austerity being raised, that I or anyone else has an issue with. That is of course an important topic we should all be aware of and I applaud these people for at least raising it. But why is it we need 'z' list celebrities jumping on a bandwagon as the voice of such an important issue? Makes a mockery of the whole thing IMO. *edited because the wine really isn't doing my spelling any favours Louisa.

When it first started a solid 5 would have been in order, but it's tedious now, almost as tedious as me (apparently). Louisa.

And good Jennys, I have nothing polite to say about you either, hence why I always take the advice of my dearly departed aunt, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything. Louisa.

What does an Essex man even mean? A Cockney blow-out who blew back in again? Or an authentic country bumpkin Essex person with a distinct accent and heritage in that county? Louisa.

Stop winding me up everyone, I don't like her. Let that be the end of it. Louisa.

Zebedee your dream has come true. Not only am I confined to the lounge, so it seems are genuinely nice contributors like JOHHNYBOY. Anyone with an ED heritage is shoved in here these days. Just for the record, it was edhistory who raised the blow-in agenda this time, not me. And btw I have no choice about whether I am in the lounge or not. Maybe if I start spending the best part of 30 quid on a "treat" for me and Mr Louisa to go to the pictures locally I'll be allowed back into the fold eh? Louisa.

Talking of class. There's nothing classy about her. Whatsoever. Louisa.

Jah I think most of your beloved Charlotte's opinions had their origins inside her rectum and took the reverse route of your beautiful diagram. Nice try though. Louisa.

What's so special about her voice? Plenty of other kids with better voices not given the opportunity she was given. Wouldn't mind if she stuck to just that, but she felt we all wanted to hear her opinions about everything else, including stuff she clearly knows nothing about. Get off your soapbox love, no one is interested. Louisa.

Annoying as a child star, annoying as a chat show host, annoying AND ignorant in equal measure as a 'political' activist. She's got a lot going for herself that girl. Louisa.

JOHNNYBOY please keep posting up on here your website is extremely interesting to me and many other old school residents of ED. Without people like you sharing your memories, this forum would be a very dull place. Seems strange that anything mentioning 'new' stuff for 'new' residents is kept safe and sound in the main section, and yet as old timer ED residents all our stuff gets moved to the lounge. Clearly we aren't that important anymore. Sickening isn't it? Louisa.

Great memories JOHNNYBOY. Some of those photographs feel like they were taken only yesterday. Great to see some input from computedshorty on the input pages. I wonder if you have any photographs of the Italian family who ran an ice cream shop on North cross road in the 1930's? Or the pawnbrokers on the corner of Lacon/North Cross road? Same era. Louisa.
