  1. Just had a read back over those early posts ruffers provided the link to. Great to see DulwichMum and Quaywe posts. Also, one of the unregistered early *Bob* sarcasm bombs. Something about someone jumbling the same 8 words and comparing it to making a conversation with a fruit machine? Snorks in the early years before it all got out of hand too. Life. Louisa.
  2. Absolutely agree Otta. As so many old style pubs close, the customers look elsewhere for the same offering. The few surviving old time boozers will be thriving in a few years from now. I still miss the Oglander (not it's later restaurant incarnation). George, Joey and Eric sat in the corner of the public bar, with tales about the war. Roasties on the bar with smiths crisps a plenty. The castle reminds me of those times. Louisa.
  3. I'm wearing my Diana Dors masque. Louisa.
  4. I think we should have a gathering on goose green. I'll bring some wine and beers. Louisa.
  5. Foxy don't you remember the tram lines on dog kennel hill? Louisa.
  6. I've not been here from day one, I came in towards the end of 2006. One of my first posts was an argument with Keef. Louisa.
  7. Croydon still has trams! Louisa.
  8. But surely that's a matter of opinion? It's one of my favourite roasts I've had locally. But just because it does a great roast on a Sunday, doesn't mean it's wanting to suddenly specialise in food. Louisa.
  9. Hardly busy now in its new guise is it though *Bob*? Louisa.
  10. Let's face it, the new owners, whoever they are, will be concentrating on food, that's the one thing we all know. From my experience, pubs that concentrate on food tend to be gastropubs. They are aimed at a certain demographic. The same happened with the FHT (the rose). Most old customers didn't return. Why can't we just have one or two pubs left where it's all about drinking and not bloody eating. If I wanna eat I do it at home or in a restaurant. Not in a pub. Louisa.
  11. Well I don't think I've personally diverted any threads into a gentrification rant since my rising like a Phoenix from the ashes, following my spat with admin and the consequent lounging. If anything, as you say rah, a thread talking about Foxtons surely is the ideal place for discussing gentrification? I know the White Horse is a separate issue, and we don't know all the details about its takeover yet, but it certainly feels like it's going to be linked in with gentrification. Louisa.
  12. Peckham 2015. Only Fools and Hipsters. Del Boy is living on a yacht off the coast of Marbs after selling his ex council flat for 850k via Foxtons. Lovely jubbly. Louisa.
  13. That's the point Sue. It's a pub, not a restaurant. It's not trying to gain a Michelin star. Louisa.
  14. That's the thing, yes it does have some light hearted amusement attached to it, especially in its early stages. But when it's hitting home and great businesses are changing hands and more importantly being aimed at a different clientele, then it no longer is funny. Where do all the older generation who used this pub go from here if the new look pub is foodie aimed and you're not allowed to nurse a pint at the bar? It's all the little things like that which aren't about being negative, it's about being practical MrBen. I guess they'll have to just jump a cab to Nunhead now. Who cares eh? Louisa.
  15. MrBen from your logic we've had the gentrification debate, so let's brush it under the carpet and pretend it's not happening? Louisa.
  16. FFS why can't anything successful just be left alone? This pub is one of the last proper boozers in the area it wouldn't hurt to leave something be would it? It currently does one of the best roast dinners in the area anyway, whilst retaining itself as a proper locals drinking hole. A very friendly one too. It's a great example to all the other old style pubs that you can be a success without going all gastro. Queue the "Louisa is repeating herself again and hates change" argument. For the record, I don't care if I am. It seems everything that's happening in Peckham at the moment is aimed at pleasing hipsters and estate agents and ?@&$ everyone else. Louisa.
  17. Yes, and possibly been done before too. I couldn't help bandwagon jumping on it though. FYI I didn't fall for the gun thread, however, I loved the name of the forumits who created it though. Very slim pickings tonight in le lounge. It's times like this I wish I was free to run riot in general issues. Louisa.
  18. HMB for a brief second I thought you were being serious! I need to stop drinking this co-op pinot. Does anyone know what is happening with the white Horse? Who has bought it? Louisa.
  19. For goodness sakes it's almost 11pm numbers, I'm a bottle down since 9.30, you really do drive a hard bargain. Louisa.
  20. Yes I heard it too Ladysaw. I have a feeling it was one of those heat censor police jobs on the lookout for either a criminal or a drugs farm. The joys of having Peckham and Camberwell as neighbours. Louisa.
  21. Does anyone know what's happening with the Peckham branch of Foxtons? Is it still happening? Louisa.
  22. Real_Louisa I feel like I'm in a third reality. Are you me? Louisa.
  23. http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/foxtons-installs-metal-antihomeless-spikes-outside-central-london-office-10312907.html Louisa.
  24. You say that foxy but I once had a morrisons value brand kettle for about 5 quid and it lasted for years. Every single branded one I've bought has ended up breaking on me. Mind you I often use them for par-boiling potatoes and after veggies I'm going to roast. Louisa.
  25. I had a Russell Hobbs one from Tesco, failed within 6 months. Had no joy at all. Louisa.
