  1. No-where is quite ED !
  2. I know House of Tippler is charging a tenner, and it includes live music from Soul Immigrants and a glass of bubbly on arrival. Also, there will be free finger food / nibbles from 8-9pm. Open till 3am!
  3. 21 year old Highland Old Pulteney. Delicious!

I think Bellenden Rd area is ok - but nothing great. I rate the Vic Inn, and wish it was in ED. Ganapati is also good. The Begging bowl is very average - food is ok, but service is terrible. Also like the Gowlett for a no-frills pub with great pizza.
  5. I assume these are for the services to London Bridge? Can you also do the same for the opposite direction? This is very useful during silly season!
  6. I think this is the real question ...
  7. It is a lovely place, and its always nice to have more lovely people moving to the area ...
  8. ED station address: Grove Vale, London, SE22 8EF Its not SE15 ...
  9. The Gowlett is a good pub. I have always had a good experience there. Good atmosphere, good beer and great pizza. Nothing overly flash, but it does what it says on the tin. Not too far to walk for me.. Lover..
  10. since when did EDF start replacing google?
  11. Very good points tomdhu: these preventative measures are relatively inexpensive and provide peace of mind. I would also add that most crime is opportunistic, so if your house looks more secure than the next (alarms, sensor lights etc), a burgler is likely to move to another house. Another point I would like to make however, is that burglaries are not on the increase if you look at the latest available statistics in the area. For instance, in the past four reported months, burglaries in the area are well down on last year (www.police.uk): July: 52 v 61 in 2011 (down 15%) August: 38 v 77 in 2011 (down 51%) September: 52 v 62 in 2011 (down 16%) October: 44 v 65 in 2011 (down 32%) I think James Barber mentioned that a gang had been caught earlier this year, which always provides a material drop in the stats. Based on the above website, the crime in ED is also alot lower than you would expect when you compare with other areas of our capital. Its the old adage that the forum makes ED seem like a crime hotspot, but we should use this medium as a form of prevention (i.e. learn from other crime "victims"), but not as a means to scare people. Advice from tomdhu is valuable, but posting on the forum saying "my house has been broken into" without giving details or "crime is getting out of control" doesnt really help without facts. Best to provide information to help catch these people and prevent future crimes, so we can all be on the lookout. Being a victim of crime is terrible, but if we keep an eye out for our neighbours and use preventative measures, I am sure we can further reduce burglaries in 2013.
  12. Another piece talking up ED ... towards the bottom of the article: http://www.homesandproperty.co.uk/property_news/smart_moves_and_new_homes/bloomsburysbedfordestaterevitalised.html
  13. It seems this has been going on for almost two years now: http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Internet-security/Scam-phone-call-about-viruses-on-my-PC/td-p/453539 http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Internet-security/phone-scam/td-p/1338544 http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Internet-security/Virgin-Media-phone-scam/td-p/1537948 Thanks for the heads up !!
  14. People are losing their jobs and the economy is not showing signs improvement for a while. If dirty streets are the biggest worry for people, then feel very lucky! More people should be like fuzzyboots: It probably takes just as much time to write these messages as it would to grab your broom and sweep the leaves from the front of your house.
  15. Clapham Common is just a carbon copy of every high street in the UK. There are certain pockets of Clapham that are ok, but its mostly overvalued and overrated. In terms of better transport, I disagree. The Northern line is a nightmare to travel on, and the trains at Clapham Junction are rammed in peak. While our trains are less frequent, the experience is far better than the tube or SW Trains. ED is just nicer and far less "cluttered".

  17. 60 minutes should be ok early morning, but would allow 75mins (90 mins if you dont want the stress).
  18. Woops, I have done the same spark67. Its a long way back from St Albans ...
  19. Agree. I use a local window cleaner, and they only ask for cash after the job is done - never in advance. Take their photo next time and post it on here!

I wasnt focusing on the elderly or disabled: mostly the lazy. It annoys me how much "able" people dive for a seat for short train rides. The ability to stand is a gift. I am not too old (yet), but when I badly injured my leg and could hardly walk, I agree that no-one gives a hoot about you. I was actually asked to get up by one lady on the odd occasion I got a seat, and happily got up as I assumed she may be pregnant. She felt so stupid when she saw my struggle to get to my feet when there were younger people sitting around me.
  23. I do laugh at people who get on at PR/DH and complain they dont get a seat. Unless you are travelling to Luton, then you are likely to be standing for only 15 minutes. Given most of you probably sit on your backside all day, I am sure it cant be too painful! If the trains terminate at Blackfriars, its likely to be a short wait to change for a train heading north. Life could be worse ...
