  1. Its pretty obvious really. With record low interest rates, many people have had an opportunity to save over the past few years. Also, those who have recently sold have got a nice little jump in their property price - increasing the equity and hence the cash available to buy up the chain. Finally, mortgage availability has increased dramatically in the last year; with deposits required dropping due to incrasing compeition from lenders. Simple.
  2. Just another day in Peckham ...
  3. The building is an eyesore, and anything the buyer can do to improve the site would be great. It is a deceptively big site, so not surpised it went for alot of money. Mixed retail/residential would be good. Waitrose/M&S downstairs and two floors of flats above. Done.
  4. I have had issues in the past. My response has been to get a lower quality bike, and equip it with more protective equipment (see photo). Needless to say, I havent had any problems since.
  5. There are plenty of options in and around the station. Most of the better restaurants are on Wilton Rd. Failing that, there is Cardinal Place that also has some options.
  6. So MrBen, who was selling at the time for these people to trade up? Do tell. Because of a lack of mortgages at the lower end, the market ground to a halt. Unless you had to sell, you didnt. Those who did have their houses on the market were never going to offer a cheap price, as there were not many forced sellers due to the low interest rate environment. So, its a great theory - but in reality its not exactly that simple.
  7. Yes. Most able sighted people could probably see them. They have been there for a few years now. What's your point? (here comes yet another dog poo thread)
  8. I wonder if there is a similar scheme being used in ED? http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/jailed-burglar-caught-red-handed-raiding-north-west-london-trap-house-9066785.html A great idea if you ask me!

The original comment was pointed at those who buy, sell and develop property. I actually agree - in my dealings, these people tend to be focused on making money, no matter what. The pension comment is unrelated; besides, most of us own property that is probably worth more than 5%-10% of our pensions. Especially if you own in ED ;-) Anyway, moving on. Rather than get into a legal battle and waste time and money - like previous posters have suggested, lets try and find an alternative location in ED. Preferably on NCR, but there are a few vacant properties that could be investigated.
  10. I think sharing makes more sense. The small ones are mostly sufficient, but in summer the lawn clippings tends to make it much tighter. I find the green bin is too big as well. The size of the blue one (while unsightly) is required.
  11. ED should stand up against this apathy! Lets flush the area of real agents by not using them. Cut out the middle man and keep the profits for yourself! And no more signs.
  12. Have you thought about giving some of it to charity?

From my experience, real estate agents base their business on a one-shot game, especially when it comes to buying. They generally arent intelligent enough to realise the same person may give them repeat business in the future. Thats why they are real estate agents.

  15. Its very unlikely the Real Estate Agent will take it down. Its free advertising for them! There is another thread from 2013 with more views here: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1026238,1026377
  16. I agree with Townleygreen, Toldyouso and bloodyjon. The Park is the best and most efficient way to deal with flood relief. I much prefer an open green space to be temporarily underwater than have homes flooded. I am thinking most sports would be called off if there was such a big flood, as surrounding parks would be waterlogged anyway. If this option indeed works and saves homes from flooding, then why spend a huge amount of money on artificial drainage when funds are desperately needed elsewhere.
  17. Agree - they are some of the more useful shops on the Lane. I use all of them on a regular basis. Count the Curry Houses on the Lane - there are many more than three (not that its a bad thing). If only there were only three Real Estate Agents !
  18. I am guessing Mike Dodd is not going to vote.
  19. Vote for Britain?s favourite market. Voting closes on 13 January. http://www.nabma.com/vote/

  21. I think you will find most of London is increasing at a rapid rate. Forest Hill and others around ED are also benefitting. Its about what you can afford, and dont forget to allow for interest rates to increase by at least 3% in the next 5 years.
  22. I never thought of late trains being "horrific", "out of control", or "a mess". The descriptions above make me picture carriages strewn all over the approaches to the station. Sounds like a real war zone. Tubes are worse. Thank god we dont have to deal with the tube everyday.
