Email me the full details and I will try and get this sorted. Have fixed several such dire situations before. Some quickly and some still ongoing - fingers crossed yours will fall in the former category!

Great news the target reached. Well done them. Hi Louisa, Yes the original Peckham Lido did close all those years ago. Probably the same council officers that while Lib Dems led the council kept telling us every year to close Camberwell Library and Leisure centre to save money. Brockwell Lido is popular and fun and really trying to serve it local community and I'm sure a Peckham Lido would do the same very successfully. For transparency I'm fortunate enough to make a small contribution to this funding raising for the full feasibility, planning permission, etc.

Path finally cleared earlier this week - thank for pointing it out to me. I even bought some secateurs thinking I might have to do it. It also transpires the council has no planned maintenance work for such paths. Another thing to fix! Hi uncle glen, Siduhe, Yes. 2012 introduced centralised charging for water bills/rates. So instead of 45,000 separate water bills to count tenants that this charge be made via their council housing rents. The council received a discount which they used to cover the costs of administering the billing, debt management etc on behalf of Thames Water. It transpires this charge was illegal - it also looks high for what was involved. This practice being common amongst councils. Having confirmed people were wrongly charged the process for making water refunds has started over the weekend of 2 and 3 July. If tenants are in arrears, the credit will either partially or fully offset those arrears and any residual sum (over a minimum value of ?10) will be refunded by cheque. Where an individual?s rent arrears exceeds the refund due, no cash refund will be payable. Southwark Council are currently consulting with tenants regarding the future relationship with Thames Water. -
Trains cancellations - latest

The four week timetable seems at best optimistic. Southern have said they are introducing Driver Only Operated (DOO) trains in remaining parts of the network that don't have them at the end of August. We only have this type locally. So I'd be amazed if the temporary timetable doesn't extend beyond that. I hope I'm wrong. My understanding is that the revised timetable is to eliminate any driver overtime and hurt them in their pockets as a counter to the huge increase in odd sick days designed to not fall fowl of illegal strikes. Clearly both sides of this dispute have forgotten who pays for them all - customers/tax payers. It is a power struggle. The problem appear to be pain now for longer term reduced operating costs reducing the need for fair rises. The RMT cite loss of jobs and safety reduction. It does seem odd that so many DOO trains can operate here and aboard without obvious issues. To fight this they're involving all RMT staff hence the impacts on our area. But introducing DOO trains should just be about sensible negotiations between Southern and the RMT. RMT must appreciate the writing is on the wall. Southern must understand the damage to customers. Both appear not. What Southern should do as a minimum is provide buses to supplement the huge reduction in timetabled trains locally. -

It is 3 trains during the whole morning 'rush hour' so effectively 1tph. I've spoken to GLA Assembly Member Caroline Pidgeon. I've asked can TfL provide an emergency express bus service such as an X40 bus service. We both think government needs to transfer this train franchise to TfL ASAP. TfL appear far more competent at running trains services than Southern Exec who appear out of their depth. And if the Govt are trying to union bash at least be publicly honest about this so we all know where we stand. -
Ultra low emissions zone
James Barber replied to TheArtfulDogger's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We clearly have an air pollution scandal killing around 10,000 people prematurely each year. It makes lots of sense to resolve this more quickly = proposal to bring it forward from 2020 to 2019. It also means the measures wont be introduced when Saddiq is up for re election in 2020. What I wouldn't agree with is all the 90% or 100% discounts proposed. Do have your say on the consultation - http://talklondon.london.gov.uk/homes-spaces/environment/discussions/expanding-ultra-low-emission-zone -

Hi Monkey, Yes I am. Ghastly situation. I've asked GLA Assembly Member Caroline Pidgeon - who also relies on East Dulwich Southern train services - whether TfL could provide express buses a la X40 while Southern in such chaos. She has already asked if the Government could accelerate bringing this train franchise under TfL control. It seems Southern execs are out of their depth handling this dispute. The Government/Dept for Transport wish to break the RMT union on this. However it does seem very strange to have such a chronic dispute over changing the role of conductors. This is the 21C and the train network have working practices from the steam age. -
Free swim and gym - Southwark residents
James Barber replied to pecksniff's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The electoral promise was free swim and gym - not caveats or small print for that electoral promise. So the catch is it comes with only a narrow window when the pool and gym are usually pretty empty. No expansion in facilities for opening hours to provide increased capacity to support this. -
But we know the government isn't minded to have a second referendum. So the EDM is great posturing but as shown by how few have signed up to support it a diversion. However it is likely a vote on whether to trigger Article 50 will occur. The lawyers are currently arguing over this. So will Helen vote for or against Article 50 being invoked? If she is as passionate on this as claimed then an easy one to answer.

Hi Penguinpost, I was under the impression 2 trains per hur but either way beyond grim. Throughout I'v been in regular contact with Lib Dem GLA Assembly Member Caroline Pidgeon. She experiences this first hand every day as she lives locally and commutes by train to City Hall between East Dulwich and London Bridge stations. I'll come back to you later with more specifically what we can do. -
Hi Blahblah, 3 days before the referendum I watched an interview with tom Watson the Labour deputy leader saying he thought freedom of movement would have to end. He was officially campaigning for remain but with such statements effectively saying the opposite. I don't think pointing this out is stirring. The question for me is will Helen vote for article 50 to be issued to the EU or against when parliament takes a vote on it.

Southwark Council leaseholders new front door
James Barber replied to VOXPOP's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi VOXPOP, Please email me direct we'll try and get such a daft policy changed. Typical Southwark Council sledgehammer. -
Hi Abe-froeman, Yes generally - but still a significant number speed. The alternative to kerb buildouts was copping these mature trees down. We wanted to avoid this. This stretch of road is the busiest section or road in SE22 without traffic effective traffic calming. Residents in lots of other roads have had this with less speeding and less volume of traffic. Hi d.b., TO make such a crossing we'd need to put extra dropped kerbs. We'd need to ensure people didn't park in front of such dropped kerbs with double yellow lines. Same amount of parking would be lost and we'd inconvenience people walking along the road. Hi first mate, You've watched too many dodgy movies. No councillor is talking about closing this road. This idea was floated early on but we've all listened to resident feedback and it is not on the agenda. I and 5 other councillors agreed we needed to respond to residents requests as we have for all other such roads in the area - and agreed to upgrade the poor out of date traffic calming. Not sure why we should penalise these residents for being on the last section of such road. The next step is to find a way to clam the northern section of Melbourne Grove.

Voting - Low Turnout in SE22 apparently
James Barber replied to kford's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The petition is just over 4 million supporters. We just need to exceed 17 million... -
Hi NewWave, I think Helen faces a dilemma which many of us wouldn't. Her constituents voted overwhelmingly for remain and she has stated she shares this view. Sounds simple enough. But if she has ambitions beyond being a 'just' a local MP she may be closing those down if she upsets her national party and if it has a strategy of going along with the referendum result. Some Labour MP's have now publicly stated they do not want free movement of people, a pre requisite of remaining in the EU. So I think she's now keeping her options open. Not what I or you would do.

Advanced Cycle Lane Box Removed Grove Tavern
James Barber replied to hertburs's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This is the response form TfL I've received via Caroline Pidgeon's office - success: " Dear Caroline Thank you for your email. I can confirm arrangements are being made to re-install the Advanced Stop Line with the feeder lane. The works will be completed in early July. In the meantime, please extend our apologies to Cllr Barber for any confusion caused by our previous emails on this matter. Kind regards " -

The response I had yesterday is the head of leisure will investigate as clearly contrary to stated council policies. My expectation is the cafe sells much healthier fare. I hope it won't take long to organise this. patt1980 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi James, > > I just posted this on another thread about the new > gym operators but wondering who I can talk to > about the re-fit of the cafe Everyone Active have > done there. Flood defences in Dulwich and Belair Parks
James Barber replied to Robert Poste's Child's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Burbage, The flood defences are to protect all residents. The next priority has been a review of East Dulwich and Peckham Rye areas and I have fed in all the flooding casework I've had, and Cllr Rosie Shimell since 2010, for the area since I became a councillor in 2006. -
Hi Renata, 16 & 17 years olds were excluded and have been since Lib Dems made our first promise to enfranchise them what must be 20 years ago is because Tories know they're more likely to vote other than Tory. If they were allowed to vote in this referendum it would increase the likelyhood of a future general expectation that they have the vote. Tories didn't care in Scotland referendum because they'd given up on winning there. Hi uncleglen, I don't think that's true. A number of politicians are publicly members of the British Humanist Society who campaign against religious schools and we have seen some recent successes on school admissions.

Flooding and council liability question
James Barber replied to ClaphamMum's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi ClaphamMum, You should talk to your insurers about this. They will know if they can sue the council to recover their costs. IF you're not insured then if the damages you've injured are ?10,000 or less then your could sue the council via the Small Claims Court process.
