"Dulwich" signs are cheaper than "East Dulwich".

Hi nxjen, I would represent the constituents of Dulwich and West Norwood who overwhelmingly voted, whatever their political background and none, to remain. Fullstop. Other areas of the country that voted to leave have their own MPs to vote that way. To oil the parliamentary wheels to leave. I would also use every political tool to remain at my disposal. As indeed would people who wanted to leave if the tables were turned. That is why people vote for you to be an MP. To fight for your area. And I would fight tooth and nail on this issue. Even talking about leaving will be causing unemployment, less investment, a possible recession, a less stable world. We've even heard of increases in racism. Fighting these via fighting the prospect of leaving is what I would do. This is to important to be nice cosy parliamentarians about.

I'd be amazed if we don't have a general election this Autumn - new Tory and quite possibly new Labour leaderships. My lot will stand on a platform of not leaving the EU and if we have left of re entering. As our MP I'd imagine Helen is meant to represent her constituency. Dulwich and West Norwood voters of all political persuasions and none overwhelmingly voted to Remain. I find it strange our MP doesn't want to represent that view.

I thought I'd updated people a while back they'd shifted opening to August. Dulwich is rather unfortunate as it isn't a descriptive to location as East Dulwich. But Sainsburys on Dog Kennel Hill claims to be their Dulwich store.

Voting - Low Turnout in SE22 apparently
James Barber replied to kford's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi ford, The Remain campaign didn't run a full telling operation so what they said was a script to try and motivate you to get out and vote. Saying that the overall turnout across Southwark was low at 66% compared to Lambeth next door. Labour Lambeth were wholly campaigning for IN. Southwark Labour we were told by the Remain campaign were split down the middle and relatively by them little was done. In East Dulwich ward we've delivered circa 45,000 leaflets including GLA election ones which all had Remain stories in them and three round of specific IN leaflets. We've made 2,500 voter contacts in the last 6 weeks about the referendum with remain at 77%. What didn't help is the Remain campaign telling us they had agreed with Dulwich & West Norwood Labour party we were only wanted in Coldharbour ward! -
You would not believe how much effort Cllr Rosie Shimell, former cllr Jonathan Mitchell and I have gone to get that church used rather than Heber School. We had a chair lift installed for example three years ago. Fingers crossed everyone is happy for it to become a permanent polling station replacing Heber School?

James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Patt1980, I've contacted the lead councillor Barrie Hargrove about this. I've also received two emails along the same lines as your comment. Lets see what Barrie says he'll do to fix this. -

Yes I can help. I've several different items of casework for different problems with a number of different local GP practices. But please email me and I will then go to chair of the CCG. pigglemarex Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi James > > Can you help with the following:- > > I am sure you have noticed that there are a lot of > little poeple in East dulwich! > > My 3 month old daughter is a patient at the > Gardens. Hi Duvaller, Yes planning enforcement should be engaged - [email protected] I'm sorry DHFC haven't responded. Let me raise both issues with council officials. If you'd like to be copied into this please email me at [email protected] -
I have a query with council officers why we can;t deploy ground anchors in the road. I've seen this in Westminster City Council area for motorbike parking. Nothing to stop us having this in East Dulwich other than would we have sufficient demand to justify, will the council let us do this? You can always raise the issue via a local councillor - we often do get more traction with officialdom.

Please email me directly and I will get this sorted - it may take a couple of weeks. can you tell me who in each organisation you contacted and when.

If you know anyone voting from abroad the second post out can;t arrive in time - they would need to organise a proxy vote.

If any other streets want to organise a street party - still plenty of summer left - then do get in touch. For those that have had a street party why not keep the spirit going by holding a some Play Street events - close your street again for a couple of hours each month to leet your kids play on the street - again get in touch if interested.

Weather just about worked out. I had to visit some but behind with delivering IN leaflets from the mornings rain.

No I've not heard more and nor has AM Caroline Pidgeon. I'll ask her if she can escalate this. -
Hi John K, What legal covenant? Do you have a copy of it please? Regards James.

I have an update. Southwark Council are obtaining a quote for new signs to match the website stated opening times so the physical signage and online signage match. No clear timescales of when this will be fixed but council officers are on the case.

Hi Duvalier, You're referring to the private car parking controlled by Dulwich Hamlet Football Club that has a car wash at home end. I think you're also referring to the tiny car park facing onto Abbotswood Road. I'm not clear who owns that one. But all the land was once Kings College sports ground so unlikely Southwark Council land. The owners are responsible for ensuring their land is kept in good condition. They have a public duty to keep it safe - especially for children. unattended land can cause greater levels of anti social. in the first instance you should ask the club when they plan to tidy this eyesore up - [email protected] I'll also ask council environment officers what if anything they can do about the public dangers of this private, but open to the public, car park. -
Insufficient visual harm - what do you think?
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi sizemore, If someone did paint or add something else on such an illegal advertisement would that be or not be a criminal act? It appears council officers won't act unless it causes visual harm. Someone could have some fun with this... -
former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?

Some time ago I was asked about the right turn East Dulwich road into Peckham Rye. I have a reply that indeed the right filter is broken: " There are no current faults at this site, which suggests that the detector calling in the right turn is functioning correctly. However, whilst I haven?t been able to visit site I have watched the staged sequence from the office and I can see the right turn filter doesn?t come in very often so I?ve asked our maintenance contractor to check the alignment of this equipment. I?m afraid that I do not have a timescale for when this is likely to be completed. I will also not be provided with a report, or in deed be notified of when this has been completed but I?ll check our system and see what feedback there is. " My hunch is within a fortnight it will be fixed. -
I think you're confusing planning permission with the actual building of things. Most developers get planning permission and then sell the scheme on. Or they bank it for a few years. Developers rarely have in house construction and building capacity. They rely on contractors being professional. So the system won't consider putting any planning application 'in 'ice. I'd also suggest that the court system we have will mean many years of legal wrangles. Which is why it was such good news about the homes coming under NHBC insurance meaning that legal wrangles can happen in parallel and into the future without delaying actually fixing and replacing homes.

Hi Kibris, You mean longer opening times when the small indie shops are all closed? How on earth does that help them? The Planning Permission condition allows them to be open from memory: Monday to Friday - 07:00-22:00 Saturday - 08:00-21:00 Sundays & Bank holidays - 10:00-18:00. Residents are entitled to have down time. These hours are significantly longer than what went before and almost exactly match the Coop.
