  1. Disco didn't die in 82/83 It had a little nap maybe and came back a couple of years later as House music!!
  2. Isn't there quite a difference between taking action to stop a crime in progress and meting out punishments like some kind of suburban Judge Dredd? Just saying...
  3. That's the point of MPH surely. It's a bit of middle ground. I quite like it. The French House and Cave de Bruno are both very welcome additions though. I hope both businesses prosper and are around for a long time.
  4. James, Tessa Jowell's letter seems to be wholly supportive of your position, yet your main comment is to pick her up on an apparent spelling mistake. Could you not find anything more positive to say in response to that? Duncan ETA oh by the way, you mis spelled mis spelling - is that deliberate irony? "Tessa has miss spelled Michael as Michail and crossed out the Sincerely in Yours Sincerely. Not a great start to extracting something from the man. "
  5. Who has told you that you will need a new offer? If it's the agent or the vendor they're not really best placed to tell you that, so you should ask Abbey if that's the case. I don't see why you would need a new offer. A valuation report has been completed by a lender approved surveyor and that is the figure that they are lending against surely, not the price you agree to pay the vendor. Tread carefully either way. Vendors in the current market will feel that they are in position of strength and won't be inclined to reduce the price at a late stage in the sale. All survey reports tend to be quite pessimistic to avoid comeback. Is the current wiring a hazard or just in need of updating? Good luck!
  6. Just for clarity, am I right in understanding you're talking about a grown man here?
  7. Honey is a seasonal product which is harvested late summer/early autumn, so local small-scale producers may not have any stock left at this time of year. Good luck finding some, and please post to let me know who has any if you find some. Failing that, good quality British honey might be your best bet.
  8. Hire bikes and cycle round the city walls - it's lovely
  9. Why's that then Edcam???
  10. Hilarious comments like Gray's aside... East Dulwich is a completely different vibe to West Dulwich. It's a great area and very family friendly. There are two lovely parks, Dulwich and Peckham Rye, plus a few other smaller ones. The 'High Street' isn't Shoreditch, Islington or Clapham (even), but does still have a nice inner London feel to it with some interesting cafes, pubs, shops etc... Plus if you work in the City, transport from ED is much better that WD. Also consider roads in SE15 north of East Dulwich Road, but south of Peckham Road. It's very similar to East Dulwich. West Dulwich is okay but much less going on and less good transport.
  11. I'd have thought it was pretty clear that they're not committing to this, otherwise they would have said so by now. Could anyone tell me which other businesses operating in the area commit to paying LLW - I'd be happy to give them business where I could.
  12. We have recently bought a Siemens induction hob and are very pleased with it. I don't agree there are no downsides though. You need to replace some/most/all of your pans, and also any ovenware you may wish to use on the hob; the heat only works when the pan is flat down on the hob, so you need to get used to that. The positives outweigh these drawbacks though. It's super easy to clean - it's just a 'glass' plate that needs wiping, it's much safer with children as the induction points don't get that hot, and (ours) switch off when there's no pan on them. It's faster to heat up, and supposed to be cheaper - I haven't measured this.
  13. Fair enough, but the police are really there for criminal matters, and I can't see anything up to the point when he ran away which could be construed as criminal. It's an offence to not share your details after an accident, but to dispute liability or not to agree to pay unspecified damages at the roadside is not. And as other posters have observed, the road user who goes into the back of the other is normally the one held liable.
  14. Why was she calling the police anyway? Had a crime been committed?
  15. Hi Alaska, Yes, that does seem good value based on what we have been quoted. Cheers Duncan
  16. Hi Julie, We're in the same position, except only putting wardrobes in the main bedroom. We have had Spacemakers, Hammonds and Strachan round to measure up and quote. They all seem to offer a different grade of product and are priced accordingly (in the order I list them) We haven't looked at Sharps. I understand their product is front and sides fixed to the wall, not a full four-sided wardrobe. We're still undecided and would welcome any comments or feedback on these or other providers.
  17. "Hi LondonMix - I really do think you and I are mainly having a conversation that no one else is interested in and that some of what we are discussing would be better dealt with by PM . If anyone wants to endorse this sentiment please feel free " Hear hear! - I am following this thread as I have a (vested) interest in the new school. I'd like my children to have a decent local secondary school to go to. I'm sure either Charter or HA could provide that so would be happy with either. HA seem to have the lead so good luck to them. I am not interested in endless bickering about the finer points of the admissions criteria. edited for typo
  18. Yes, shocking. The organisers need to take responsibility for it, ultimately.
  19. Possibly, but they're quite different concepts. Min wage is compulsory, LLW is not. Therefore firms that consider adopting it may well feel they would be making their cost base uncompetitive.
  20. I was that cyclist - I escaped unscathed! I still cycle that route, sometimes late into the evening and have had no problems since. I think a bit of common sense will see you just fine. It's an alley at the side of a social housing estate in Camberwell. Act accordingly.

I grew up near there, and Malory - as was - was always a problematic school.
  22. All this bickering is quite unedifying. We need a new secondary school and James and his steering group have grasped the initiative. I am sure most parents, like me, would be delighted with either a new Charter or HA school on the proposed site. They both have consecutive outstanding Ofsted reports and appear to be great schools. The recent debate about inclusivity and admissions would simply not be an issue if we had a enough places at good/outstanding schools - and a new six-form entry school would address that. James, his steering group and the hundreds of parents (inc myself) who have stated their support seem to have the march on this, but if Charter also want to bid, let them get on with it.
  23. OK - these things do happen Be careful out there :)
  24. I cycle through there mornings and evenings at the moment. Didn't see anything this morning - may have been a different part of the park or time.
