  1. Massively off the thread there Blah Blah - who else is talking about people abusing children? Why do you take that statement in such absolute terms, or as saying the parent in this instance is beyond reproach? I think you have read a bit too much into that one. "as after all you are his dad and know what is best for him. No one else has the right to tell you otherwise" And the world is full of parents that also think they know what is best for their kids when they abuse them. To suggest that being a parent automatically makes a person beyond reproach is nonsense. Not relevant to the parent in question here I know, but just thought the point should be made. You can't talk in such absolute terms.
  2. From today's Guardian: There is no scientific case for homeopathy: the debate is over Pharmacists who sell homeopathic remedies as anything other than placebos are putting their customers? health at risk The promotion of homeopathy is not ethical. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/mar/12/no-scientific-case-homeopathy-remedies-pharmacists-placebos
  3. They are both brilliant, so either. But NHM probably nudges it. Get there early if you can as they both get v busy
  4. I've been to the NYC one. I don't remember it being expensive for a destination restaurant... I do remember it being very nice tho
  5. Otta - Speaking only for myself, I do have a concern over the admissions criteria, but it's not based on my kids' ability to get on a bus.
  6. Congratulations to all those involved in the Charter bid - This is great news. Well done and thank you also to those who led and contributed to the Habs bid. This was my preferred choice, but only by a a narrow margin. With regards to the admissions criteria, I'm not sure I have understood the argument for a nodal criteria properly. In terms of there being a black hole to the east of Lordship Lane, are these areas not now served by the two Harris schools? I understand that although these schools are both rated outstanding, they are not everyone's first choice for varying reasons. So if it's about choice, how does the choice of one family impact on the choice/options of another family who would like that school (the new Charter), live close to it, but miss out in favour of someone who lives further from the school but closer to a notional nodal point? Am I missing something? Edited to correct typo
  7. So just for the avoidance of doubt, what is it about this Ofsted rated Outstanding school that caused you such feelings of despair?
  8. I would have thought that an 11yr + child could walk from anywhere within the de facto catchment of Charter. We live well outside of that and our six year old attends Bessemer Grange (v close to Charter) - he manages to walk that every day.
  9. Beckenha, Leisure Centre - small pool only.
  10. 'Rum and Sugar' is good for this at weekends. It's part of the same building and interconnected with the Docklands branch of the Museum of London. The restaurant itself is spacious and generally not that busy so doesn't cause a problem if the kids are getting up and wandering around - plus the museum has a soft-play you can duck out to if needed, although I think you might need to reserve a place on arrival for a time-slot. http://www.rumandsugar.co.uk/
  11. We moved recently and Foxtons hardly had anything in SE22, but they did seem to have a few properties up into SE15/SE5. Maybe they are thinking of chopping in the LL branch and replacing it with this?? Also they have something like 50 branches and have an expansion plan, so once they have secured branches in the most desirable areas, they have to work their way down. So having a Foxtons in your neighbourhood may not have quite the same cache (if you see it that way) as it once did...

That's not true is it! I think it's more like one a year nationally.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-30776062 One of the two parks in the clip is definitely Peckham Rye - is the other Dulwich Park?
  14. I could see the fireworks from my bedroom window and it was quite an impressive display. I think it was a professional multi-shot kit that was being used and I would guess they cost several hundred pounds each. So given that it wasn't an organised display I would guess that someone has acquired/nicked one of these and then let it off late at night on the common for a laugh. Could be wrong of course...
  15. And a lack of enforcement...
  16. It must have been really bad for you to post that onto three separate inactive threads! My boy, now six, has his haircut there and we have always had a good experience there.
  17. So despite reservations based on previous experience at different branches, decided to try out the new Evans store to get my bike serviced yesterday evening. Won't be making that mistake again. Good luck!
  18. I can recommend Tricia of 'Portrayed' she is excellent http://www.portrayedphotography.co.uk/ I have no knowledge of her availability.

  21. We got our six year old boy a stop/go animation kit for his birthday recently. It combines the irresistible lure of computer screens with the real-world aspect of making and moving the models to create the film. The one we bought was called Hue but there are other ones out there as with everything.
  22. That route is already v popular with cyclists. It's straighter and quieter than Lordship Lane so it's a no-brainer. I doubt being made part of a designated cycle route would have much effect either way.
  23. The Grove would be a good enough location for a hotel, as long as guests don't want to have easy access to a train station and are happy being a 15/20 min walk from the main hubub of ED
  24. "If it was done properly by the same independent body DuncanW refers to, then possibly but it would be complicated and is not really necessary." Not me!
  25. I'm pleased that these workers will be earning more money and understand that even on LLW they won't be on Easy Street financially. Just as an FYI, if any of them are still finding things difficult, they are hiring where I work. It's a sales job, so they might find the work tough-going and monotonous at times. It's a long day, there is pressure to hit targets, and it can often seem like a thankless task, especially while you're learning the ropes. They don't demand previous sales experience, although it is preferred. Commission is paid but the basic salary is above LLW. Anyone who is interested can PM me for more detail.
