yeah, don't be mean welcome CYPRIOT TURK - people are making funnies because your posting was all in upper case (which is kind of like shouting in forum speak) - don't worry about it

they're just keeping up - other stations started it - they're trying to draw in the crowds don't sweat it - there's still the Today programme and a great website

I'm a monkey's uncle who's a cousin to a chimpanzee. I was thinking of taking my story either to Jeremy Kyle or Pick Me Up magazine, but if you could get me a makeover for the photo, I'd be very happy to give you an exclusive.

Recycling boxes (please stop nicking them)
RosieH replied to TJ's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's not just people nicking them - the recyclers sometimes just shove them back any old where and not necessarily in the garden whence they plucked them. As a consequence we've lost many a recycling bag, but when I've been in the house and on my guard, I have nipped out and reclaimed while the lorry was still a distant rumble by the Rye. Be wary, be alert, be nimble - and yours shall be the recycling receptacles. -
Nice work taper - living proof that Pascal's wager may have some merit!

Lovely Ladies:A Question re: Your Future Husbands "ex"
RosieH replied to Tony.London Suburbs's topic in The Lounge
Yes, TLS, I'm inclined to think that as the dinner party situation has only just arisen, is as was posted early on, a fallout from the wedding situation. I really really do think that on this your friend needs to give his fiancee her way over the wedding. You talk about fair, but how fair is it that on the so-called happiest day of her life, he feels ok about making her uncomfortable and unhappy in having his ex there? Of course you're on his side, you're his friend, but in asking where's the compromise on her part, answer where's the compromise on his? Let's face it, we all know that our partners have a romantic and sexual past, but mostly we prefer to push that slightly uncomfortable fact to the back of our minds. But when you're getting married, you don't want the woman your beloved loved so much that he married her first sitting on the groom's side. The resolution for the dinner party situation can come after they're married, but in showing no flexibility on the wedding, he's pushing his bride to be into a corner where the only way she can exert her power is by not going to the dinner party. -
Lovely Ladies:A Question re: Your Future Husbands "ex"
RosieH replied to Tony.London Suburbs's topic in The Lounge
I think annaj summed it up perfectly: wife #2 may be paranoid and there may be no threat whatsoever from wife #1 but ultimately, the wedding day is hers and not wife #1's. She gets to be a princess for the day and if the presence of the other woman puts a dampener on her mood then she's well within her rights to ask for her not to be invited. One point to note is that men are often oblivious to the subtle bitchiness and powerplays of some women in a group dynamic - there may be very good reason why wife #2 doesn't want her there that her fiance is wholly unaware of. -

Men get to wear socks instead of tights, > that's got to be a major saving surely?? quite right - I nearly had a heart attack last time I settled up at the hairdressers. With the credit crunch and all I might need to desert my regular in favour of someone a bit cheaper. Add to that waxing, make up and sanitary products (which aren't even VAT-free) and I think a fella paying ?30 for a haircut is a bargain.

?30 haircuts and no "feminine items" to buy... That said, fellas do tend to get their hair cut more often so maybe it balances out a bit?

I have googled it and apparently Timelords can get more regenerations - apparently The Master was granted extra regenerations for fighting in the Time War. That's a sentence I never thought I'd type. I've gone over to the dark side. Anyway, Moffatt wrote the best episodes of the last few series, and Matt Smith seems to be a good actor so I'm not worried. (apart from about what has happened to my street cred)

ha ha, brilliant - indiepanda, your knowledge of the doctor's capacity for regeneration makes me feel better about my own geekiness...

Matt Smith - he was in Party Animals. The youngest Who ever (he's 26) With his moody side swept hair he looks like he might have emo appeal, or at the very least score himself a loreal ad deal. New Who

Are you excited? I'm excited. Although I feel a bit pervy in fancying a Dr Who who is younger than me. I know I'm a geek for being excited about this. I'm cool in other ways, honest I am (oh god the game's up, I liked The Silmarillion too). Anyway, yay.

Door knocking scammers again on St Aidan's?
RosieH replied to Crystal Tips's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
No worries eater81, sorry was only kidding you. But am not good with the smilie faces (I say not good, but really I mean I hate using them) so hopefully that came across and I didn't offend you. Do think the glass eye thing though is a work of genius - tell the story, beg for a pound, then hold your eye out towards the scammee - who can resist! Oh and thanks Moos for the vote of funny. I try, I try -

really, you mean it wasn't real? man, do I feel stoopid - taken for a ride or what - that pound was not merited, I was robbed! eater81, any chance you work for a university researching "does headbanging give you a headache" or "men with tiny penises drive flash cars"? -
Bookshop out Card shop in!
RosieH replied to Richard Weekes II's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Richard Weekes II - if you don't mind my saying, you seem a bit obsessed with bookshops. What gives? Why does your wishful thinking extend to a children's book shop? How many bookshops do you think an area the size of east dulwich can support? I don't get it. We have established that there are two bookshops in the area that sell children's books, im amongst other treasures. My recollection of childhood was being taken to bookshops, not children's bookshops. So much more to enjoy, and to aspire to - when I've finished the Beatrix Potter, I can move onto the Enid Blyton, thence to Judy Blume, thence to Jackie Collins. Bet they didn't sell Lace in the Never Ending Story. -

I can't remember the sob story - it was something along the lines of mum in peril, bus fare home. The eyeball was incidental really and had nothing to do with the story - I think he just did it to freak people into giving him the money. Certainly worked with me (particularly as the sum asked for was pretty paltry). -

Door knocking scammers again on St Aidan's?
RosieH replied to Crystal Tips's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I find not answering the door helps. I was once scammed by a boy who took out his eyeball. I can't even remember what the story was now, but when an 11 year old is holding out his eyeball on the palm of his hand, unless you're made of stone you quickly hand over the dosh (think it was only about ?1 he was asking for). He then got me again in a different location about a year or so later with the same story, I told him I remembered him but admired his chutzpah so palmed over the cash again. Then I read about (I think) Jon Ronson being scammed by the same boy. I like to think that life dealt him lemons but he's making his lemonade. I also think I may have told this story before. -
Ha, I BLAME this forum! I was dating a guy. He was local. I introduced him to the forum. He went off with some forum floosie. Bah!

Am I being really dopey, but if you're a burglar, don't you want to keep the spoils for yourself rather than highlight to all and sundry (other burgulators) that here is a house ripe for the picking? Because then they might get there before you... Or are these amnesiac burglars who can't remember which houses they've scoped..?
