  1. It is now of course entirely out of the question. Before I know it he'll hack into my Facebook page "on his own initiative" to change my age because David prefers 'em younger. Absolutely brilliant story that made me laugh out loud and if I'd been drinking tea there would have been a 360 degree spray. Know that this one would never have got past our admin.
  2. Oooh Mikecg - unladylike????? Are you sure you want to open that can of worms?

Starting with me. SusyQ, to echo what Mark said, stop reading the Mail. But I'll go further, educate your friends and family that there are real NEWSpapers out there, and hey presto, everyone will want to move to Peckham for its vibrant multiculturalism and lovely big houses.

    Man* Tasks

There is a certain something about a man in a tool belt
  5. Yes, I'd go more with Nick Cave and PJ Harvey on Henry Lee - knife the b@stard and throw him in a well Also Buzzcocks generally help me in that frame of mind - Ever Fallen in Love is an obvious one, maybe What Do I Get? And Al Wilson's The Snake, for when you want to dance that man right out of your hair.

    Man* Tasks

Ooh how thrilling! It's quite exciting to realise there are still a lot of real men out there (sorry TLS) In my last relationship I was the one to change the fuse / plug / light the barbecue / build the furniture / get rid of spiders. Few women like to feel like the butch one in a partnership... (Still can't pitch a tent though, mostly because I like boutique hotels.)
  7. Can we not set a trap for her in the manner of Indiana Jones. Dig a deep ditch outside the front door. Cover with a remote control trapdoor. When she comes a'knockin, say you're popping inside to get a wallet, push the button, and hey presto, you'll be keeping the devil way down in the hole until such time as community wardens can hoof it round there. You could maybe put some books and jelly in there to keep her occupied and avoid accusations of cruel and unusual punishment.

    Wanted: Man

Not necessarily for the other side, but were there ever couples round for dinner parties with black forest gateau? I think that's the clincher Actually I believe the pampas has to be in the front garden to be a signifier

    Which Flick?

I saw Rachel Getting Married this evening: good but slow and uncomfortable viewing. Also definitely more on the "drama" than comic side of dark comic drama. I cried, but my friend who is hardier than me didn't. He also said that he wanted to punch Anne Hathaway in the face in every scene she was in. I think that's a little harsh. Anyway, I've had enough of crying in the cinema lately - are there no great comedies around at the moment?

    Wanted: Man

Is pampas in the front garden not a sign of swingers within?
  11. Yes, I think you're all probably right - keep the tory for kinky sex (and jewels if I can get them - do tories really give out jewels? I've gotta get me some of that)

  13. Interesting, I'm probably a lot more reasonable on here than in the outside world - possibly because I don't know any of you I feel it wouldn't be appropriate to imply anyone is intellectually subnormal or a c***ing w@nker
  14. Yay for you - coincidentally I think I might be about to be in a position to say the same thing - raaaaaaaa, champagne all round (ahh, the benefits of dating a tory)
  15. My god, Sean you're right - Mangan IS boring now - I'd only thought it through as far as I might start shopping at Boden, but an inevitable dulling of my sparkling wit? Yikes. And Tony sweetcheeks, I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Please to explain.
  16. Is it possible to find love across the political divide? While I think it might create a certain frisson in the bedroom (and Pretty Traditional are purveyors of a fine array of oranges), can there be a future in it?
  17. Sure, if no celebs sold their stories then there'd be nothing to fill the magazines. Equally if no one bought the magazines, then they wouldn't have the budget to pay celebrities for their stories (hmm, although we would still face the issue of the tabloids). It's a huge industry with millions of willing participants. Jade Goody is merely one of those millions.

    Which Flick?

Yes, it took me by surprise how gritty it was (and when I say gritty, there were times I physically flinched) but the ending's pretty feelgood.

    Which Flick?

Think it depends what kind of mood you're in, but I'm with Rhinestone Cowboy (I have indeed been walking these streets so long) and I think Slumdog Millionaire is a brilliant film that you come out of feeling great. It has grit, wit, suspense, gorgeous cinematography, and really likeable leads - I think a perfect Friday night.

Sue, sorry if I seemed to be overreacting but when I read ... I took that to be judgmental. I don't think anyone should be in advance mourning for Jade Goody, her friends and loved ones aside. But I do think it's sad and I don't think her illness should be taken as an opportunity to stamp all over her, again. Jade Goody isn't to blame for celebrity culture, she just capitalised on it. I'm no more interested in reading stories about her than I am stories about Keira Knightley, Angelina Jolie or Cheryl Cole but I'm afraid I'm in the minority. They sell magazines by the millions so I'm afraid we're all stuck with it at the supermarket checkout. I think most of us would probably agree that celebrity culture is not what we would wish for. I just think it's ugly that terminal illness should serve as the catalyst for personal insult.
  21. This thread makes me rather sad - Sean I think you're being perhaps over-reasonable when you say one or two exceptions - there have been expletives, she's been called shite and ugly and stupid. John Diamond chose to die of cancer in the public eye and get paid for it (and he's not alone) - perhaps because he was rather more broadsheet than tabloid we didn't judge him so harshly. Bemoaning Jade's lack of talent - it's been touched on above, but I think she clearly has a knack for making money and I applaud her for that. If we're stupid enough (and millions of us are) to buy the weekly celebrity mags, then I'd say she's the smart one to cash in on it. She wasn't born blessed with a genius IQ or supermodel looks or the ability to run marathons in record time. Does anyone seriously think that makes her less worthy??? Of course to become world class in any field you need to practice and practice and practice some more, but a good percentage of success stems from natural ability. If someone isn't gifted, are we suggesting they should aspire to no more than stacking shelves all their lives? As for "she never went for her smear" - I'm incredulous. What about all the cancer sufferers who never quit smoking? Fuck 'em, idiots, they deserve it.
  22. Definitely not in the butchers? There was a solitary glove in there.
  23. I think the gentlemen who set their wives up in such establishments would do well to spend their money more wisely - here for instance
  24. It may be semantics, organised religion is after all just a body of men, but it strikes me that man has always been, and will always be, violent towards his fellow man. Religion is just a politically expedient excuse. Take it away and I doubt there'll be less fighting, just different reasons.
