I was moved to write this post having just watched his comedy vehicle, and then coincidentally seeing the very excellent clip SMG posted on the thread of all mentalness. I find this man utterly hilarious - however I find a couple of things are disturbing me: 1) How does he look so ridiculously young? That baby face leads me to suspect tonight's Dorian Gray sketch was possibly autobiographical even despite his greying temples and few extra pounds. 2) Does anyone recall the episode of Black Books where Fran rather enjoys listening to the shipping forecast? I feel a little funny like that when he talks so sweet and low. I think for the sake of decency I should perhaps not watch anymore - I even pressed the red button afterwards. Anyway, I implore all of you please to watch this programme, because the viewing figures were not as high as they should have been and I want more of him on our televisions, not less.

Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It's a pub for christs sake, if you want a bloody > pizza go to the supermarket, jesus christ. > > Louisa. Now Louisa, I don't want to get into a whole my tastebuds are better than yours thing, but supermarket v. Gowlett pizza (or indeed any decent pizzeria) no comparison. For a similar crispy yet chewy base, I could of course make it myself, and occasionally do. But on other occasions, just don't have time or can't be arsed to let the dough prove. Surely if you want a pizza you should go to somewhere that sells pizzas, or are you now advocating that no one eats out? (come over here Sean, the pizza's delicious...)

Gowlett pizzas, yes, without a doubt.

Yes, I was beginning to wonder if perhaps you had wronged someone, perhaps from over the Nunhead borders..? Kidding about the Nunhead thing.

Anyone experienced a problem with the shop Mrs Robinson? (Lounged)

Ah, all for the sake of a comma. See, this is where all those people who reckon grammar doesn't matter come unstuck. I read "Well 'Del' Does Keef!" as Del somehow doing Keef; quite what he was doing to him, one can only imagine. Tony, had you said, "Well 'Del' does, Keef!" - I might have been able to work it out a little more. Still none the wiser who Del is though. -

nah, me neither -
Crystal Tips, nice idea. Mikecg - skip sifters paradise? Hardly. Friend of mine picked up a beautiful fanlight from outside a house renovation in Holland Park (think it's a bit posher there than here) - had it fitted with mirrored glass and it's absolutely stunning. I'd far rather that furniture that was still fully serviceable (though no longer required) went to a good home than went to landfill.

This evening I saw Mick Jones play an excellent acoustic set. It were reet good. I can't tell you where for fear of a Louisa / Snorky double lynching. But I came away with some free shampoo and some stockings, so that was a bonus.

edited because enough of the drunken ramblings

Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ...but the weather here does suck doesn't it? You know Jeremy, I really don't think it does - although I know many many people disagree with me. I like having seasons, and rain, it's what makes this such a green and pleasant land. Possibly there's an element of snobbery in some people, but I reiterate that I think it would be terribly misguided. I mean have you seen the size of our houses? And Lordship Lane is hardly Marylebone High Street now is it? -
If I want a burger I'll go to Kebab and Wine

Ooh, me too - haven't heard it in quite some time - might be just the thing

BBW I am pleased to announce that I am closer to the Dalai Lama than to Gandhi, and therefore, henceforth you may all refer to me as Her Holiness. As for the love of Elvis, I sadly suspect that he and I would not share a quadrant.

alethea Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > so is the verdict get rid of mrs robinson and > replace with a pound shop? Oh but no marker pens. hell no - I prefer spectacularly bad customer service with my marker pens - which I think Lordship Lane is already amply catered for. Oh wait, did I read a thread saying they're selling up? -

Well I for one bought a pack of 6 marker pens in a Peckham pound shop last week. Only three of them worked! -

Surely not snobbery so much as taste - I don't think showing a liking for something in Mrs Robinson says anything about you apart from your sense of aesthetics. What possible cachet can there be to buying something from a random shop on Lordship Lane? In all seriousness, who the hell is going to be impressed, or indeed even have a clue what Mrs Robinson is? I like Mrs Robinson interiors (generally nice things, some of it expensive, some of it not, Clarissa Hulse stuff which is always a bonus in my book) but dislike Mrs Robinson clothes (mumsy and a bit dull) -
Marmora Man Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I will tho'. Their sausage rolls are the best - as > is their ham on the bone. Oh god, their sausage rolls.... Only problem with them is one is never enough - two is a little too much. Down with the deli, they encourage gluttony

In the words of a far better songwriter than me, why don't you go out and do something less boring instead?

Brendan, by that logic we should also stop listening to any Bill Wyman-era Rolling Stones given that he was dating (and doubtless sleeping with) Mandy Smith when she was 13. Or is it ok because they're musically superior?

Thanks Mick, you are a gent and no mistake. Lucky 7s at the Gowlett - someone played Live it Up by Mental as Anything - I could have cried with joy. It was the song I first ever french-kissed to and I don't think I've heard it in 20 years - I was caught up in a Proustian whirl of memory and synaesthesia. If the dj in question is a forum member, I just wanted to express my incomparable delight. (I apologise for over-sharing this evening, I find I can't quite help it)
-
I'd just like to say a massive shout out to the man who played Live It Up at Lucky 7s on Thursday night. If that was you sir, take a bow. I have no more to add really, so this will be a very short thread, but I just felt it warranted a round of applause.

SteveT, I'm not disagreeing, merely wondering, how do you propose we stand up to them?
