  1. I did not say that people campaigning for fair wages is fatuous. I said this campaign was. Ritzy's starting pay is 9.10 per hour which is by far one of the best wages for this kind of work in London. At the end of 2015, according to ONS, there were 445,000 PAYE-registered businesses in London. The 2,900 businesses signed up to LLW do not undermine my statement that the vast majority are not (in spite of the monstruously profitable names you cite.) That's not to say that LLW isn't an an important voice because they are. But they're not the only voice. If everyone in London were uprated to the LLW overnight, with the knock-on effects there would be a catastrophic economic correction the likes of which we have never seen. That serves no-one. This is the kind of thing that employers need to work towards over time, not overnight. And Picturehouse is way out in front on this issue and should be applauded for their efforts thus far rather than demonised for being something that they're not. Luvvies and politicians trotting out easy statements from their well-padded armchairs do far more harm than good.
  2. Exactly what I was gong to add JoeLeg. Odeon is a far bigger employer and they steadfastly adhere to minimum wage. As do vue, another massive employer. As do the vast majority of businesses of all types across the city. I'm not saying people shouldn't campaign for better pay and conditions where possible but this kind of fatuous, headline-grabbing behaviour helps no-one and unfairly demonises what is, when you look at the competition and the local employment scene, one of the good guys. I shall continue to support Picturehouses everywhere.
  3. I remember when I first moved to the area I noticed all these properties that had the name of the landlord emblazoned on. They even presumptuously posted a thoroughly awful banner welcoming everyone to LL as though that were their responsibility. Happily they were forced to take that down. Realising the True Potential of Properties their signs command. Not that I suppose they're any different from any other landlord but rubbing it in the face of struggling and now defunct businesses is rather cruel.
  4. According to the delivery man this morning, the closure is imminent and the building to be sold for flats. He had quite a passionate speech that I think he was giving to anyone who opened their door to him. If anyone knows the mechanism for formally appealing this decision (if indeed there is one) speak up now.
  5. Since the leases were last renewed, undoubtedly. They probably signed their last lease many years ago and it's just come up for renewal to be greeted with a landlord eagerly rubbing his hands.
  6. The environmental team finally replied this morning with the priceless response that 'Goose Green roundabout is not in Southwark' and that I should address my enquiry to the correct borough. God help us all.
  7. I sent a repair request to the council two days ago - hopefully matters were already in train but might have spurred them on, never know. Also never know whether it's Thames Water, TFL or Southwark responsible - probably part of the reason nothing happened straightaway. That pothole is hazardous to say the least and with every passing car, it gets much worse.
  8. Hopefully they were sorting out the dangerous water leak that was starting to break up the road? Wishful thinking.
  9. I believe that the law states that planning permission requires work to begin within 3 years but quite unfairly places no obligation on the owner for a completion date. I presume the owner will have a party wall agreement in place with you for all this work, especially the basement excavations? Can you not object on any failure to adhere to working practices that will have been detailed therein? I do worry for you as he appears to have gained a verbal assurance from a planning officer about this latest permission which makes it quite unlikely any objection would be upheld. The man is clearly a menace to you and the community.
  10. Word on the street is that the owner keeps running out of money. He should just sell the place to someone who can actually afford to complete it and put the residents out of their misery. I mean, is he actually going to want to live next door to these poor folks who loathe him so passionately?
  11. I find you tend to get more willing staff via the chat function on the website, that's how I got it. I also pointed out that the BBC catch-up is often unavailable until the next day - you can watch via BBC website but not with Virgin which is totally rubbish. And speedtest.net is a good site for benchmarking your speeds. Make sure no-one else or other bandwidth devouring devices are using the Internet when you run it. You may regret leaving - when it works (which is more often than not) it's the fastest provider around and BT's service is just as prone to disappoint. Maybe just go totally 4G and get rid of everything else. The rolls Royce package with EE incl HD TV is only 38.50 a month..
  12. Off all day until about half an hour ago. I've negotiated a rolling credit of ?20 a month since last September because speeds are way down on what they should be. They claim speeds will be back to normal by end of March so I keep claiming my credit every month until they do. Used to get 170mb, now only 70. In October 2016 they sent me a text, an email and called me to proclaim they were upgrading me to 200mb for free! Not holding my breath.
  13. Every newly refurbished PO I've been to recently has a self-op machine for parcels, Signed For, Special Del etc. I do not understand for the life of me why they didn't take the opportunity to install such a service in ED.
  14. Um, issuing share certificates? And reissuing them every time there's a sale?
  15. Set up your RTE company as limited by guarantee. That's what we did. No shares, all the rights and responsibilities of Flatowners are in the M&AofA of the company. Saves a truck load of paperwork.
  16. Another year goes by and still no movement on this pressing issue. I'm bumping it back up the list to see if anyone can shed any positive light on progress?
  17. His/her primary responsibility was to ensure the safety of her charge. A task at which s/he succeeded admirably would you say?
  18. A taxi I was in collided with an uninsured driver at the top of Dog Kennel Hill around midnight Saturday. It was a huge mess and we finished up right in the middle of the intersection. To my amazement, probably 30-40 cars in succession just drove around us, many hooting their displeasure at being held up for second or two. Do I genuinely have to point out that the correct human response in such a situation is to stop, maybe roll down a window or possibly even get out and ask if anyone's hurt? Not curse in incredulity that your journey home has been delayed. We're all fine, thanks for asking.
  19. Digger doing clearance work today. Anyone have any news?
  20. The Chairman of Fulhamshore apparently owns shares in MeatLiquor. The other people who run it have variously been involved in Pizza Express, GBK and something called Wild Caper.
  21. Good luck getting anywhere. This has been looked at before and since half the pavement is owned by 50 different businesses in small chunks it's almost impossible to do anything.
  22. Quite remarkable that they offer 6 kinds of bread and yet none of them tastes of anything at all. Their cookies on the other hand..
  23. goldilocks - don't bother James with it. Email [email protected] Tell them that there's a dangerous structure in the playground that poses a serious threat to children's safety. It'll be fixed in 24hrs. I've done this three times.
