Cyclist knocked off outside Harris Boys East Dulwich
worldwiser replied to taper's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Firstly, I don't call people dumb. Nor did I anywhere above. I expressed a perfectly reasonable point of view with which you are certainly free to disagree. I have an average sized saloon car and, with two car seats in place, there is no way for a child to exit the car on the opposing side without removing one of them. I don't admonish parents, most of whom are just trying to make it through the day as best they can. Until they make it possible to mount two carseats on the same side of a vehicle, I believe most of us will continue to do just that. -

mynamehere, you might show a little understanding - it's not always possible to park with the carseat side to the kerb and, if one has two children, completely impossible. I totally endorse the point about child locks though. -
Whippersnappers will host a magnificent party for you at their venue next to the Brockwell Lido. Absolutely amazing entertainment with magic, games, music and all sorts. Kids had an amazing time.

Little Clipper is the obvious, on NXRd. They have pods for the little ones to sit in while watching cartoons.. think the first cut is at a discount but can't remember how much. You do have to book in though.

Would anyone mind checking to see what upload speed they get on the BT Infinity products? -
'Naff' Christmas lights on Lordship Lane
worldwiser replied to BrandNewGuy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I had understood that if shop owners didn't repair their sections the council is legally entitled to do the work for them (at their cost) to remove a public hazard. In any case, the additional cost and effort beyond what's already involved would have been minimal in the grand scheme and what they've achieved instead is making something that already looked awful even worse. The highly conspicuous dividing line between council and private land is nothing short of hilarious. LL is now a Southwark laughing stock. Returning to the Christmas lights, I'm just fine with what they've done. -

worldwiser replied to BrandNewGuy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hilarious that people are concerned about Christmas lights which will be gone in a few weeks and no-one is concerned about the ridiculous half-a-job pavement renovation that will have cost a fortune and will last for eternity. -
Virgin Media Outage - Northcross Road
worldwiser replied to Neil.P's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Increasingly I wonder what Virgin has going for it anymore. Their TV menu system is archaic and only allows catch up from the last week with nothing available from BBC until 3+ hours after original broadcast. Their phone lines crackle like fireworks and for about a year now their internet has consistently been 50% of the speed we pay for. I see friends with their gleaming super duper BT services and wonder if Virgin is operating in the same century. Just waiting for half a day to be free to organise the switch. -

Seems the bin store is now a crime scene.. police tape wrapped all over it. -

Silvester Rd post collection shambles
worldwiser replied to bels123's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I find there are so many local outlets willing to take delivery of parcels from all the independent couriers, I can't remember the last time I ever needed to use Royal Mail. It's almost as if they're trying to put themselves out of business. -
Disposing of paint? Would anyone collect it?
worldwiser replied to DulwichLondoner's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
freecycle.org has proved very useful in the past. The council wouldn't remove a clean old bath citing 'health & safety' so I guess they definitely wouldn't collect paint. Their operatives really must have terribly delicate hands. Do they not wear gloves anyway? -
Crawthew Grove dumping rubbish
worldwiser replied to worldwiser's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Looks like matters were resolved. For one week. And now it's piled up again, worse than ever. James, can you get the council to confirm precisely what it is they have actually done? And should there now not be the threat of a penalty for not complying? It is quite stupefying how much effort and time is having to be spent on dealing with this. -
Stranded car at entrance to Crawthew Grove
worldwiser replied to worldwiser's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This is probably the 4th time since living here that I've seen this so I do wonder if it needs to be made more visible. Still struggle to figure out how a car going at normal speed would end up like this but I'm glad you got yourself out of the predicament in the end. -
I first noticed this car at about 4 this afternoon - presumably someone's dealing with this? We had a delivery scheduled this evening which had to be abandoned because it's blocking the entrance. Does one call 101?

Crawthew Grove dumping rubbish

Could try that, although I don't see a huge success rate there. FOI might jolt them when they publicly have to admit they haven't done a thing for four months.. -
Crawthew Grove dumping rubbish
worldwiser replied to worldwiser's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I spoke to Southwark environment a week ago and a seemingly very concerned man promised to follow up. I first complained in August and wanted to know what had been done since. Clearly they are doing the bare minimum, if that. I'm also trying an alternative approach via Southwark Planning. I feel sure that waste removal will have to have been addressed when they converted the offices into flats. The offices had a daily collection by a commercial waste company from a large wheeliebin. The council will not have agreed to street dumping as a solution. So they are probably in breach of their planning conditions. Yes the pub's waste is pretty awful too, I agree. -
Crawthew Grove dumping rubbish

Thanks for this BMB. I do wonder if dumping it on Lordship Lane is really appropriate either. I had thought that the doors to the left of your entrance were supposed to be where refuse is stored. Either way people must realise that it's attracting vermin (I see foxes ripping it apart every week) and creating a health hazard. This in addition to the fact that sometimes the pavement is impassable - I actually had to move the bags today to get past with my baby in a buggy. We just shouldn't have to put up with this. I'd be very grateful if you could pass these comments to the managing agent and let me know their reply. Many thanks indeed. -
I've been trying to get the council to do something about this - a dozen emails and phone calls. I've asked our councillor to wade in. I've put notes through their door. This has been going on for months now. It's completely unacceptable. The occupants of this newly converted block of flats are causing an unsanitary blight on the neighbourhood and I'd be grateful for suggestions on what more I could be doing to rid us of this antisocial nuisance!

Hi James, Do you have an update on the waste being left outside the new Crawthew Grove flats? It's been 2 months since I drew the attention of the council to this. It's absolutely, irretrievably awful and completely antisocial. It should be the easiest thing in the world to fix. -

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
worldwiser replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi James, thanks for this. I also contacted the environment team on Aug 23. Still no reply other than the automated one and the refuse continues to be left. In high winds it blows down the street and foxes are always tearing into the bags. It is quite awful. I really wonder what motivates the occupants to to spoil the neighbourhood they only just moved into. -

Hi rch, thanks for this. I'll take a look and see if my neighbours will lend their names too. Any particular 'keywords' I should highlight to be taken notice of?!
