No buses running through lordship lane
worldwiser replied to sweetgirl's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Singalto.. Yes I saw that. It makes me livid. They resurface in completely illogical, sectioned ways that must be extraordinarily expensive and causes unnecessary inconvenience. Each time having to close down substantial parts of the area, advance prep the site, suspend bays, bring in plant etc. In the last 3 years, one job was Grove Vale, but not including GG which was merely patch repaired but at a separate time. Which itself was separate from ED Rd, itself separate from the Worlingham Rd job. And then there was the quarter million NX Rd entrance fiasco when they just did about 50m of LL and then finally what they did in the last week. The section of LL remaining is in just as bad shape as what was renewed. The cost of restarting the site (as inevitably they will have to soon) will be eye-watering compared to doing the lot in one. And in all of this they still haven't done a bloody thing to sort out the EDGrove/LL junction which remains incredibly dangerous for pedestrians. If anyone can explain the council's logic unless it is to get the poorest value for money from our taxes, I'm all ears. -

New M & S to open this Thursday 15 November

Seriously don't buy anybody's wine for a fiver in this country. ?4.63 of it is for stuff that has nothing to do with grapes like tax, duty, glass, shipping and profit. You have to do some pretty unpleasant things to get wine to taste drinkable for 37p. -
Stranded car at entrance to Crawthew Grove
worldwiser replied to worldwiser's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Not to excuse such fantastically poor driving, but if Southwark properly re-developed that entire junction (as I and others and successive local councillors have been clamouring for over 4 years) this would never happen. -

And again... probably the most spectacular yet -
Second vote for secondary glazing. It is remarkably effective when added to double glazing.

East Dulwich Station Mural is being painted
worldwiser replied to eastDAG's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I really was so excited to see this today going through on the bus. Except all there was to see was the usual grey walls. Can't quite understand why the mural was positioned such that no one will see it on the other side of the street and no-one in a bus, bike or car will either. Previous murals that have gone up recently are visible by everyone entering the area.. Forest Hill, Herne Hill etc. Why is it that this one only welcomes those coming home by train? It does look lovely. Shame I'll never see it. -
If you've just moved in, I would go back to your solicitor for clarification on your rights in this situation. It will have been incumbent on them to establish storage arrangements for refuse at the property. And given the FH has created a dedicated walkway for your property (and presumably allowed previous owners to store their bins as you have done) you may well have a case to insist they continue the practice or that they are wrongly interfering with the property's easements.

Hard to understand why your solicitor is being so evasive given that this is a completely standard part of the conveyancing process. There might be extra fees if a deed of trust is required but the advice should be included. Fire them, even if they wake up now I would have lost all confidence anyway. This is way too important.

Neighbours' cats using our garden as toilet
worldwiser replied to UlStED's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We've got a neighbour's cat that loves peeing on our garden furniture which is delightful. And when we leave the back door open it happily relieves itself in our kitchen and one time even our lounge. We've been nothing but inhospitable to this wretched creature and still it persists. Our latest approach is planting lavender everywhere and we did spray a lemon scented liquid we got off amazon for a while but nothing has yet worked. I'm prepared to drench the blighter with the garden hose but I wonder if relations with the neighbours would take a downturn. -

Electric car charge points in East Dulwich
worldwiser replied to DV77's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
One has to think of what the endgame with electric cars is. Seems to me it's a situation where every parking space in the country has access to a charging point but how do we get to that? I think councils should carpet the country with them but not restrict use of the spaces so that conventional vehicles are still permitted to park. If they don't make them very widely available, people won't move to electric in vast numbers. If they do make them widely available but restrict usage of the spaces, there'll be utter chaos in the interim. I don't think the current models of charging points (that of huge, obstructive posts with flashing lights) can possibly be the way to continue. I think some form of wireless, inductive charging system will have to be installed at ground level, under the parking spaces themselves or in the kerb. It's the only sensible infrastructure solution. Except no-one will have agreed on a standard for this for quite some time and the various high end manufacturers such as Porsche and Tesla understandably have different standards. Until they all align, there's no realistic prospect of having many more charging points with current technologies because what would be the point of spending the money on something that's already out of date? -
Parent & baby spaces at Sainsburys ED
worldwiser replied to worldwiser's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I doubt very much anyone would begrudge you (Applepears) a space given your situation so I personally think you should go ahead. Let's be clear, none of the people I've ever seen using the spaces improperly were in your situation. -
Couple of motorists engaged in the most extraordinary verbal tirade tonight.. anyone know what it was about? I can only assume that someone was almost killed as there's not much less that could have justified such behaviour.

Parent & baby spaces at Sainsburys ED
worldwiser replied to worldwiser's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
unglen thankyou for your enlightened contribution. I rather hope society has moved on somewhat since then. I don't particularly mind where the spaces are, just asking that people without children don't use them. At the Sydenham branch they actively police the spaces and fine people for misuse. I hope Dulwich doesn't have to go down that road. -
Today I was fortunate enough to grab one of these extremely helpful spaces just as the previous customer vacated it, accompanied by no-one. As I bundled the little one into a trolley I was struck by the next car to arrive which had no children on board either. Nor did the 3 other cars that I saw arrive or leave one of the spaces. Could I make a plea that should really be self evident: these spaces make a huge difference to parents and not just because they're close to the entrance but because they offer substantially more space for manoeuvring buggies and children about. Using these spaces if you're not with any children is just plain mean. Please don't.

It's certainly a quality installation but in my view the main attraction is way too high up with way too few access routes creating bottlenecks. Unless you're well over 6ft tall it's very difficult to get to your child if they need assistance. I'm unsure which age range this is targeted at but my five year old (who's very comfortable at all other local playgrounds) found it very scary!

Rather a selective and reductive reading of the 'long letter' wouldn't you say? Their stated goal is to reduce travel to the school by car where possible. How would they achieve that by having lots of parking spaces? I think their approach - working with other schools, incentivising other forms of transport - is to be encouraged and contrary to your opinion, very community-minded.

The planned new Dulwich Health Centre
worldwiser replied to NHS_Matt's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
For a survey that claims to be about the relocation of the service, why isn't there a single question relating to the relocation of the service?! -
Indeed. But renters almost always have to abide by the covenants in the head lease which will almost certainly have clauses relating to noise.
