  2. Looking forward to this... Is it just me or does it seem to have a bit of an old style forum drinks feel about it?!
  3. Might be worth contacting the council, I did is once in East London & the council sent someone out to fish them out of the drain the next day - expect to be charged, but would be much cheaper than changing licks/getting replacement keys!!
  4. Jennyh - unfortunately there weren't any big hints on reducing adrenaline apart from the obv - consistent wind down routine. Anecdotally it rang true with the amount of head injuries I'd see in Paeds ED where the history began "it was/was coming up to bedtime but they were so full of beans and running around, but then they tripped & hit their head on the table/door frame/bed post"!
  5. I'm due no.2 in Nov so right with you on the knackered-ness & shortened fuse! As part of my job I went to a sleep seminar with the guys behind Millpond sleep training & they showed how what often causes the hyper-alertness is the adrenaline which in a weird fight or flight way decides they must do all they can to stay awake! Found myself with a bit more sympathy once I realised & could see it in Bugglet at the following bedtime.
  6. How good is her understanding?? Could you at a calm time during the day talk to her about it - maybe engineer playing putting teddy/dolly to bed and talk a bit about bedtime. Might be hard find out exactly get what is upsetting her, but she might be able to understand more that you explain about bedtime & how important it is to sleep; story books about going to bed might help too. Being consistent about the bedtime routine is important too, sometimes at this age the rebelling is almost to check where the boundary is for what's "allowed". We ent through a similar phase where Bugglet would want more & more stories/ not want to be lt alone and bedtime became v stressful, so i made a reward chart! covering all of bath/bedtime and made sure I included a few things that she's always especially good at doing so there'd always be something that she would get a sticker/be rewarded for. I made our own reward chart by taking photos of Bugglet doing bath time/tooth brushing/wearing pj's & a picture of 3 books indicating that was how many she could have & was amazed how quickly it was affective. Finally, try not to show how stressed you are - really difficult, but essential as she will pick up on your stress and it could cause more upset/take longer to settle. Hope the tips help & congrats on No 2's imminent arrival :-)
  7. Use to come into London with my Mum on day trips & having got the train into Victoria, our first port of call would be Changing the Guard on Horseguards parade http://www.royal.gov.uk/royaleventsandceremonies/changingtheguard/overview.aspx We're not a royalist family, but the pomp, band, horses & soldiers were always went down well & are truly something you don't see elsewhere, plus at about 1/2hr long it's not too strenuous & a great start to a day sightseeing.
  8. El Pibe - v impressed you're off to B&H - am bit jealous too. Mr Buggie & I managed to relive our per-child days and went to the underbelly/London wonderworld pretending we were visiting the Edinburgh Festival, saw the amazing "Boy with Tape on his face" and onto see Frisky and Mannish who were good, but found i was was more taken by the wonderworld tent which was the most beautiful tent I've ever seen! There's still a few weeks to go of their season on the Southbank & with lots of seating/bar and food stalls can even go & sit there without seeing anything/while working out what to see.
  9. Have you looked at www.eric.org.uk Their an enurisis charity with lots of help/support on offer & would be able to give you lots of advice/help.
  10. A colleague told me once how they'd had a social worker contact them asking about a family as the mother-in-law had contacted them complaining that the mum put her coat over the buggy (as a shade). Needless to say the social worker web satisfied nil of concern was going on & didn't pursue it!
  11. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-22335511 It's the older population and shingles which is a bigger problem than children with chickenpox and so this is why the jab is being introduced to over 70's, if the jab was introduced to babies it would take 100yrs to eradicate the more problematic shingles - as said by the imms co-ordinater of the trust I work for.
  12. Surely in year 2 (having seen things about this previously), isn't it just basic anatomy - naming the body parts & discussing that boys and girls are different? Wouldn't have any worries about it, am sure that we'd have talked about a lot of the things already - Bugglet at 2.9yrs has tried to wee standing up like Daddy so had to discuss how boys and girls have different bits! She also has a brother or sister on the way, so wondering if she'll have a few questions around that and feel excited rather than worried about it (although day for them to come at the worse time!!).
  13. All tickets (apart from ground tickets) are allocated by open ballot - am sure if you google it the details would come up. I haven't applied before but my mum-in-law has done it several times and got tickets for the final a few years back - we could see her on tv over a Roger Federer's shoulder when having rest breaks! I believe you get informed which tickets you've been allocated & have a chance to accept or have them reallocated.

  15. Cafe at little rascals seems to be closed for the foreseeable future - the sports centre management is changing & seems to be taking longer to handover than was anticipated. Go there for Bugglet's gymnastics & seems to be a feeling of apathy - the car park ticket machines are all out of order, so have to go & buy ticket @ reception which is a pain when towing a toddler in & out!
  16. Cornwall is v well suited to families & cater v well to the uk climate (is by no means a beach & nothing else place). Think if I recommend where we stay again it will start to look like I've got shares, but needless to say, there's lots of fab family friendly accommodation down there - pm if you'd like more info (or search me + Cornwall on here!)
  17. Luckily Sainsburys in Sydenham were great & have given me a strap without any fuss - is it bad that I went in expecting a battle?!
  18. Thanks for the explanation & interesting to see there's still a vague chance of a 2nd new primary... Now to sort out extra secondary school places for all these kids ;-)
  19. Bought Bugglet a trunki today & head off on hols v early Fri morning. However, on getting home realised there isn't a pull along strap in it. I bought it in the big Sydenham Sainsburys & don't think I'm going to be able to get one from them (although trying is now on my growing list of things to do!). Do any lovely EDF'ers have a strap that we could borrow for the week? Would need to collect tomorrow afternoon/evening. Thanks in advance x
  20. Roca in Dulwich Village is lovely & the staff all seem to adore children :-)
  21. James - when you say that lots of parents live near the hospital site, is this actually an area that is short on places? Having watched school threads over the last few years, is it not more Ryedale/the roads off of Forest Hill Road/heading back along Peckham Rye (abd this year the Lordship Lane Estate & southern ED) that are the "blackspot". While understanding potential sites are limited, would a school at the hospital really alleviate the pressure on places in this area? I'm actually in Nunhead, but despite being under 500m from Ivydale I worry how likely this is to be too far away after yet another bulge class this year (bugglet will be a Sept '15 admission) & so the possibility - mentioned earier in this thread- of an ED/Nunhead school would be of curiosity. Annoyingly I won't be able to attend the meeting on the 11th - will there be further meetings?
  22. Thanks m'dear :-)
  23. Missed the last few Fri sessions of HM & am now unsure if we're off for half term or not! Anyone know? Thanks in advance :-)
  24. I've found lots of pressies recently on www.notonthehighstreet.com Nice selection of quirky/personalised gifts from a wide range of small producers.

Dobbie is Issy Stuttie, Sophie (Olivia Colman) was Marks girlfriend (& I believe now ex-wife) as well as being the mother of Mark's son (my knowledge of Peep Show is more by osmosis than actually watching it!)
