To answer LondonMix (apologies for the tangent). Is difficult to confirm which they were as being frontline we would rarely get full feedback/the chance to fully follow up what happened in individual cases - there would be multi-disciplinary meetings, as there are regarding any child death, but A&E would only be involved in the initial stages as our piece of the jigsaw was comparatively small compared to the police child protection team (who investigate on behalf of the coroner) and even information from previous medical notes/HV's - important even in SIDS/?smothering to exclude other potential reasons. I would say I'm pretty sure I saw at least 1 x smothering (due to their appearance on arrival), but, weren't a party to the details of the ongoing investigation/outcome to be able to say out & out. I've said I wouldn't personally do it (and I hope explained why), but I haven't called it reckless & take issue if you're suggesting I did. I've made it clear that I respect the views of parents that choose to co-sleep & would give he appropriate advice to make it as safe as possible. I'd hope that those I know further up the thread know me well enough to know that & that on the basis of open discussion it is useful to have other opinions expressed/debated.

Feel it should be mentioned that official advice is to have baby v v close by but not co-sleeping. However, advise on minimising risks is given to families wanting to co-sleep & when working and giving advice professionally, my own personal views as expressed below are not touched upon (although if asked "what I would do" I would explain the what & not as much on the why). Unfortunately when working in A&E I did see deaths of babies who had been in bed with parents - including ones who were breast fed & whose parents thought they were safe. I'm not wanting to sound alarmist, and know that all commenting here take every precaution that they can, understandably feel it's best and have no reason to doubt that, but, the guidelines are there because deaths do occur, and having had to help families in the immediate aftermath of these incidents, I felt uncomfortable trying this myself when Bugglet was tiny (once she found her elbows/wiggle/could climb in of her own accord it's occasionally a different story!!). Bugglet was a v low birth wt (bit of a surprise) which anyway would have contraindicated co-sleeping, but by having her within touching distance right by my bedside, I didn't feel I missed much as had lots of baby wearing daytime snuggles and get lots of morning snuggles with her now. No2 is now due in Nov, and even if its bigger than its (now) big sister, I'll still do the same.

Brownies - are there any local troups?
buggie replied to ryedalema's topic in The Family Room Discussion
There's a brownie meeting on a Fri in St Clement & St Peter on Friern (but with entrance via Barry Road) as they go in after Hummy Mummies! -
The guys on T&G are lovely - you're in good hands there :-) really hope he's on the mend soon & glad you're feeling more relaxed (& have had your concerns acknowledged & validated) x

Time to ask for help - Potty training 3.5 year old!

Poo goes to Pooland is available as a PDF online (ie; FREE!!) if you google it. Used it with Bugglet as she was quickly dry but didn't seem to notice/denied poo was occurring, the story talks about signs of pooing & think this did help her get the hang of it :-) -
Fingers crossed things are clearer, glad there's no fever x

Baby would be v v sick if it was a pneumonia - as others have said, feeding would be greatly reduced (as would wet/soiled nappies) and they would have increased effort with their breathing along with increased drowsiness (reduced energy intake & increased energy needed to breathe). In A&E the dr would have listened to check there was good air entry in all lobes of the lungs (pneumonia would be indicated by nil breath sounds to particular bits of the lungs when they listened). If it was bacterial then there would be a fever, but with viral (typically "milder" infections) there isn't. An x-ray would only be performed if there were definite signs of a pneumonia as there are risks attached to radiation - parental request often isn't enough if there are no other signs of infection. Hope the GP has been able to reassure you & that baby is much better soon - typically they do recover much quicker than an adults with bronchitis (the nearest equivalent).

Autumn babies club (due Sept/Oct/Nov 2013)
buggie replied to woman_of_vigour's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Anorexic 2nd time mum here, am due mid-November & Bugglet will be 3yrs old by then (?easier... He he he!). Unsure if I'll make the 11th but will keep an eye out for other meet ups. -
James, might be worth looking into getting a prescription passport http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcosts/Pages/PPC.aspx which would put a limit on your annual payments on all NHS charges. My mum has done this for several years and found it v useful.

If you're able to go outside of the school hols, there is a cottage (Rose cottage) available last wk of June or w/b 19th July & more flexibility come September at my favourite Cornwall destination (Bosinver farm cottages - website has info on general child friendly activites as well as info about them - www.bosinver.co.uk). Bit worried I might come across evangelical, but it's fab & they won best self catering resort in the South West at is years British tourism awards. Hope you get it sorted & have a fab break :-)

Unsure there'd be one cottage big enough for all of the party, but could be worth looking at Bosinver Farm Cottages in Cornwall (www.bosinver.co.uk) they've won the gold award for self catering accommodation in the SW of England & has some lovely facilities on site which will help keep all entertained (inc hand feeding the animals with Farmer Dave every morning). We're going in Sept for the 3rd year running :-)

Ah phew :-) There's a massive increase (finally) in HV numbers as its finally been realised the service was being run into a big hole, so there are lots of fresh evidence-based HV's out there. Tis the same as with any advice though ( as any advice thread on here shows!): take it on board; consider it; try it even, but if it doesn't work for you there's always an alternative & no one does everything the same way!

Awww, read this yesterday & made me glad I'm years away from this (have a horrid feeling things are similar for daughters :( )

As a member of a (not very local) HV team (but not doing my HV training yet) find the advice not to listen to HV advice really sad :( don't far all with the same brush. For *some* mums, it can be really difficult to manage feeding to sleep every night and they do worry about how bubs will settle if an emergency took them away or if their returning to work so not able toffees to sleep for naps. I would always say that if it's not a problem to you, then fab & continue, but, if there are big life changes coming which could rock the boat, then an ahead & make gradual changes. HV's are likely wary of feeding to sleep/attachment parenting as their often the ones having to advice the parents who haven't thought ahead & are having difficulty adjusting to changes made and are wanting advice/support. HV teams are v similar to the yellow pates - apart from dvelopmental reciews, Parents don't make efforts to see HV's to tell them everything's fab! :)

Gulp... We'll be looking at entry the following year (2015/16) & are well under 500m as the crow flies but worry that it's going to shrink further in coming years :S

Crofton Park has step-free access midway along each platform - v easy on London-bound side but bit of a trek from the kent-bound platform (several mins back to the main road).

I've seen the guy in it around locally & v relieved to find he's an actor as I always wonder how I know him. Course I'm now worried I might've been giving him unintentional funny looks while trying to work out if I should say hi/if he'd recognise me (which he wouldn't!)

Can anyone recommend local gymnastics for toddler please?
buggie replied to mammamia's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Bugglet had her first session at Ladywell Gymnastics Club last week in their toddler (2-3yr) class after 3 months on the waiting list & loved it (as did I!). It's based at Bellingham Leisure Centre & I originally heard of it on here. They had some proper equipment out (beams & asymmetric bars) which instructors were assisting with, and then a huge trampoline set in the floor, tunnels, small equipment & crash mats for free play. There was another lad there on his first session who was v nearly 3yrs so likely not too late to get on the waiting list. -
Mr Buggie says Daddy Pig's his hero... Unsure what that says about Bugglet & I!

Too late now, but Roca in DV is lovely, have been impressed by Kos too though.

Best way to St Thomas' - Thursday for 9.30am
buggie replied to The Nappy Lady's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Depending how keen she is on walking, (and knowing where you are :) )it might be as easy to get the train to Blackfriars (from Nunhead station - it takes 18mins) then walk along the south bank to Tommys - would be about a 20min walk I'd guess, but might be easier and quicker than getting/changing buses during rush hour. Hope all goes well x -
Cinderella - anyone else concerned
buggie replied to WorkingMummy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Who'd have thought when you wanted it all to kick off a few weeks back that all you'd need to do is talk about fairy stories ;) See you at Chris & Pui again?! Might be worth looking up Ackroyd Children's Centre which I hear lots of good things about, also on Thurs & Saturdays there's a thing called Happy Mess which looks fab & have heard v good things about: http://happymessyfun.blogspot.co.uk/?m=1 (can't do proper links on phone!).
