  1. If ordering something heavy, can order to collect from the Old Kent Rd branch which has a car park - no long walk :)
  2. The eggs are only white once the lice have hatched out. Lots of combing with conditioner to comb them out over several days - section by section of hair and recheck daily if not using anything to kill the lice as they'll continue to hatch out.
  3. Haven't been in ages, but toddlerworld at Crystal Palace was a favourite & little'un is mobile they should get something out of it.
  4. The other option would be to attend/call and make an appt with the walk-in centre at Lister Health Centre in Peckham, while not resolving the DMC issue at least you'd get the treatment you need. HTH's x
  5. We did Gambado's a few wks back - because it was so hot the place was really empty (according to staff). Mr Buggie & I alternated 1/2hr shifts with Bugglet while the other sat, read the papers & chilled - was first time since having her that I was able to read all the papers in 1 day :) Kid's lunchboxes were good, but the adult food was rubbish (tolerable because Bugglet was so entertained!).
  6. Would suggest contacting your health visitor - could be that it'd be done at Sunshine House & if so the HV would be able to ref you or tell you if you can self refer.
  7. *high five's Indiepanda & pm's to arrange stake out of Red Apple*

  9. Think yourself lucky you're not relying on the 484!
  10. I've seen Miss Broom (sorry can't call her Karen - like calling your teacher by their first name!) several times over the years am sure I've even seen her when I've been at work in A&E, but never said hello as do feel bit starstruck, especially as she still looks exactly the same as I remember her in Johnny Briggs. A few years off, but I live in fear of overhearing bugglet saying "My Mum, who's a nurse..." :)
  11. You're right about the original intentions of sure start Pugwash; it was literally to offer all children a sure start in life, many of which are local to here but possibly unnoticed by many of us. Can't do links on my phone but google "Marmot report children's centres" and it explains it better than I could.
  12. I second the cheap sainsburys bottles with soft spouts - can half suck half chew & was Bugglet's bottle of choice for a while (plus at <?2 you don't feel so bad if they don't like it :-)). Fingers crossed solution is found - has Granny tried bottle feeding him without you around since this started?? Could it be a bit of Baby Belle knowing you've boob to offer too?! x
  13. Have looked after children having this done but not at Tommys. Few hours is what I'd expect. They'll get him weighed & make sure there're anti-histamines & I'd guess an Epi-pen prescribed & ready to use. The jab will be ordered & collected from pharmacy & the jab given - would guess they'd want to observe for 2hrs or so before letting you both go home. Is there not a contact number for the department you're going to on your appt letter? If the name of the ward/clinic is on there the Tommy's switchboard should be able to put you through & you can check with them directly.
  14. How horrible & unsympathetic - can completely understand how distressing & upsetting it must've been & that even if they weren't trained to treat/help they still could have shown compassion or helped you. I would suggest though that this would've been fully appropriate for A&E - cleaning grit out needs a clean area and lots of water. Think when it comes to advice on burns/injuries It's the very minor end (whaler which many sort out themselves) that pharmacists would expect to advise on.

Most of them have no medical > qualifications. Health Visitors are qualified nurses who have done a degree in specialist community nursing. You might be muddling them with the nursery nurses/support staff who help in clinics with weighing the babies/basic duties. My experience has been that as soon as you ask a question/say you need to speak to the HV, you get pointed in their direction/go into their queue to be seen. Oimissus - if you call up your HV team & leave a msg they'll be able to get back to you asap & let you know if there is drop in - seem to remember there being an HV clinic at the albrighton centre on a Tues 1.30-3pm. If you haven't already might be worth trying lots of nappy free time (easier daytime than over night!) & metanium cream has always worked for bugglet x
  16. I love the dish & the spoon & lucky enough to be in walking distance of it :) Even Bugglet points & says "dish spoon" if we're going past!
  17. We took sides off our 23mth old's cot about 3wks ago. As far as I know She hadn't tried to climb out of the cot but had tried to climb out of a travel cot & think it was only a matter of time. Plus she would climb into any bed and "sleep" given half a chance so knew her own bed would be quite exciting. We haven't looked back, is so lovely to be able to hug her in bed before she goes to sleep & much easier to move/pull covers over her. She seems to settle to sleep much easier & weirdly still calls for us in the morning rather than climb out & into our room (think this is just her though - she still likes to be carried downstairs in the morning too!)
  18. Blood tests for children are done in children's out pt's (might need to confirm with GP & call out pts to arrange time) by trained children's phlebotomist's who know all the tricks in how to reduce stress & am sure would use ametop (similar to emla). The best thing you can do is to be relaxed & confident about going in for the procedure - otherwise she'll pick up on your stress & be stressed herself. Maybe talk about plans for afterwards (so that she knows it won't last long) or a treat for afterwards. Hope this helps & that all is sorted soon x
  19. I bought a car seat on the kiddicare website (about ?40) to take away with us (reg car seat is isofix & didnt fancy lugging it around!). Checked both that & the buggy in as Bugglet's allowance. I bought carseat travel bags (?12 each) for peace of mind esp with the buggy & both came out on the carousel without any problem.
  20. Think it is - remember being told it was back from the 13th x
  21. Congrats on passing your test! I second Leeds Castle - straight forward drive (to practice your motorway skills!) & your ticket gives you free re-entry for 1yr.
  22. The leisure centre has a pay & display car park attached but don't know priced as we got the train (from Peckham Rye) to Bellingham station which is right opposite but isn't step free.
  23. Djw - no we don't, think we're equidistance from Nunhead/Brockley/Crofton Park, hubbie either walks to Brockley or gets bus to/from Peckham & I use the 484 for my commute to Camberwell. CP works well for me if travelling with toddler as step free. If we were closer to Nunhead we would use it but we're pretty close to the footbridge so CP is as viable an option.
  24. ... Bit confused how my abbreviation for London bridge turned into a smiley!
  25. We moved over to Nunhead last year & haven't looked back, still come over to ED for main shop/sainsburys, Hubbie commutes into the city from Brockley station (less than 15mins walk & on ELL + overland to LB). am also similar distance over the footbridge to Crofton Park (Blackfriers/Victoria) if not up for walking the 343 gets you to New Cross Gate in 10mins. 484 is pretty rubbish (infrequent & difficult with anything other than a narrow buggy if you've got young kids) so normally walk over the Rye to ED (& have a virtuous glow) within 25mins (door to NCR with buggy in tow). Ivydale is our closest school but watching with interest the effects of the bulge class (nursery intake is made up of siblings this year :0 ), however also curious that Haberdasher Askes is opening a primary school in the next year. What really sold the area to us is the green spaces which surround us (meaning we're not a cut through anywhere) meaning its much more peaceful than ED was (we were on Friern Rd prev) and the dimensions of the house - much bigger than you typically find in ED terraces - 3 big double bedrooms & an upstairs bathroom!
