We've got to fly with easyjet in few months and trying to suss out what our requirements'll be luggage wise (have so far avoided air travel with bugglet who'll be 20mths when we go). Any top tips on condensing luggage & do we have to pay for buggie/book it in with luggage or keep it till the gate? Thanks in advance x

Was fairly impressed with the Bluewater Santa - it's within their "Christmas in NY" thing, can book a slot online, is free spare a donation (size of which is your choice) to Demelza House Children's hospice. Seemed v well organised, and got a nice photo - we went with my best mummy mate and her daughter so got a cheaper deal on the photo as we got 2 for ?12.

Gymnastics classes for two year olds
buggie replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
There are gym "classes" starting at Crystal Palace for 18mth-3yr olds in the new year, think they'll follow the school term & are ?43 for the term (?10-11wks). hoping to start doing them after Easter as Bugglet's a bit too young at the mo. From what the lady in toddlerworld said, there'll be 2 teachers & more equipment/slightly more structure than regular toddlerworld. -
Would try different things, but make sure you add it on dose by dose rather than to the bottle (know stating the obv!). A bit of honey or sugar will prob take the bitterness out (and is prob what's been cut out of meds since we were kids!). Make sure you don't water it down/add too much stuff to it as it'll then be difficult to get the whole dose down/won't know how much they've taken. Fingets crossed it clears soon x

:-) fantastic news... Can't imagine anyone more cut out to do MW'ry xx

I have to rely on the 484 to get me to and from work - the countdown website is helpful to some extent, but there has been occasion where a bus listed on there has failed to materialise, added stress as I have 15mth old bugglet with me, but I'm much luckier than hubbie who has collect her from nursery and wait up to 20mins for a 484 to show up and then negotiate getting on, hoping to find a seat. Find it amazing that the same company runs the 343 as it's so much more reliable... is it a funding issue? 484 being a shorter route/single decker is it not as profitable so maybe not seen to be worth so much effort?

No advice, but Bugglet (who's pretty much same age) does the same occasionally, hasn't pulled any eyelashes out though, she also pulls at her hair - not so hard to pull it out but hard enough that she must feel it. She hasn't got any dolls (only teddies/penguins etc) so hasn't "played" with eyelashes... Guessed (as with most things!) that it's a phase while she susses out what the deal is with hair!

Free 15hrs at nursery: 2.5yrs or 3yrs?
buggie replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
GinaG3 = there are regulations stipulating (very strictly) the ratio's needed of staff to children, so it wouldn't matter if it was a school nursery or private nursery that Mini-Gina was attending - there would still be the same ratio of staff to children and think it would be unlikely for either to offer a higher than recommended ratio (think it's something like 1:4 children 2-3yrs and 1:8 for 3-7yr olds). -
Another vote for toddlerworld, free parking and a cafe there which isn't the best but ok if you know getting home without your child falling asleep will be pushing it (there's always a pasta & sauce option for kids) It's been shut for a few weeks (think there was an olympic training camp or something!) but reopens 12th Dec & isn't open Fri's.

Any advice from those who've come through the other side?!
buggie replied to buggie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you all for the advice which is hugely appreciated & taken on board - relaxing & remembering that tomorrow is another day! Weirdly feeling relaxed that we're going out for lunch with friends... Find new surroundings bit less stressful, plus she can have bits of our food so wider variety & will def try spoiling with food + tv! Fuschia - Bugglet's exactly the same... Just into 9-12mths stuff although the trousers hang off her waist! My pet hate is people who say that being petite it's lucky she's a girl... A petite boy'd be just as good :-) -
Any advice from those who've come through the other side?!
buggie replied to buggie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Problem is I'm really not sure she's getting anywhere near enough :'( Today she's had about 8 spoons of weetabix, < 1/4 a slice of toast mid morning (my breakfast) totally refused lunch (pasta, mixed veg & cheese sauce) but had a yogurt. has eaten a couple of small slices of apple & has now completely refused cheese on toast & beans and put a carrot stick in her mouth but didnt chew it, well under 1/2 what we'd normally expect. Fluid wise she's had <100ml toddler milk, <100ml water, an innocent smoothie. She gets in a stink of a mood & won't stay in her highchair & it's making us all dread her mealtimes :-( Don't feel I can rely on HV's for advice, am sure while triggered by illness there isn't a medical reason, unsure what my next step for help could be (am really hoping I can look back & laugh at how stressed this has made me soon). -
Background - Bugglet (now 14mths) is in the midst of (what I'm guessing is) getting use to the new and exciting germs at nursery, she's had cold/cough/cold and for the last week has had daily temp = typically in the afternoon and only going up to 38-38.3C but utterly miserable when it happens... have seen GP and ended up getting her seen at work by Paeds after having to cut my shift short due to her having a fever at nursery - all looks very viral, and to be fair, she does seem to be improving. BUT, her appetite has become utterly atrocious. In the last week, the only things she is consistantly eating are yogurts and Ella's/innocent fruit smoothies. Even bananas which could always be relied upon are on the whole being rejected. We're lucky to get more than 4 spoons of breakfast (typically weetabix & banana), lunch and dinner we're lucky to get more than a few spoons/generally nose gets turned up at everything and anything that would usually be a big hit :( Feeling bit stressed as she's tiny anyway, and when weighed on Tues she'd lost 400g since I last weighed her a month beforehand :-S I'm also wondering if her night wakings (typically x2 a night when had been sleeping through) could be related to hunger rather than (as I'd thought) the cold or teething (soothing on it's own or +/- calpol/brufen/teething powder seems to get her back to sleep within 20 mins). My gut instinct is that now isn't the time to start trying to introduce new foods/routines, but am feeling really stressed trying to suss out what I can do to try and resolve the situation (guessing that's the nurse in me!), feel really daft given that on the whole she seems ok/getting better. So, Mum's (and Dad's) of EDF - can any of you reassure me that she will come through/anything I can do to help her come out the other side? Worry about things I've seen about children/adults with poor diets/weird eating habits that all seem to start with a history of them being ok until they were ill when a toddler...!

Paracetamol - too often, too careless?
buggie replied to enjoy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
In A&E this is always done before prescribing paracetamol/brufen (unless it's an emergency/broken limb so unable to sit/stand on scales). With GP's I don't think most even have scales in their room most of the time, would've thought it would always be a useful thing to do with any patient (adult or child) whenever their seen. -
Paracetamol - too often, too careless?
buggie replied to enjoy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Agreed Saffron - saw a pack from France once that had kilos marked on the syringe so you just drew the paracetamol up to their weight (so no big mathmatical equation to get through first!). Although think that could cause problems in children who are carrying more weight than they should (& parents are sometimes in denial about this!). Also, once children are over 1yr or so children aren't weighed as frequently & parents often don't have much idea of how much they weigh. -
Oh no - seems daft for the line to be the middle of the road rather than along the back gardens :-(

Feel your pain - I've moved within their catchment but was initially told by FHR receptionists that we weren't... No.2 is still only an idea on the Bugglet's good days, but the thought of being without the Oakwood team was worrying! Might be worth triple checking on the nhs website that your definitely beyond their catchment.

Where to go on summer hol with toddler & NB?!
buggie replied to rebeccaben's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Just incase you'd consider a UK based break, I'd like to throw Bosinver Farm into the mix, we went with our 1yr old in Sept and have already booked to return next year. The accomodation is fab - small cottages which have beautiful views & none feel overlooked (they provide everything you'll need so only need to take clothes/favourite toys. There's a soft play/play barn and you get to hand feed animals with Farmer Dave every morning and there's a solar heated outside pool. We went for a week but have booked for a fortnight next year so we can enjoy a few days just on the farm without missing out on what else Cornwall can offer! -

drinking alcohol with children in the house
buggie replied to hellosailor's topic in The Family Room Discussion
There's the (as funny) assumption made (and then validated by other posters) that if you're in a pub you must be drinking alcohol - thus the whole all parent's in pubs are getting sloshed and ignoring the needs of their children... I was hitting the hard stuff on Saturday lunchtime in the Bishop - OJ and lemonade in the same glass!! Is infuriating as alot of the posters give the impression that they only notice parents/children when they do things to annoy them and so assume that's all parents. Need to work out how to build my resistance to the threads that annoy... it seems the more annoying the more I can't stop myself looking, seething and sitting on my hands (is really tricky to close browser without them!). -

This sounds fab, but we've got swimming classes on a Monday :( if it was successful enough to go to a 2nd day can I put a request in for Wednesday?! (considers trying to change swimming day!) -
Interesting reading - Bugglet isn't exactly fussy (there's only a couple of things I've known straight away she didn't like). But, her appetite does seem to be tiny and she grows bored/starts refusing sometimes after a very small amount (if we're doing a Hipp meal I'm pleased to get half in). Course she'll always be happy for a yogurt/smoothie/fruit & doesn't seem hungry/complain, but find it difficult to deal with the amount of food I'm wasting as we're more into "proper" food than mushed up stuff. If I do give small portion & she demolishes it her nose is turned up at seconds - she's noticably growing so know it can't do much harm but ensuring she does get a fair balance in meals is sending me a bit doolaly!

20 week scan - baby has kidney problem
buggie replied to pommie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
No direct experience, but have had lots of kids coming through A&E who it's not until asking about other health probs that "oh they've only got one kidney"/"they've got a duplex kidney so take trimethoprim" and seems to not get in their way otherwise. trimethoprim's an anti biotic that's sometimes given for urine infections and (as was with Vesti's son) can be used at a low dose as a prophylactic to reduce the risk/severity of an infection.
