Going up Lordship Lane from the police station to the library will give you a fairly decent incline. Otherwise, try running up to the top of Goodrich Road and then up Donkey Alley, back down Dunstan's from Dawson's Heights and then back around again a few times for hill training.

I live near to FHR and have seen the bollards in their latest colours and when they were a lot less "accomplished"; they're better now. What cheeses me off about that stretch, though, is the higgledy-piggledy pavement. Can't the council pay for it all to be finished in a uniform way? And is there any way that that blue and yellow shop near the barber's could be spruced up a bit?

Foxes - and rats - can rip apart those flimsy refuse bags that street cleaners sometimes leave next to rubbish bins for later collection. If you see one of these bags not on top of the bin but next to it, just pick it up and put it on top. It'll help reduce unpleasant spillages and might stop a rodent or two from having a free dinner.

I asked Picturehouse Cinemas about coming to SE22 about six years ago, and got a reply from a woman who said they would look into it. Perhaps, years later, it will actually happen.

When the Chinese doctor was in situ at the butcher's you mention, she wanted to get rid of the tiles that featured cattle etc from when the shop was originally a butcher's shop. She was astounded when I asked her to keep them as they were historical as well as attractive; she thought them ugly and old-fashioned. I'm glad she kept them, now that the shop is back to being a butcher's.

Try Strada for good, affordable pizzas or Tas, the middle eastern place. Shake Shack is good but it will be - if the NYC experience I had - busy and more like an upscale McD's than a pub. NB - Five Guys burgers are large, so go for the mini option if they have it here in the UK.

Went about three weeks ago after a long absence and had a great time. The fish was good, the chips too and the mushy peas were spot-on. The service was prompt and friendly, the wine was cool and totally acceptable, and the child portion was good value and enjoyed by the eight year old. It wasn't too busy and therefore not noisy. I'd go again.

JohnL - Agreed. Although I didn't witness this event I've had plenty of times to wonder - sometimes aloud - just why the coppers come mob-handed to the most trivial event. And don't get me started on why PCSOs can never be seen alone - always in twos and sometimes in threes.

Burma is a delight and easy to get to from Bangkok. I was there in 2004 and had a great time. Rangoon, Inle Lake and Bagan are all must-sees; a good ten days is a minimum. It's not a southeast asian party destination, like some parts of Thailand, Vietnam and Laos have become, so he'd need to get that out his system - if at all - in BKK/Samui etc.

Hang around any convenient broom cupboard and wait for Boris Becker to pass by.

Anyone queued for tickets for one-the-day matches at Wimbledon? Easier towards the beginning of the tournament (Monday 24th) than later? Any advice as to what time to get there?

Saffron - There is no universal rule that says people have to take their cumbersome and bulky prams/scooters etc and then expect there to be somewhere for them to be placed. It's like people who drop litter, saying 'well, there's no bin nearby'. Common sense should rule. Don't expect there to be a place for you and everyone else's pram/buggy/scooter. Anyway, I doubt very much that prams get nicked in broad daylight in SE22 from outside chi-chi cafes.

You and me both. I've complained to the shops themselves, to the councillors and to the police on the streets but it never changes. Perhaps deliveries are allowed on alternate sides of the streets depending on the time of day, despite the yellow lines, but who knows? Try talking to James the councillor who will put you in contact with the right person. If not, try asking the drivers of the merrily parked vehciles. Good luck with that!

Buggies and scooters are welcome - welcome to be left at the doorstep or on the patio. Trying to lug a minibus-sized pram into a small premises that serves scaldingly hot drinks is really not a great idea. It's common sense and regard for others, two principles that seem to be less apparent in SE22 and elsewhere.

It's a disgrace that it should have overrun and by such a long time. I appreciate that a few weeks might be the norm but a whole year, and counting? Sheesh!

On Goodrich Road outside the school there use to be zig-zag lines. They were removed and I was told by the school that they were to be replaced with another form of 'deterrent'. The road is busier than ever, especially when the children are there. Any update, James, on why the zig-zags were removed and whether they will be replaced? Thanks.

I admire the idea of making money from something that someone else has been designated 'rubbish' - by putting it in a skip, for example. I don't like the idea of someone poking around in a front garden with the assumption that anything in there was ripe for the taking. I'll keep my eyes peeled and tackle her if I see her again.

Sunday, 0810: A woman got out of a white van, came to my house, looked inside/into the front garden but then clocked I was sitting in the front room. She scarpered and got into the vehicle, heading down towards Barry Road. (I live opposite the school.) It looked like the van - transit van-style - was at least ten years old and had signage on the back doors removed. She was no more than 5'5'', slim, had long, wavy dark hair and a southern European/Mid-East skin tone.
