Renata - I think this is your ward: the electricity substation at the 63/363 bus stop on Forest Hill Road near to Dunstan's Road, so nicely and artistically painted, has been vandalised with large, red writing on two sides, at least. Please could you have it removed by the council o as to prevent any more happening, at least in the short term, and to respect the artist who spent so much time and effort making this otherwise ugly building a lot less so. Thanks

A 10k run or a romp in a sandpit is not the same as two (or is it three) days of turf-churning, ear-thumping music and all the traffic and litter that goes with it. I can see why it is attractive to some and annoying to others but to pretend it is a run-of-the-mill event doesn't wash.

Most of the hoardings covering up the one-storey shops/businesses that were there (where the barbershop is) on Barry Road to Peckham Rye are down. Interesting to see the old frontages, including those pasted, typed-up flyers that someone used to spend time writing and sticking to any available surface about ten years ago.

Does anyone know whether any of the schools - state or indy - have an officer or at least a staff member whose job it is to look at traffic-reduction plans, etc.? If not that, then do they do anything at all to reduce traffic.

Some people are not as highly evolved along the astral plane, L! Some people find it annoying and distracting because it is, not because they choose to make it so.

In DV today, again, around usual peak hours (7.45--8.45 or thereabouts) it was like a Sunday in the 1970s. THe amount of traffic that is generated by people going to and from schools has to be massive. (I understand that some of the lack of traffic is also down to people who are on holiday and don't ferry kids to and from the many schools, state and indy, we have around here, but the schools really do have an obligation to do so much more to encourage/bribe/?? their pupils' parents to not using vehicles to get their offspring to school and back.)

How about this - both the customers and the organsiation itself are teh problem and both can work to solve the problem! DOes that work for you? It does for me.

well, if you know you are going to be charged for water use and continue to waste it, then that's up to you. (where you = anyone, not the poster of any reply here before anyone gets their knickers in a knot!)
-
THe advantage is that you won't waste water. Using more than you need not only wastes the water itself but also the power needed to clean it up, etc. I think you will save money because you will be using only what you need and will be mindful of waste though I can understand that being told by Thames Water that it doesn't like waste is a bit annoying. (At least, though, this move is proof it wants to reduce wastage.)

New electric double-deck buses will be running on route 63
Nigello replied to jazzer's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The sunroof is tinted to stop the bus getting overheated. Likewise, the roof will be painted white, like pretty much all TfL buses, to reflect heat from sunlight away. Windows open as well as close! -

I would like any replacement to start off with the mantra that policing is for all, and not deep dive into the ever-increasing, often competing and sometimes overlapping minority interests too much. (I tick a fair few boxes, so no need to take pot shots based on ignorance.) I don't want rainbow-coloured patrol cars, etc. more than I want decent training based on common decency and respect and/or police presence and interaction outside of when it is "necessary", ie. when a crime has been committed or there is a public order situation.

Agreed, Jazzer. If anyone wants to cast aspersions and/or praise to the skies, just hop on one for a short while and then report your findings! (I agree that it would be better if the buses were able to get to HOP but that is a different kettle of fish.) -

Straw poll - idling engines (buses, coaches, vans, etc.)
Nigello replied to Nigello's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Nice way to try to justify your law breaking. In the same way you seem to think you have a right to idle your engine (because it?s a bit nippy and you have offspring) I like to think I have the right to ask those doing the illegal, antisocial and polluting activity to stop. Difference is, I?m not breaking any laws and I do have every right to strike up a conversation with anyone, even though it may irk him or her. -

Have a ride on one and see whether there is room. Looked plenty big enough to me. -

They?re great - especially the sunroof! The windows are large, the seats have power sockets and bus stopping buttons and the visual display showing route and interchanges excellent. -

then put those worries/accusations directly ot the GP surgery and say you will include their reply in your letter to an MP. At least then you will have done the most you can adn will have put your claims directly to the doctor or practice manager. I just think you are claiming a lot fo things without anything other than a supposition gleaned from a series of events you have decided add up to your conclusion. Such claims could worry other peopel who up till now may have not even thought about their health being hijacked by a "deliberate strategy" to manage the practice's backlog.

Straw poll - idling engines (buses, coaches, vans, etc.)
Nigello replied to Nigello's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I purposely did not mention where the coaches were (apart from the Gallery Road ones) to at least try to stop it being a state/private school thing. The atmosphere is still polluted wherever the coach or car is sitting or going to/coming from. I think contacting the coach/bus/firm is a better idea and being constructive - ie. using it as an opportunity to remind all drivers everywhere of their legal obligations - is likely to have a better effect than a complaint with no suggestion of ways to improve. -
To abuse an animal for "fun" is one thing. To put it on a well-used social media platform is another. To do both when you are an extremely well-known and (hitherto) respected sportsman is bizarre and very self-destructive. I hope he gets fined and loses his livelihood (for a short period of time).

Another one today - Clarkes near a school, on a DYL! I asked politely (please and thank you, thumbs up sign) but did not stick around to see whether the driver complied with the law. Endemic? -
The fact we can bus hop for the price of one trip in any one hour helps do away with the idea of bus times, to an extent. I know sometimes you need a specific bus but given that the second, third, fourth etc. trip in the hour are free you can take one, get off and pick up another to get where you are going. I think the buses are on the whole pretty good but the drivers, I think, deserve a bit more pay.

I know some may think having one's bloods and sugars, height and weight a bit infra dig, but they can help in understanding what is going on with your body and what may happen to it; also, it helps build up a national picture. I am happy to go and be seen by a pharmacist, nurse, doctor, etc. for annual reviews, etc. If I have any questions about their qualifications or their role, I ask questions and if I don't get the answer I want, I ask to see a doctor there and then. No need for screeds and screeds of online venting. If you think your visit was sub-par, ask how you can feedback. Stay well!
