Sexual harassment accusations as a new McCarthyism? Discuss

This and McCarthyism are very little alike. Sexual harassment of any kind is illegal in the workplace, and has been for a long time. It's sad how much has been unsaid for so long. -

Nothing went wrong with the country at/before referendum. The referendum just made us see our arse. But the "London intelligentsia" and the "elite bubble" will organise the appearance of Brexit, while doing the only sane self-preserving thing it can, not actually leaving. You're welcome Sunderland.

Any opinions on the Saravanaa Bhavan chain? Some North of the River colleagues swear by the Ilford branch. Anyone been to the Croydon or Tooting ones?

His beliefs have made him attractive in this supposedly post-ideological world. I just meant, whether or not he can some of what he wants under EU rules is besides the point for him.
-
Not disputing your claim but whenever someone says "can't be done under EU law/rules" these days I wince. (Like all those things we couldn't do because of the Eurocrats but actuall could if someone had pulled their fingers out and worked within the rules). Corbyn's anti-EU stance is ideological, not practical, and in that regard similar to the Tory swivel-eyed loons.

We should really all just punch ourselves in the face until the EU gives us what we want.

Zackly - my experience of "the Knowledge" is that it's pretty sparse in the burbs (which it shouldn't be as it's a pretty long x-mile radius of Charing Cross). Then there's the "not on my way home mate", "not going that way" and all the other bollocks. Not to mention that as a cycke commuter, I find them the one group of road users I'm constantly justified in giving a wide berth (on account of random road behaviour). Uber's a big player, but I bet pound for pound they're much less dangerous and much more compliant to regs than a lot of the local mini cab offices (E&C and Brixton offices late at night in years gone by spring to mind). And workers' rights? I hope the anti-Uber bores are consistent in their boycotts....coz there are far, far worse offenders.

Preparation? Relax - it's only the future of 60 million at stake, it'll be fine. Everyone can just retreat to the country piles and use their rainy day Swiss funds until this all blows over in case it goes awry.

Thinking of wearing gloves on my cycle into, already have the long sleeve shirt on.

Should we also make news run after the watershed so kids aren't exposed to the idea that the world we live in is a violent one?

It might ultimately be the thing that saves the planet (with our greed for things causing all kinds of mayhem and exposing physical limits). Transitioning into a virtual reality might both keep the mess we've made out of sight, and let the resources replenish. OR...we might reach singularity and become obsolete. But less meta, and I'm not sure how much this is my becoming a grumpy old man, it's interesting how with so much information at the fingertips, general levels of ignorance aren't improving.

Anyway, apart from Ganapati and Babur - what other gems are there in the SE postcodes that are a notch above most of the places mentioned earlier?

When was the last time a senior politican made such a public statement of their personal beliefs, bound to ruffle feathers? I'm sure there are several very Catholic MPs, who'd think better of it....

And do the dogs start barking too? I'll get my hat.

Foxy has a fair point though - if for a lot of people a curry is something to mop up the booze with, it's possible such folks don't pay attention to the food. Not that anyone on this thread has exhibited that kind of behaviour.

"Ironic" - Alanis Morisette. ETA: Oh...lines. I guess this: "It's a black fly in your Chardonnay"

Cunning plan to aid our thriving manufacturers and primary industry to make their exports more competitive. Taking back control. Strong and stable.

No expert, but I rate Babur in this part of town, mainly because the different dishes taste distinctly different, and not overbearingly stodgy. Authenticity can be overrated.

And here's an informative discussion off stack exchange on this very topic....https://cooking.stackexchange.com/questions/15331/wok-carbon-steel-or-cast-iron
