  1. Charlie, The prohibition of all drugs has been an absolute massive failure. Almost all illegal substances are pretty much freely available. The "War On Drugs" is lost. You/me/your children can easily go and score whatever is wanted. It will take brave politician to admit this and to then drive forward a new way of thinking. Surely legalised drugs, with licensed vendors and applied age restrictions is a fresh and possibly more successful way of tackling the problem? I refer to the tired example of the Nederlands, which has a lower percentage of it's youth using cannabis on a regular basis, when compared to the UK. I just can't see a logical argument against trying another way, when the current attempt is such a miserable failure. Horse.
  2. If you forward this thread to everyone in your address book Bill Gates will personally donate ?1 (one) to the running of this forum. It's true, I've tried it and I GUARANTEE that it works!!!
  3. Did this actually happen to you, Lizzy, or is it something that you have cut and pasted from an email?
  4. I'm intrigued by this claim to excellent Margaritas. I have absolutely no qualms about saying that I make the best margaritas this side of the Thames. I must venture there to try one and then laugh in the bartenders face*. *or possibly congratulate him/her.
  5. luddite Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > chris kennedy had refused a buy out from > the guys who run innocent{fruitrinks and smoothies > } Luddite, not quite true but you are on the right track. A very good friend of mine who used to work for innocent tried to talk to Kennedys, with a view to investing in them and trying to re launch them into their former glory. It would have been an independant thing rather than directly linked to innocent. Did you read the piece in Time Out? It was slightly misleading. Anyway, they absolutely didn't want to know and now that the closure is public news many subsequent offers have been made to no avail.
  6. Probably home made meatballs cooked in my incredibly tasty 3 hour tomato sauce with some form of pasta and parmigiana and a nice chianti.
  7. I cycle from The Castle PH to Earls Court/West Brompton station. It's about 9 miles each way (based on the AA route planner) and takes anything between 40 and 50 mins depending on traffic and my level of energy. I ride a Specialized Hardrock 2007 and am currently using very thick mountain bike tyres, which slow me down a little. Route: CPR to Townley Road, footpath along the back of JAGS school, down Denmark Hill past Kings College Hospital, Camberwell New Road, Oval, Vauxhall Bridge, Grosvenor Road, Chelsea Embankment, Cheyne Walk, Cremorne Road, Gunter Grove and then cut through West Brompton Cemetary to arrive at my office. I wear a helmet and HI-viz vest plus excellent lights on the bike and swap my clothes between shorts/t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms/ waterproof jacket depending on conditions. Have had many run ins with other road users, usually wankers who overtake at junctions and then turn left, but the worst has been with Bendy Buses near the Oval - was forced out of the bus lane and onto the pavement by one, and another clipped me as he overtook on a corner. They really don't care and when challenged usually just kiss their teeth and make hand gestures as if I shouldn;t have been there in the first place. Complaints to the operating company just end up with an email which says "we have dealt with this matter which we take very seriously but cannot tell you the outcome as it would breach the confidentiality agreement we have with our staff". Now accept it as part of cycling to work - The police don't get involved unless somebody is seriously hurt or killed which is a little on the frustrating side but if my very heavy lock just happens to clip the drivers window/wing mirror or dent their bodywork, well that's just a terrible shame and maybe they'll drive a bit more responsibly in future.
  8. I'm curious to try this. I used to drink Beamish Red when at university, but usually because it was one of the cheaper options at the bar. There may well have been a reason for that.
  9. I think I'll go to the game on the 4th December.
  10. but the motor cars aren't, in most cases, driving on the pavement. The point of this is that the guy was cycling where he shouldn't have been and as a result somebody is dead.
  11. Hmm, didn't quite understand the comment about the middle class either. What's wrong with wanting to buy a good quality product at a reasonable price? I'm not particularly well off but when it comes to eating I'd much rather queue on a Saturday afternoon to buy good meat for the week, enough for 2 meals, and eat vegetarian the rest of the week than buy 7 days worth of protein enhanced, water injected, mass bred cutlets. It's nothing to do with class aspiration and everything to do with wanting to know that what I put into my body is good for me. It is a temple, after all :-S edit: I know I said in another thread I was off to LL for some drinks...well I am, I DO have a life...just waiting on some body to turn up:-$
  12. Agree with Mattham that the Magdala do good pizzas. Haven't been there for a while though. Is it the still the lady pizza chef? The last time I ate there she was really quite stressed and abruptly asked a large group who were celebrating a birthday (in a very nice fashion I add) to keep the noise down. Er, it's pub! She also burnt my pizza beyond recognition. The excuse was that she was under pressure that night. Happy ending: I complained and they were good enough to replace it, not charge for it AND offer me a free ale. Thumbs up to the Magdala. And they show the football. Two thumbs up. Also agree with Kford that of all the chain Italian places Strada is the lesser evil. I think people have to accept that where there's money the chains will follow and an addition as such, maybe not now but in the future, is inevitable. Still, it might ensure that there's always a free table or 2 in Franklins.
  13. That's a useful nugget of information. Thanks, Nero. It is slightly strange how it seems to be the bulkier items that get waylaid, where the flat envelopes make it through. Different sorting process, perhaps? Anyway, it's Friday, I shouldn't be fretting about the post. I'm off for a drink or 2 on LL.
  14. Hello Bishop, you may find this thread of interest. Seems quite a few peoples postal service, myself included is affected by whatever problem the sorting office has. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,65928 Thanks for the link, i'm having a look now.
  15. Cycle paths in general are a joke. They usually double up as on street parking/bus lanes/bus stops, thus rendering them useless, or are offered as a token section of the pedestrian walkway (AKA pavement). In this latter example the pedestrians are often blind to the green colouring and the white bicycle motif, once again rendering the cycle path useless or exceptionally dangerous in cases when it can be used. I cycle to and from work everyday, through 5 of London's boroughs, clocking up about 88 miles per week. This journey could be made immensely easier, safer and more enjoyable by the provision of adequate cycleways.
  16. It's the worst postal service I've encountered in a long time. Doesn't usually arrive until midday, we ALWAYS get our neighbours post and have to redeliver it, despite telling the postie on numerous occasions the difference between the 2 addresses (they are on opposite sides of the street). I'm still waiting for a book which was dispatched on 02/11 and a DVD box set dispatched 1 week ago. Never have a problem with credit card statements and bills arriving but the fun stuff such as books, dvds and games all seem to take forever. Also, quite often find a card left for parcels when I have been at home at the time of delivery. Slack and Lazy, methinks.
  17. Gah, my X-box hard drive died last week. Instead of paying Microsoft to repair it I'm toying with the idea of forking out for a 360. What puts me off though, is the limited number of games from the original xbox that can be played on the 360. I thought that this would be a given for all games. Not that I need a massive amount of encouragement. Edit: Rolo Tomasi, I've sent you a PM about the event you have mentioned.

Sorry CWALD, would gladly lend it to you but we d/l'ed it all and have had to delete it episode by episode to free up HD space. I can point you in the right direction if you want to d/l it all. Just give a PM.
  19. so Sean, is the game any good? I've only read average reviews which is shame 'cos the mock up costume they had in the window of game on oxford street kicked ass and gave me high hopes for this.
  20. hmmm, might come to this but only if ive managed to get over the shock of the foxtons incident and stopped taking the xanax.
  21. Snorky, Are you a doctor? Have you witnessed such symptons before? What can be done about this syndrome? Is there a cure? Please help me.
  22. Ah, the wire. One of the best shows ever. Without wanting to repeat what has already been said...I was recommended this by a friend, plus much repetition by charlie brooker in the Graniaud, and after the first 2 episodes both myself and missus Horsebox were hooked. Within a month we are now almost at the end of Season 3. Character wise: McNulty is a selfish asshole, but portrayed so well, Omar is one of my faves, his dark deapan humour and downright ruthlessness win out, plus herc and carver are a fantastic double act (apparantly i resemble Herc :-S). What really struck it for me in S3 was the reality of the whole comstat and police performance issue, something that I have been very very involved with in the past. Do your selves a favour and watch it!
  23. Yes, Snorky. I am very traumatised by this, so much that i've been signed off work for another 6 months and I've already got a team of hotshot lawyers on the case who have guaranteed me enough compensation to actually buy the property! Funny how things work out.;-) P.S. thanks for the legal bits.
  24. Hahaha, entertaining stuff. I wonder if the office junior is getting a fair bit of stick for this?
