  2. First there was a big Sainsburys, then the plot about 500 yds away became available (that was suitable for a small supermarket), so Sainsburys bought in order to stop Tescos buying it. Then the plot of the old garage between the two became available so Tescos bought that. It's a war out there.
  3. They have are sponsoring the forum for a month and have offered a 10% discount for forum users, either myself or The Administrator will put an official posting up tomorrow.
  4. my blue bin's empty today, but the brown bin's still full (even after reporting through the website 2 weeks ago and 2 emails to Southwark). Anyone want a bin full of leaves and twigs?

  6. there's 87 pubs in clapham and 11 pubs in East Dulwich
  7. lozzyloz Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Clapham is probably what ED will look like in 10 years time, like it or loathe it. I lived in Clapham before moving here and I don't agree. East Dulwich doesn't have a tube, a cinema, wide pavements, a massive Sainsburys on the main street or a major arterial road going through it. I can't see those things happening in the next 10 years, places that are getting the proposed East London tube might but I think ED's going to keep its status as a recognised independent British state. It won't be easy and there will be a few "undesirables" move in but it won't be the end of East Dulwich. And I can see the slight similarity with Friday night drinking crew (a few blokes wearing pink polo shirts) but again ED doesn't have as many pubs, bars and clubs. And to be honest I'd rather have the relatively harmless sloney ponies from Clapham than, say, crack bitch whores from Harlesden. But that's just me.
  8. Blimey, there's no need for an accusation like that old bean, the people on here have been terribly nice, with their friendly advice and what, what. But, most importantly, have you ever been in a cockpit before?
  9. Ask the main perpetrator his name, then let us know by posting his name and description on here. We can then walk past him and say "stop harassing my sister Tom/Dick/Harry/whatever" and he'll think you've got loads of family. I might even do it with a fedora hat, long long coat and a Sicilian/Brooklyn accent.

Yes it is a fact Maurice, heroin addicts tend to feed their habit with petty crime such as shoplifting rather than murder or manslaughter. And sorry, I don't really understand your elitism comment.

Maurice Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I always believed my neighbour smoking on cigs or drinking was far less likely to kill me for cash but he's more likely to hurt you if she's pissed, in nearly half of all violent incidents (that's about 1.25 million), victims believed offenders to be under the influence of alcohol. And your neighbour was drinking and smoking whilst driving you might become one of the 3,000 people who are killed or seriously injured each year in drink drive collisions. Then of course there's the ?5 billion of tax payers money spent every year treating those with smoking related illness which isn't killing you for cash but is killing themselves for your cash. And addicts tend not to be the people who are violent, it's the people who are supplying them who have the most to gain from taking advantage of the illegal market who use violence. Your neighbour, if she was a smackhead is more likely to break into your place to rob you which isn't that same as killing you for cash, which I can appreciate is an easy generalisation to make if you read the Daily Mail or similar.
  13. Went to Ganapati last night after having read the reviews on here, totally convinced. Had the Kerela Boatman's Alleppy (?) which was awesome and the service was brilliant. Oh and the forum influences quite a few things for me, I like hearing the local gossip and knowing what's happening, walking down the street and saying hi to people I've met through it and makes me feel more in touch with the area I live in. Which is nice.
  14. I wouldn't pay that and I agree with Bellenden Belle about the shopping trend, but at least we do have a choice when comes down to shopping and so we don't have to pay that price. Personally instead of going to a deli to buy a small bottle of fancy cold pressed greek olive oil for ?7, the Dulwich Supermarket (opposite the err, ED Deli) sells big, litre bottles of it for less than a fiver. In the East Dulwich Deli, a litre of normal Extra Virgin olive oil is ?8.60, in the shop opposite a litre of normal Extra Virgin olive oil is ?3.99 [edited once]
  15. I think that it was obviously a mistake putting the stalls too close together, but saying that the organisers were snubbing families is a bit daft, I suggest you go and get your entrance money back. I understand it was the first event they've done and I'm sure they'll adjust the spacing for next time.
  16. I expect it was a traffic warden issuing the ticket, I believe police don't issue tickets unless a vehicle's parked on a red route or causing an obstruction. And nice one for getting involved Louisa, in incidents like that people tend to think "well if they're not helping then I won't" which is odd.
  17. I agree with James. I have contacted Caffe Nero head office twice now asking what's going on and they have never replied so I don't know the full story but in my opinion (taken from a previous post) closing it down now would take away a popular service and mean there's an empty shop unit on Lordship Lane. Caffe Nero have done wrong there's no denying that, so would it be possible to grant them A3 but fine them a huge amount for the offence, say ?223,000 which would have to go directly into our community? I've met people who are adamant that Caffe Nero must close down because they've done wrong but is closing them down the only option? It would be great if it could be turned to the East Dulwich community's advantage i.e keep it open and have the money to put back into community wardens, street cleaners, general improvements etc. Nero would have have been punished and other companies wouldn't try it on because they know they'd get a whopping fine.
  18. Did someone make the police officer aware of the incident as it sounds like he/she was obviously busy doing their job at the time? 20+ people in Goose Green at 2pm? I don't think I've ever seen that many people on there (except when there's a fair) [edited once]

  22. Believe it or not, The wire already has its own discussion here. Which reminds me, I have been lent the series 1 box set so I shall now go and try and episode or two...
  23. My initial thoughts are questions about the Ruislip scheme: How much does it cost if you stay over an hour? How much does a resident's permit cost? If my friends want to visit and park for the day, how does that work? Does it work? Is the parking better? Are the residents and businesses happy about it? What if you have more than one or two cars per house? Will it stop the bloke in the Sony shop from selling his cars on Lordship Lane and on the pavement outside his shop?

  25. you're right, there is only one girlfriend. And back on topic again, yes the lady who obtains money by deception does mention that she has ID which I thought at the time was odd. If she does call on someone's door, ask to see her ID, and if it does have her picture on it take it off her, shut the door, re-open door and throw bucket of water (optional) and then let the police have the picture.
