Congratulations to the Bishop. After more than 400 votes it has won the prestigious title of The Best Bar in East Dulwich 2007 as voted for by you, the users of the forum. Personally I can remember when it was the Forresters and in need of a special touch and so credit goes to all those involved for turning it into the successful place to drink and eat it is now. Their magnificent trophy will be with them in the next couple of weeks once it has been engraved so please do go in, admire it and congratulate them. And of course commiserations to all those bars and pubs who didn't win, there's always next year but for now the moment belongs to The Bishop - The Best Bar in East Dulwich 2007.

Why not get a little radio, plug in some headphones, tune it to Radio 5 and then go to the Montpellier? You can then watch and listen, everyone's a winner. Except Tottenham.

it's known as screaming vixens when Ms Fox has got the horn and let's everyone know about it. A carefully aimed shotgun usually puts a stop to it.

I see there's a letter on show on the door of the excellent East Dulwich Supermarket (opposite ED Deli), which says please don't sell flour and eggs to kids under the age of 16 in the coming week before bonfire night. I don't think it was written by the poh-leece but a local safety community group, I get the impression some people are expecting "minor warfare" in the next week.

Sugar? (New shop by Goose Green roundabout)
Mark replied to djw's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I believe it's related to a shop in Camberwell called Suger Momma which sells ladies clothes and accessories. There is a thread about it here in the Lounge which goes off on a tangent about chav with a law degree and the green party. -
A bride on her wedding night says to her husband. "I must confess darling, I was a hooker". He says, "That's alright dear. Your past is your past but I must admit that I find it erotic. Tell me about it". The wife says "My name was Nigel and I played for London Irish".

Clapham was first, then here, then Stoke Newington. The Clapham one has now closed and been replaced by a different outfit called the Fish Club. Very nice it is too by all accounts. Not sure if the Stoke Newington one's still going.

Hi you just register and that's it, read, post and enjoy. And yes, some people meet up every month and it's open to anyone and everyone, people just turn up, put faces to names, meet some other locals and have a few drinks. It's a surprisingly broad range of people who go to the drinks and I would suggest going to the next one and saying hello.

apart from a dog or a crow with a flick knife, what can I put in a garden to stop cats "being natural" in it.

possible witnesses of an attack on friday night....
Mark replied to JayOrigin's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
'Shocking' attack after night out with mates (taken from http://icsouthlondon.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0200southlondonheadlines/tm_headline=shocking-attack-after-night-out-with-mates&method=full&objectid=19973260&siteid=50100-name_page.html) Oct 19 2007 A MAN was left with "shocking" injuries when he was assaulted after a night out with mates. The 31-year-old was attacked outside Budgens supermarket on Lordship Lane, Dulwich, shortly after midnight on Friday. Cops say he was about to go home when he was set upon and his jaw broken. James Pyemont from Southwark CID said: "This was a horrendous assault - the X-ray of the victim's injury is truly shocking. "There were many potential witnesses in the area at the time. I urge anyone who saw the incident to come forward and assist. "It is vital that members of the public work alongside the police to curb such violent and antisocial behaviour. We must work together to make the streets of London safer. Anyone with any information is asked to call Southwark CID on 020 7232 6166 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. -

Good to see this petition (a worthwhile one) has got 595 signatures on it, more would be better I think http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/keep-the-south-london-line-link-at-denmark-hill.html -
I received an email from a friend (who should know better) about this today, you know the sort: >>>> Please forward this on to your friends, we cannot let them stop us from being British >>> The world-famous Red Arrows have been banned from appearing at the 2012 >>>London Olympics because they are deemed "too British" etc etc I see the online petition's got 185,000 signatures, kind of puts this online petition thing to shame really. Read something you don't like in the Sun and/or Daily Mail, believe it, then start a petition. There are 8,383 e-petitions on the government's e-petition site including Grant Liam Howlett a knighthood and, my favourite, make July 1st "Princess Diana Day". Dilutes the strength of proper petitions which is annoying, looks like the days of direct action will be back before long.

Attack - Oglander Road (at the beginning of October)
Mark replied to Blue10's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
you can use "reasonable force" to defend yourself according to the law. Kicking the shit out of them to teach them a lesson wouldn't stand as reasonable force, but a punch in the mouth would if it was to stop them from attacking you. -
Sorry Ted Max, I thought I had, it's on the list now and I've also taken "Lord" off the Lord Palmerston

Hi Blue10, sorry to hear about that and hope you're ok. Could you let us know what these girls look like please? -

nice suggestion but unfortunately my voting system only allows one vote per person but I'll investigate to see if that option's available some other way.

added the Plough and Green & Blue added "award" to the title ;-)

Shortly our local Landlords will be polishing their pumps and telling their staff to be on their best behaviour as it's almost time for the people to vote for the Best Bar in East Dulwich 2007. The Black Cherry won last year and they are still proudly displaying their trophy behind the bar. This year, considering we have a lot more users to the site, there'll be a lot more panache and desire attached to this prestigious award. I'm mentioning it in the Lounge initially as I want to check that I have all the bars in East Dulwich on my list and I know people in here like a drink or two. Please note that as much as I would like to include close-by places such as the Gowlett and the George Canning I'm afraid they are out the area and I have to draw the line somewhere. Here's the list: Franklins Green & Blue Inside 72 Liquorish The Bishop The Black Cherry The Castle The Clock House The Crystal Palace Tavern (CPT) The Drum The East Dulwich Tavern (EDT) The Forest Hill Tavern (FHT) The Harvester The Herne The Palmerston The Magdala The Plough The Vale Uplands Are there any pubs/bars missing? The voting will probably start next week and run for two weeks. Oh, and the reason it's the "best bar" and not the "best pub or bar" is because it's too tight to fit it on the trophy plaque. And all pubs have a bar.
