Do they still have Lucky 7s at the Gowlett? If so, you need to get yourself along to that Jocky, always a great night. London is fab and its true, life is what you make it. (Tho I do sometimes wish I wasn't looking at the same old field night after night, worrying about levels of interest in my melons).

On a similar theme to this thread, I remember feeling frustrated with seemingly constant recommendations for a new hairdresser on here. Felt like a day didn't go by without someone putting in a glowing review about their scissor skills. Aaaanyway, it worked as I gave in, tried them out and thought they were pretty good so er... posted a review myself! ;-)

Where are they next week? Let me guess. Edinburgh cooking haggis? Fekkers.
-
Anyone else wondering how *Bob* feels about garden labourers? Just me then.

I think you should ask Allycat who posts on here occasionally, I seem to remember a swishing/swooshing?! event was organised and was successful for selling unwanted, good quality clothes in one fell swoop.

I didn't realise it could be seen online via STV player* Totally agree with you that its shoddy they aren't showing it outside of Scotland, especially due to the fact that no matter the outcome, there will be ramifications for the whole of the UK. Have also dealt with Darling up close in the past and found him to be an impressive speaker. This thread makes me realise how much MM is missed, along with some intelligent debate. (Not from me, I hasten to add). *mainly due to not knowing about STV player's existence!

Glad to hear it. Skimming that thread (thumbs up then becomes thumbs down?!) is comedy gold. "Last week he was a plumbing god. This week not so much" "watertight excuses" I could go on but I'm all wringled out.

its maddening when people delete their posts seconds after posting!!! (waves to Woody) what did you say Loz?! Jeremy, no its not controversial at all to suggest that boys & girls prefer different types of games. There was nothing to suggest that the gaming research mentioned was of the shoot-em-up kind tho. I just don't like it when its assumed that things are 'for girls' or 'for boys'. I am not really into computer games these days but I quite liked space invaders back in the 80s or whenever they were invented!

So how's the new bathroom coming along, *Bob*?

Why is it aimed at just boys anyway? Irritating to see this stuff in the lounge I agree.

The Gowlett was always my favourite. Not in ED mind.

Is he any good then? ;)

no, you are absolutely right, cars ARE lethal. I definitely don't see any reason why cyclists should ever bother with lights because cars are lethal killing machines. Let us campaign for this unfair law to be over-ruled. Why should cyclists be required to have lights, especially at night? Who thought that one up? Let us teach children that whatever happens on the road, it will always be the lethal car* driver's fault. This thread is most defintely NOT about cars vs cyclists. Let us deflect attention away from the behaviour of the cyclist mentioned by cedes. Any other road users that disagree with certain rules, just forget about it. Do your own thing with righteous indignation. *including you, zipcars. -

ladyd I pretty much agree with all that but it works both ways, this thread is about a cyclist who was behaving irresponsibly on the road, it was not setting a good example to the child, it did nothing to help the cause of other cyclists who DO bother to use lights at night etc etc. cars kill other car users too, of course they are dangerous. but to absolve THIS cyclist of any blame for not being more responsible on the road is just wrong and only goes to serve more of the 'them and us' attitude that is so prevalent. No-one is saying "roads belong to drivers". But darwinism in action is a cyclist taking their child out on the road at night wihtout bothering about lights, no excuse. To say so is not 'anti-cycling' or 'pro-driving'. -

StraferJack Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There was no them and us comments. If you are intelligent enough to KNOW you are more vulnerable on the road (applies motorcyclists too who in my experience are excellent at displaying awareness of road safety, ensuring visibility), it is nothing more than common sense to not endanger your life any more than necessary by being more visible. Even more so when you have a child with you. Especially at night. This thread is about "the cycling adult on goodrich road". If someone wants to post a thread about a driver being irresponsible on Goodrich Road, then fair enough. Now this thread is attracting idiotic anti cycling comments because of the 'them and us' attitude espoused earlier. I give up. ps what AQ said. -
oh no polly, cassoulet (in my experience anyway) is just sausages, white beans, good stock, breadcrumbs, bouquet garni, garlic etc. very cheap which is why I picked it for serving to a large crowd ;) ps what the Radiant Bhuna said - excellent suggestion. oh I was going to suggest SJ's bouilllabaisse but not so sure if appeals to all, adults and children alike. would second beef bourguignon tho.

But let's say I > had to cycle home with my daughter at 11 at night > and had no lights ( battery? Personal rule? > Vandalism? I dunno) > > In any case I would be confident about street > lights and cars headlights providing sufficient > visibility. I certainly wouldn't accept I would > be trying to get my child killed I don't understand your thinking either. So if we're speculating here (and you are), then what if my car headlights were damaged by vandalism, battery, whatever - would that be OK for me just to drive home without using them? because rules only apply to some road users and not others? It is not okay to endanger lives by cycling at night without lights, (in THIS case, a child, who has no say) it sets a bad example. It is irresponsible. Wilfully negligent as said above. -
Is it too boring to suggest a cassoulet (easy to prepare, you will be able to get excellent sausages locally and this dish is good for large groups where everyone can help themselves, easy to reheat). chicken chasseur? peas with lettuce (gorgeous). endive salad, quiches with french cheeses. tapenade and bread to share. wine. oh I wish I was in France.

StraferJack Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Which bit of me saying I drive at night lead you > to think "anti car"?? As I said previously, it was pretty much all your comments on this thread that seemed divisive. them and us. drivers. cyclists. That is how it comes across to me. So cycling at night without lights, not teaching a child basic road safety which most cyclists will agree with, that's ok is it? -

okay excuse my bad grammar. headlights - I meant on the bike, not car. is everyone so anti-car they never make use of them? ever? it benefits all road users to have lights at night, every safety measure we can possibly take will help, won't it? -
what seabag said too. soulless horrible place mind you people do have that taste in decor so someone may well live there. that's why I didn't comment on the awful black walls but now jeremy has I feel I can too, thought it was maybe just me being an old git and not appreciating 'modern' tastes in home decor. 2k to look at brick wall from your kitchen window. yes yes its in london etc etc but even so...

"I don't fundamentally have a problem with people cycling at night. Even kids. There is street lighting and your headlamps. How much help do drivers need not to kill someone ?" ...but SJ in this case there were NO headlamps. It is irresponsible of the parent/adult not practising safe cycling esp where a child is involved, they don't make the choices. Please don't tell me everyone who is anti-car has never made use of it or do we all cycle to the airport to catch those completely unnecessary flights these days? I find your comments on this thread to be doing nothing other than stoking the fire of the cyclist v's drivers 'debate'. I agree with everything cedges said and although the comments may come across as over the top, you can tell how strongly they feel about it after witnessing it. All road users should be concerned about safety of course. Cedges is a cyclist quite rightly commenting on the bad practice of another cyclist. Is that not allowed? If you are an adult and want to cycle without lights, go ahead. You are contributing towards giving other cyclists a bad name which really does nothing to help further the 'cause' of road safety for all. east dulwich!
