Alan Partridge (also popularity of Miranda, British Bake Off and the like. Most TV progs actually) Candy Crush. Golf. Just why? YSL Touche eclat and Bobbi Brown's shimmer brick. Utterly useless products that everyone raves about. Hair straighteners. I have boring straight hair. One of my friends has pretty much the same 'style' of hair as me. She offered to 'straighten' my hair whilst I was round at hers getting ready to go out. Mystified. I just don't 'get' this craze at all. Esp if your hair is not remotely curly. Modern jazz. Those Meerkats. Cannabis. Orla Kiely/ Cath Kidston stuff faux twee/vintage. Body piercing. Birkenstocks. Bacon on a burger. "Chick" Lit. Esp the phrase itself. Ugh. Lists (thank you Jah) ;-)

...sitting alone in a quaint little cafe mid-afternoon* watching the world go by, having treated yourself to a good cup of coffee and a pastry, perhaps a new book (or two) to idly leaf through. Sheer decadence. *has to be on a weekday.

never felt the forum was 'cliquey', so never felt unable to post on here. obviously realise that with previous drinks meet-ups that some posters had met IRL, which is bound to give some familiarity to their posts with one another (still find that this didn't exclude newbies from joining in). have no idea who moderates the forum (how do people know this unless they are serial long-time lurkers/posters?)

blimey I remember being charged 6 quid from Franklins to the Gardens (taking ill friend home...) and so thought your fare wasn't that bad Sue! Maybe I was ripped off.... got taxi once from dog kennel hill to hindmans costing 7 quid during the afternoon thought that was pricey at the time but maybe not. (i had lots of bags before anyone thinks I was being lazy).

Mostly people are surprised that people with areas of low immigrant populations are against them but its the threat to the status quo that must be a factor? Anyway, I realise that I am talking to myself on this thread but I just want to say, I am quite surprised at the stereotyping being perpetuated....so its okay to call people from Norfolk inbred halfwits (with webbed feet), is it? Nice.

oh god where has Woody disappeared to? This thread was made for him. I'd love to see his take on it. Also, that of Ted Max and Hooch. Sob.

cartoon with a thesaurus. (one of the unkinder comments I spotted after one of my FB friends 'liked' his response to being on QT. Its all a load of drivel. I started reading it but found the initial comments about farage drinking too much unfair, as anyone who has suffered from an addiction should understand. I used to find Brand a teeny bit annoying, then I thought he was oh-kay for a while, now I find him completely and utterly unbearable).

until I was about 13, I believed that haggis existed (one leg shorter than the other, running around the hills in circles etc) Reiki. WTF is that all about? What a load of shit & how can anyone possibly fall for it?

Much Wenlock in Shropshire. Strange. In fact, I find 'middle' England very, very strange. Until recently (ish), I would have ventured Lewes but I am sure they're just lovely now ;) Agree parts of Norfolk can be quite odd. King's Lynn would have been a fine town in the past (during Hanseatic times..yes that far back). Whitby was slightly odd (in a good way). Perhaps it was the gothic stuff mixed with fish & chips & being up north. Yeovil. Godawful. But that's more shithole than strange.

I'm rubbish at this, aren't I?

agree Mr Ben, it is utterly depressing.

Would he have made such a vast fortune without the enterprising spirit of those early record companies I wonder ;)

Can anyone recommend a restaurant near London Bridge?
numbers replied to yeknomyeknom's topic in The Lounge
too late for you but I adore Simon the Tanner. Gorgeous back street boozer away from the hustle & bustle of Bermondsey St and a great menu. -

Tony Benn and his ?5 million legacy (none of which went to the Labour party, eh workers?). It's all too easy to 'stand for something' when you are stinking rich though, isn't it*? I'd hazard a guess and say its a damn sight easier than when you are impoverished and have very little choice. * e.g. just look at Billy Bragg.

The guardian reading > middle class urban socialist is as far removed > from traditional Labour voters as the toff Tories. I would go as far as saying that 'working-class Tories' would likely identify with the 'traditional Labour voters' more so than any champagne socialist Guardian-reading middle class types ever would. During the independence referendum, it was only the likes of Brian Wilson and Alasdair Darling who did remotely anything to reinforce support for Labour in Scotland. Milibean was completely and utterly useless and ineffectual.

Arf! one for the pudding, one for me, one for the pudding, another for me, etc etc...rinse and repeat. I love Christmas puddings I throw any old booze in there, sherry, port, dark rum, armagnac whatever I can get my hands on. It is lethal.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say I am thoroughly sick of bacon. It doesn't cure (ha) everything. I don't like it in: a bloody mary, a burger, macaroni cheese, cheese on toast, anything with kale. Much as I enjoy reading fabulous food blogger, Niamh Shields of Eat Like a Girl fame, I switched off during Project Bacon. Bacon jam was the buzzword on twitter a few years ago, drove me nuts. Cup of Assam or strong builders and a good bacon sandwich has its place though. I miss Homemade on Barry Road for that. PS: Don't start me on bastard "candied bacon" either. *grumps off*

In fact, I think it tops the Norfolk pub that 'ironically' deep fries sandwiches in batter.

Don't have the details but you could order one online from here: http://www.oldfashionedpuddings.co.uk/meat-puddings-2 Even better, make a start on your own this weekend you still have time on your hands...just, they are so so easy to make. Top up with loads of booze until Christmas. Job done.

Haha Jah and Seabag you read my mind! Love all the suggestions. Actually Red Leicester is a great choice I got into habit of making it chilli cheese on toast though, so colourful, so hot. But bog standard cheese on toast is great. Glad no-one mentioned bacon. Or kale. Grilled cheese sandwich in the states is a fried in butter cheese and not cheese on toast, grilled. Weird eh.
