  1. Technically, I shouldn't really be contributing to this thread but what the hell, its Friday. Alan Johnson's memoir, 'Please, Mister Postman'. An absolutely fascinating account into what London was like back in the day, I'm reading it on recommendation by a very dear friend who grew up in the same part of London and is of similar age to him. Going to go back in time and read his childhood memoirs next. Alongside John Smith RIP he is one of the few politicians I can be arsed with. I think I can see where the great, late Sir Pterry Pratchett found material for Going Postal too.

  3. aw I loved that place, remember meeting the lovely Annette Curtain there who saved me a good seat. the variety of comedy on show was excellent some were side-splittingly funny, at other times quite bizarre.
  4. Books. A home without books feels strange.

She can debate well but scratch beneath the surface and its all bollocks.
  6. Waiting in a long queue for the female toilets (only 2!) at say, an agricultural show and when it's finally your turn both cubicles become free at the same time. Can't explain it but it just doesn't seem fair that the person behind me in queue gets to go too! Why am I never that person? Waah it's all so unfair. I may have posted about this before.

In the absence of Labour and feeling there was no alternative to Tories they voted SNP and got...Tory! The SNP have ruined the NHS in Scotland over last 7 years private companies have been given everyone's records it's been entirely devolved yet they still blame Westminster. Nicola bloody Sturgeon can afford to pay for her own prescriptions. They masquerade as socialists and they are anything but. Blah blah is correct in that for them it's nationalism at all costs. FFA even if it makes everyone poorer. They are a ghastly rabble and I'm looking forward to the inevitable in-fighting between Nicola and Alex as she tries to play it down (for the moment) whilst this self-important, chip on his shoulder, unlikeable embarrassment to Scotland continues to push for it. Scotland and North Korea...who knew?! On a separate note, someone I know shared a piece by Suzanne Moore on social media which I was surprised to find myself agreeing with. It was, I kid you not, about how those that inhabit the echo chambers of social media should get out from behind.. social media and into the real world!! Heheh. Also, what Quids and Tillie said several pages ago, completely agree!
  8. fair point, it depends on quality of life. Not eating or moving then you know its time - and kindest to take them to the vet. If its a resounding no, then clearly rehoming is not an option as that in itself can be very stressful without a serious illness to consider.
  9. How sad. Has your neighbour asked the Cats Protection charity if they could take him? I don't think they put animals to sleep and can often match older/unwell cats to good homes. PS woody/whoever you are now... you can do one! I know you're reading this.
  10. yes really AM!!

Loz - wishing you well with it, local forums are a great resource and everywhere should have one (though secretly I don't think any will ever hold such a special place in my heart as this).
  12. I'd just stay in the Gowlett but I appreciate that's not the advice you were looking for!
  13. The Beatles. Jeremy, I'm not a kid yet I like the Black Eyed Peas I'll have you know!
  14. Jah - this is handy for checking to see which new contract/provider is best for you, however, you can set it to rule out certain ones if you have had it up to here with them and know you won't return (I did and thankfully Vodafone did not come up in my results). Developed by mathematicians from Oxford Uni, it is brilliant. http://www.billmonitor.com

Don't forget that there are Labour supporters who vote UKIP too, & plenty of em. There are also working-class Tories, though they don't seem to attract as much coverage as the toffs. Wish Quids were here to cut through some of the crap on this thread (not referring to your post Louisa btw) with his acerbic wit and astute observations. Talking of which, you let that 200 get away Maxxi!!! :)
  16. Or she otta! Anyway, I hope tarot isn't an Archers fan what with the current sexual tension building up between Adam and Charlie :)
  17. Yes absolutely! Wise to ignore. Muley posted a cracking comment on another thread will try to link to it.
  18. With such ridiculous views that should say!

Haven't you worked out that trying to reason with someone with such views they started a thread about it is pointless? Oh do forgive me, you're new here aren't you?
  20. 200 (bonus points for a quids thread. take that!)
  21. I get the feeling if the good doctor medic was still here, he'd have posted on this thread by now.
  22. Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I don't think bb is claiming to be a child > psychologist per se... just someone who knows a > little bit about it. Er...really? When someone on an internet forum makes claims that cannot be verified, "that there is nothing you can teach them about ...[insert brainy subject]", that seems a little more than someone saying they know a bit about it. Compounded by the implication that the subject at hand is part of their profession. Anyway, there's NOTHING you can teach me about thermonuclear dynamics. Not that its anything to do with my work you understand.
  23. poor you Pugwash, that sounds utterly horrendous and in my experience Vodafone are extremely incompetent. I was with them for aaaages and then when I 'upgraded' my phone one year found I was being billed for things I hadn't requested such as TV on my phone (I didn't even know I could get TV on my phone at the time). Similarly I found it difficult to resolve the problem with them as I was pushed from pillar to post and given conflicting and incorrect information each time. I lost my patience and will to live, finally cancelled my contract and moved to a different supplier and haven't looked back since. I think they are utter bastards and I would not recommend them to anyone. Have you made an official complaint directly to Vodafone yet? Document everything as you have outlined in your post. If you don't get a satisfactory response within a certain amount of time then you should take it up with Ofcom and make a complaint about them. Hopefully the regulator will be able to investigate it for you. Vodafone are utterly useless, you have my sympathy. I'd rather go without a phone if they were the only provider left. Good luck!

    Smart meters

I agree with tomdhu. the whole expensive program has been a fiasco, the main benefit being to the energy company who saves on costs by not having to employ billing and meter reading staff. they aren't 'free' either, you end up paying for them through your bills. no wonder EDF are keen to install one. and no, they don't save the planet by reducing energy consumption either.
