  1. Is it mere coincidence that on the left-hand side of the article linked to is one entitled '5 ways to get rid of cats in your garden'? edit: i think I mean on the right-hand side. as you are looking at the screen. oops.

What an odd thing to say blah blah. I cannot think of many child psychologists who would engage with a poster like tarot in such a way esp to the extent of asking them to provide a credible research paper (which we all know is futile).

Perhaps the > anti-English sentiment is more about Westminster > power than hatred of the English? miga, reading it back i did not mean that comment to be aimed specifically at yours. I do get what you mean about ethnically based nationalism and yes of course there are many different facets, not all sinister. That saying, I'd be inclined to disagree that a lot of the anti-English sentiment rearing its ugly head throughout the indyref before and beyond is more about Westminster powers.
  5. A machine that makes any cocktail you wish at the touch of a button. Has to be absolutely bang on each time, no inferior ingredients or substitutes allowed. Perfectly shaken/stirred or muddled and always in the correct glass.
  6. I think the anti-English sentiment and divisiveness that has been created has been extremely unsavoury. Nicola Sturgeon was not taken to task on any of the recent debates but came across well as a good debater. Does make me wonder how many would tolerate 'English Nationalists' as much as they appear to murmur their support for the Scots Nats. Am loathe to say this but I doubt that many outside of Scotland have a real understanding of the damage they have reaped over the referendum etc. They are keen to blame Westminster (the 'English'/London) for things that they already have control of. Privatisation of the NHS? How about giving all healthcare records over to a private company? Socialists my arse. As maxxi said, they will say whatever it takes to get a grip on power but for them its nationalism at all costs. They based a lot of their promises to the country on ridiculous sums e.g oil price that has collapsed but hey...they have Scotland's best interest at heart?! (er...NO, they don't). Scottish voters feel massively let down by Labour and we have the YESNP who will capitalise on anything and promise everything (7 years in power and people say Sturgeon was refreshing?! WTF)
  7. Every time I look at the lounge and see threads like this... rather than despair, I look at the numerous decent posters who have responded and take consolation from the fact that there is still more good than bad on here. Poor show tarot and you are as much a construct as others that are more well-known (and liked).
  8. Coniston is great, that's where I stayed when on a field trip many years ago with a large group of us. I don't think the accommodation would be considered fancy enough for a holiday but for a group spending most of their time outdoors it was absolutely fine, if a little basic. It was so good I cannot remember the names of the places we went to!

    Park life

Peckham Rye is my favourite too, have lots of happy memories of meeting friends, walking or jogging round on Sat with mccabes group, plays in the park, picnics etc. It is such a beautiful park with hidden gems. Was also on my doorstep so that helped. I also love Nunhead Cemetery for walks, in places you cannot hear traffic & it's hard to believe you're in London until you stop at the magnificent view over to St.Paul's. I have painful memories of a boot camp in a Dulwich Park.
  10. She's been described as the best leader Labour never had, if only her head hadn't been turned by Nationalism. Anyway despite the fact I loathe the paper, I thought this article was worth a read. http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/opinion/columnists/article4415304.ece
  11. Everyone knows that shellac manicures look best (& last longer) in metallic colours so, quite frankly, I have no idea what the huge fuss is about. Newsprint-free too. Bargain.
  12. gosh...didn't realise Louisa had such a fan club, even those new to the forum are rejoicing!
  13. Oh dear. Has turned very nasty. Lost me at accusing someone of being a ...single mother!!

  15. Give me tedious and repetitive posts from Louisa over tedious and repetitive posts from nameless others any day of the week. Can't see anything bad from yesterday either unless they've been deleted. I always enjoy seeing Louisa posts, too early to retire just yet. Hope you return Louisa, the ros? is always chilled and I have some Waitrose organic manuka smoked olives, I mean, Iceland party sausage rolls defrosting as I type. Cheers. numbers.

Is this about right? I apologise in advance for my answer. Basically, you've reminded me about the basic principles of sedimentology (yawn). The bigger grains will settle out first. It's all due to the shape, size, sphericity and sorting. Sadly, its not just a simple case of increasing your quota of raising to balance it out. Do you like prunes by any chance HMB?
  17. Don't know why Otta but that has reminded me of a lovely, usually rational, pretty sensible friend who turned into a bridezilla from hell at one of her dress fittings. She insisted that the bridesmaid's dresses were a teensy tiny ever-so-slightly different hue (not colour, not even shade) than the belts that were supposed to match them. Had the mother of all meltdowns with the seamstress right in the middle of the shop, whilst the rest of us looked on in sheer horror as we tried to reassure her - in vain - that the colours were exactly the same.

Jeremy they're not mutually exclusive, you can still have empathy with humans. I guess. spelling!
  19. Canadian politics must be dreary MrBen, otherwise you've sold Canada to the EDF!

Oh no Jeremy I have lost the plot then... and I usually agree with all your posts! poor old fox... Even the wonderful Professor Steve Jones (FRS, geneticist) thinks that humans have reached their evolutionary peak. There is no geographical distance between us anymore, we simply cannot evolve. Humans schumans. The Singularity is upon us etc Er... shouldn't this be in the Lounge now? ;-)
  21. "These are all very well, but what?s it like for messing about in and getting wankered?" Brilliant read, as ever. It had me pining for a misspent youth* in Streatham Hill, Brixton Hill, LJ with lock-ins in pubs run by lovely irishmen, dodgy cab offices, fleapit cinemas where you could watch afternoon matinees with your flatmate (crucially you'd be the only ones there, skiving from work), whilst sipping cheap bulgarian red (2 bottles for a fiver) in trashy brushed gold wine goblets. Oh those heady days... * 20-cough-something.
  22. I better move to North Yorkshire and avoid East Somerset then...found the questions and analysis very odd.
  23. Top Gear?

'mineral rich'. Never had that as top of my list of reasons for moving to a new country/continent before. I suppose it depends on what industry you are in. Did you forget canoes? Thought Canada was famous for those too? Also, poutine...!
