  1. Couldn't you give the voucher back, get the cashback they offered you and then go to John Lewis? I have heard horrible stories about Comet and Curry aftersales. And does Comet charge for delivery? JL is free. Southwark will take away the old machine for free as well.
  2. I agree with Sue.
  3. ClareC, The green bags that Southwark give out are very strong and they don't have any smell. I also find them useful to give my dog a drink of water in Dulwich Park. I use the drinking fountain and put water in a clean bag, put it on the ground and fold it back. My dog happily drinks out of it.
  4. Think 1600 machines are common now, so even drier clothes!
  5. First mate, I guess I do get it, but as these people use the streets themselves, to walk their dogs, and for other reasons and I presume their loved ones and friend salso use the streets they just might work out that it would be more pleasant for every dog owner to do their bit. Perhaps that is being unnaturally hopeful. Perhaps they would just blame their upbringing! Really wanted to put that little reminder out there that there are the free poo bags available!!! And regarding using mobiles while driving and turning, I take great delight in shouting at those engaging in that sort of behaviour - I even tap on their windows if they are stopped in traffic. Love to see the look on their faces. Maybe it will sink in. I have a friend whose car was hit by a person who was driving while on their phone.
  6. I looked on the John Lewis website and they have an own brand washer/dryer which for a limited time has a 5 year guarantee. It says it is German made. Think it is ?599. Might be worth looking at. I have no idea how they compare to Miele ones though. Maybe the Which report or Good Housekeeping has tested it.
  7. Saw one on a walk up Adys Road yesterday afternoon. On way back there was a 'fresh' one near junction of Ondine Road. I just don't get how owners don't pick it up. Southwark Council offers free dog poo bags, available from the libraries in case anyone didn't know. Another reason for there to be no excuse.
  8. Miele does a washer dryer. A friend of mine got one from John Lewis. She loves it. She had a really crappy washer dryer before which was incredibly noisy and slow. I house-sat for her and can vouch for that. Can't remember what brand though. Think the drums are smaller though. I have heard that if one thing breaks, like the dryer part, then the washer is also broken. Do you not have room for a separate tumble dryer. If there is room then that is preferable. Usually washer dryers are only installed when there are space constraints. You could get a cheap dryer and if it is a condenser then it can go anywhere as it doesn't need to be vented.
  9. I sent him two emails recently - in the past 2 weeks - and he hasn't replied. He did reply to earlier ones though.
  10. I have T-mobile and haven't had any probs. Down at Grove Vale End.
  11. Check the Land Registry too see who owns it. Put a note through the door asking if they want to rent part of it.
  12. It sounds like there are repeat offenders on certain roads. There was a thread about this recently regarding poo near St. John's School. Has that got any better? I think it is worse in the parks. I have seen one guy with a yellow labrador using both Warwick Gardens and Peckham Rye and not picking up his dog's mess. He usually walks ahead of his dog or looks in the opposite direction while the dog does his business in an effort to pretend not to notice. I remonstrated with him in Warwick Gardens and he ignored me for about ten minutes while he read a paper and then walked over to the poo and squashed it into the ground with a bag. Did not pick it up. Obviously didn't want a woman telling him what to do! An employee of a well known dog walker was fined in Peckham Rye for not picking up one of her charge's poos. I also saw another of that dog walker's employees ignore a poo and when I told her about it she said she was too busy to pick it up. I think it is impossible to adequately police 4 plus dogs if they are all off the lead. What did the dog walker with the 6 dogs on Overhill Road look like Ludoscotts?

    rats

I like the idea of using terriers to kill rats. Saw some Jack Russells do that on a farm. Perhaps those with ratting dogs/terriers should volunteer them to help rat infested people in the area.
  14. The original poster, Emily, Woody's owner, said she had reported the incident to the police. How strange of the panel to say that no 'formal' complaint had been made.
  15. There should be provision under your house insurance policy to have someone come and have a look. They might need rodding. Happened to me once and I didn't have any inspection covers.

I agree. What a bizarre list of requests. He/she must walk around with their eyes shut.
  17. I got shingles when I was 27! Really hope I don't get them/it again because the worst form can cause blindness. Mine appeared as a cluster of itchy spots in the middle of my back and caused terrible nerve pains which radiated over my upper torso and arms. Having it on your face and around your eyes would be dreadful.
  18. Were the people attacked known to the intruders?
  19. I don't really remember how bad it was the first time I had chicken pox as was very young. Just remember feeling itchy and having baking soda baths to stop itching plus calamine lotion. All the children in the family had it at the same time so my mum was run ragged. Remember having the pox in my hair and eyebrows though!
  20. No, I also got shingles as well later on. That was only on my back with the most awful nerve pain. I know 2 other people who have had chicken pox twice. Luckily I haven't had the shingles again. Was told my case was very mild. It is more painful than chicken pox.
  21. You can get it twice - just thought I would mention it! It happened to me! Not nice.........once as a kid and then as an adult.
  22. jb is a he accrding to previous posting history and probably doesn't like any dogs.
  23. jb100, what kind of aggression are you experiencing with dogs in Peckham Rye. What do you mean by 'owners of these dogs won't take any notice of a law about keeping dogs on leads'? Which dogs? Which laws? If you have experienced agression then you should report it. You also said it is a small majority that keep aggressive breeds, do you mean a small minority?

Also you > mention the upper eastern seaboard getting heavy > snow regularly - then why were they having > transport problems in NY, NJ etc? I don't understand your posting. I said Virginia was in the South. I also wanted to point out that Washington DC was not a US State. I posted to agree with Sean that even in the parts of US, where heavy snowfall is more common than London, except for States in the South, they are having trouble with the massive amount of snow. People in North American and parts of Europe are very fond of posting on UK newspaper websites when we have snow over here to poke fun at the British when the UK has snow. Advice like get your car fitted with snow tires or chains etc or you need more snow-ploughs blah blah. There is no reason to have tons of snowploughs or change your tires if you hardly ever get snow. There is some sort of smug We Know What to Do When We Have Snow and You Don't attitude. A little snow is a lot to us here and a lot of snow is a a lot snow full stop.
  25. Sharon, your post asking what tommy meant by 'kick start the road' 'is very funny. Perhaps he is looking for another Lordship Lane. I like Bellenden Road with what it has now and a better term might have been to 'enhance the road further'.
