Louisa, does that mean that you would walk on Peckham Rye though, just not north of it!

Very sorry to hear of this. I wish the victim a speedy physical recovery. It could have happened anywhere in London. Leafy expensive areas like Hampstead, St. John's Wood, Richmond etc. are often targeted. A heavily pregnant woman was knocked to the ground and robbed in Hampstead about a year ago. Scum are everywhere.

The African / Carribean place on Bellenden Road

Esme, I too like Rice and Peas on Grove Vale. I often get a salt fish patty from there. Tried another place in Coldharbour Lane near Nandos but they weren't as nice. The best ones I've ever had have been from the Marylebone Market. 2 women have a stall and make delicious West Indian stuff, including cakes and chutneys. Can't remember their name though. -

There are some motorcycle taxi companies but don't know their names. -

Agree with this. Well behaved kids are usually always welcome anywhere, or at least they should be. I was in a certain cafe not too long ago and a dad had his little boy with him, probably about 3 years old. He allowed the boy to run amok while he sat and stared out the window. The little boy started pulling the skin (not petting) of well behaved dog who politely sitting in the cafe. I asked the chap to come and get his child as he was misbehaving. Guy got up, grabbed his child and left the cafe without saying anything to anyone. Could have been worse I suppose; he might have blamed the dog!

Jonathan Maitland, telly journalist, and the woman who plays Shirley on Eastenders - Linda Henry? - both at Sainsburys DKH. Have also seen Shirley/Linda at Tesco Express. She is absolutely tiny and delicate looking in real life.

Looked high and low for the price and couldn't find it. Decided not to because I thought that meant that they were rather high if the price hadn't been displayed. Also couldn't see anyone to ask. I did ask for help in finding something else in a different aisle and was astonished to be guided to where it was by a member of staff. That staff member then stayed near me to ask if there was anything else they could do. That is usually the kind of service Waitrose provides. I agree that Sainsburys is generally shambolic. I avoided it for a long time - before the refit - as everytime I went there my heart sank. I think it was due to the unpacked boxes everywhere and the managerial staff who seemed to be permanently hiding.

Regarding my posting, I knew how much money had been stolen as the female victim told me. She kept saying, 'It was only 30 pounds'. It seemed shocking to me too. A screwdriver can be a lethal weapon. It has made me very aware who is around and behind me while at cash points. I prefer to get cash back inside shops if possible, but not Somerfields.
-
I once witnessed a violent mugging at the HSBC cashpoint at 11 am on a weekday. A woman was withdrawing ?30 and one of two men behind her stuck a screwdriver into her ribs to make her drop the money. They then both ran off round the corner and got into a stolen car. Not something you would expect to see on a weekday. I also called the police. There was also a spate of them in the early morning, ie. 630 -7 am outside Barclays. People off to work early were being targeted by a specific gang and I believe the police laid a trap and caught them. Wonder how many of the cash points have overhead cameras.

Blackbird is hit or miss I find. Muffins quite often dry and overcooked. very ordinary croissants. Sandwiches usually good. White baguettes are sweetish. -
Wasps are skinnier, bumble bees are fat and bees are.......uh bees. Can't think how to describe them. I sat on a wasp once and he or she stung me and it was very painful.
-
Heidi Hi - Pretty sure you have to pay to have wasps nests removed. I had one in a loft a few years back and tried the council and they recommended someone to call. He removed it. It had a few sleepy wasps in it. This was in the autumn though.

Yes First Mate, I loved that place. The woman who used to cook, Fi, there now works at Jack's. She has been ill recently so hope she is better soon. So when did cafes start becoming creches - does anyone know? Don't people meet at each others houses anymore?

Sounds like a story for the South London Press and the Standard.

Black Cherry wasn't allowed to expand into their garden due to objections from neighbours. Are you sure MPC will be allowed to?

Really liked the food at Grace and Favour. Shame it was closed down due to the influx of breastfeeders blocking the small eating area with their pushchairs and not buying enough food.
-
I don't really like Petit Chou and haven't been in there for ages. The menu never seemed to vary; toasted sandwiches and soup. I would always go and have lunch at the old Blue Mountain when I was looking in Ed for a house. Back in those days there weren't many places to eat except for greasy spoons and pubs. Anyone remember when Grace and Favour had food?

DM, your little barker looks like a Bichpoo -Bichon x Poodle. That's an even better name than Cockapoo or Cockerpoo n'est-ce pas? Are you going to the Dog Day Arf-ternoon in Warwick Gardens? Or is that out of your comfort zone?
-
First Mate, kind of what I was thinking.....the Portuguese Water Dogs look like big cockerpoos. Although DM did say she told people she had a labradoodle as she didn't like saying the word cockerpoo. Show us a picture DM!
-
Dulwichmum have you changed dogs then? Last time you had a cockerpoodledoodle thingy.

Do you turn your mattress on a regular basis? Over, Side to side and top to bottom. You need to do that a lot in the first year or two. Also, what kind of base do you have the mattress on? If slatted, then are they close enough together or that can cause sagging.

Where do you get the Polish Rye bread from? I bought a huge round loaf of sliced Greek bread with sesame seeds on toptoday from Sophocles bakery today. They also had lots of Greek Easter pastries in. It is their Easter tomorrow. -
I think Ottolenghi should open a branch down here. His cookbook is sublime.
