  1. Groan I bet you still chuckled! ;-) It was PasoDoble as a joke
  2. So you dismiss the fact the the DfT figures that LTNs are based on are false because you don't like the strap line used.. Interesting how you try to dismiss key data that goes against your narrative just like that...
  3. Here's the data behind the story. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/road-traffic-statistics-information#minor-roads-traffic-estimate-review All this at the same time that the council are redesigning the junction in the village.
  4. The Sunday Telegraph has a piece on LTNs today, claiming that this week, a review of the Government’s Minor Road Traffic Estimates’ report, whose findings were frequently used to justify the schemes, found that the DfT had significantly over-counted the rise in traffic on residential streets between 2009 and 2019. In London, where figures suggesting an almost 60 per cent rise in minor road traffic and a 72 per cent rise on the smallest roads had been widely cited, there had in fact been no increase at all over the decade, the new data show. This leads to doubt that the LTN schemes have been implemented on correct assumptions. Hopefully this new information from the DfT will be the start of unravelling the mess LTNs have caused. The story is here https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/10/01/war-motorists-based-false-government-data-calls-scrap-ltns-grow/

  6. Don't get me wrong, I'm not objecting to the program on a Saturday night, people love it and it's a great bit of entertainment if you like that sort of show. What is getting to me is that every bbc live show (for example the one show, morning live ...) seems to be promoting Strictly like its the new religion of the Messiah. This morning they even featured it on the London Marathon commentary. No BBC just no, everything is not about promoting Strictly... What next, Strictly contestants hosting Songs of Praise 🫣 Anyone else getting fed up of the constant self promotion by the beeb ?
  7. Today Fares please Ding Ding
  8. That would be Keith, although he's ginger He lives locally and tends to announce himself loudly but is perfectly fine and loves popping in for snacks through other people's cat flaps He thinks he owns every house so he's possibly eyeing yours up for food 😏😎
  9. Obviously reads the EDF on the kittenet and realises he needs to pop home again 🤣 Glad he's back again
  10. Maybe more LTN objectors should join to change the narrative away from being pro LTN 🤔
  11. Can you post an image to help others identify them ?
  12. No, just saying 😪
  13. For one day only, there will be some classic buses running along the 37 route around Rye Lane (Saturday the 1st October) https://southwarknews.co.uk/featured/pre-war-rt-buses-returning-to-37-route-into-peckham/ Ding Ding
  14. I would suggest also looking at ikea kitchens which are just as good as the b&q / wicks ones With careful fitting all seem as good as each other but look at quality of hinges, handles and doors as that's where a kitchen looks shabby after a while
  15. Thanks DR for your insightful response. Certainly food for thought and a good explanation
  16. I'm mighty confused DR You seem to be making two contradicting statements "Tax cuts benefit the wealthiest more than the poorest." and "Tax rises hit the poorest more than the wealthiest." Cut it and the poor don't get the full benefit, raise it and the poor are impacted more. Forgive me for asking, but with taxes what's the solution because you seem to be saying damned if we do damned if we don't? My personal view is that if you encourage businesses to start or grow by offering tax advantages rather then penalties, the end result is that they need more staff, generate more income and even with a tax advantage, pay more to HMRC. Of course, this changes with larger companies who play the global taxation game, but in principle for SMEs growth and lower taxes are beneficial and these benefits trickle down to the general population in the form of lower prices and jobs.
  17. Making it dangerous for the blind, elderly or disabled is not exactly "teething problems" 🤔
  18. Just saw this on twitter Interesting view on the consultation

  20. Will this thread expire tomorrow when BJ officially steps down? Will it morph into another title? Or will it remain and just become a PM bashing thread regardless of who's in charge? "Curious and Curiouser" said Alice
  21. I could be wrong, but from what I read the far east bought gas on the futures market 6 to 12 months ago thus tying up any extra capacity in the system to shore up their exit from covid and a return to manufacturing. Sadly, with a privatised market here and in parts of Europe, that didn't happen as there was a failure globally to predict what was about to happen I agree, the solution needs cross party working but equally it needs a global response to what is happening at home and abroad. We aren't the only country in this situation however the summer recess obviously didn't help nor did the whole fiasco over choosing a new leader which could have been compressed by weeks. The solution isn't simple nor is it solely in the UKs remit alone as its a global crisis, despite the impression our media gives.
  22. Strange week The G7 announced a gas price cap to stop Russia dictating the price of gas swiftly followed by Gazprom announcing the indefinite cloure of Nord Stream 1 "due to a leak" Meanwhile Russia appeared to be burning off excess gas at one of their drilling platforms . The Far East has bought a lot of gas at a fixed long term futures price which ties up production for this winter at least which also has a knock on effect on the global gas prices. What's the next steps that can be taken to keep global gas prices from spiralling even higher in the short to medium term ?
  23. If you do want to sell home cooked food then read this first as it tells you all you would need to consider. It even applies if you are giving food away on a regular basis that is home cooked. https://www.food.gov.uk/business-guidance/starting-a-food-business-from-home
