This was a response received regarding the brown bin situation. "As the stickers are now arriving we have not yet started removing brown bins. We will give people a further chance in case they have missed the notifications somehow (by leaving reminder hangers on the bins) and will then start removing those not paid for." 2. After your post decided to look whilst walking down the length of my street, approx 50 houses, like you I am the only one with a sticker. Even the "New Brown Bin" looks like it will only take 2 filled green waste bags.. Regret I paid ?25 should have ignored it like others seem to have done even though I have to have a large brown bin for garden waste and await the outcome. How will Southwark solve this muddle?

  5. Humdinger, just how long have you lived in London?
  6. Does this include the P13 ? Back to its old route. Thanks
  7. Cella wrote. Nobody is a mug for subscribing and paying as requested and from the info you've provided it's being sorted after an initial delay. Forcing the Council to issue warnings etc will only add to the overall costs so not sure why you're encouraging this. Perhaps it would have been better to have everything in place before it was rolled out?
  8. Lesson to all. Do not pay until you get the red demand letter and legal action. Who knows the way Southwark work it could be next year. Will we ever learn the numbers who the real mugs are that paid? "Thank you for your email. I can confirm that the payments for garden waste service have in fact already started and that residents who have subscribed will receive a letter and sticker for their bin by the end of this week. The council will be taking further action to encourage residents to make payments to use the service before withdrawing garden waste bins from those households that have not signed up for the service. It is therefore not the case that the paid for service has been postponed until August." Yours sincerely Councillor Richard Livingstone Cabinet member for Environment, Transport and the Climate Emergency Labour councillor for Old Kent Road Ward London Borough of Southwark
  9. I am sure I could represent many customers, All I want to do is pick up a trolly, fill it with goods, find a payment aisle or self service, pay and leave. If people want to use all this new stuff fine but remember many people do not. I shop on instinct, view into the trolly. unencumbered by a scanner. I really do think Sainsbury's have lost the plot some where along the line.

  11. This morning at Sainsburys was a joke. The large self service checkouts have been cut back to 4. 2 only for cash and 2 for cards. That is it. Ask a Manger and they say its not us. It took one person 20 minutes to look at her shopping decide what bag it should go in, another person did not have her card and went off to find money in all 25 minutes, no one using the cash tills. In effect the tills were shut down

If you have already paid for this service do you get 6o days credit when the next bill comes around? or will this payment be forgotten.
  13. Does any one know what is happening regarding the possible parking charge? Has it be scrapped or are they still figuring out if they can inforce it on people.
  14. Dont worry about losing the cash paid for this event not going on the parks upkeep, Southwark has that covered with the ?2.00 per hour parking charge from the small car park which is due to come into play soon.
  15. Do they do the same procedure to cyclists or are they exempt?
  16. You have not been the first person to have asked this question.Re: Brown bin collection - Council starting to charge? Posted by sally buying May 10, 06:24PM "I am sure this has been asked before, why has the garden waste and food waste now been separated into 2 items requiring collection, 3 if you include brown bags. Surely they all end up in the same compost heap just like a compost heap in ones garden. Apart from screwing money from residents did the old system not work? How many vehicles will be used by Southwark to collect all this?"
  17. I am surprised that the P13 route cannot be opened as cars are using that route with no problem. At the moment is is causing problems for residents who need the bus to get to Rye Lane. Open the route until needed then close it. Knowing how Southwark works this could go on for months or years.
  18. 35 miles an hour in the evening rush hour through the station traffic lights and the raised platform by Coplestone Road?
  19. You may not have needed the brown bin but many of us do so cannot understand why the brown bin cannot be used as per now for garden clippings and food wast. No one has answered as to how many dust carts will now be needed to collect from all these bins, 4 now in total
  20. cella Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So which bin for food waste? "Thank you for your email. Because of the massive level of year-on-year cuts from government in its grants to the council, we have had to take the decision to join the majority of other London councils that already charge for the collection of garden waste. The ?30 per year (?25 in the first year) charge that we are introducing will be one of the lowest in London and will start from June. Food waste, which will remain free for collection, should be put in a new food waste bin that the council will shortly be delivering to you. This will be much smaller than the brown bin and so hopefully should not create too much additional clutter. Best wishes Councillor Richard Livingstone Cabinet member for Environment, Transport Management and Air Quality Labour councillor for Old Kent Road Ward London Borough of Southwark How hollow does the same old reply seem when they can keep spending to replace existing equipment already in use. This thought did enter my mind, Out of interest where will the garden waste end up and where will the food waste end up. At the same place for decomposing? and will three separate collection vehicles be used on collection day? Blue or green along with large brown bin and now small brown bin.
  21. What happens in the Autumn when the leaves come down. I usually clear the pavement in front of my house and neighbours putting the leaves, and there are a lot, into the brown bins. With my council tax now raised to over ?2000+ I will not be doing it this year. No one else does it as most of the houses are split into flats. Southwark just let them pile up. Accidents will happen resulting in compensation claims.
  22. The expense of doing nothing is much higher. For example the Government Dept of Transport views each individual crash as costing - [www.gov.uk] Slight ?16,434 Serious ?213,184 (doesn't include costs before first 18month) Killed ?1,897,129 Out of interest how are these figures arrived at?
  23. Some one paid them money to dump. No other reason
  24. Start of the fly tipping season again. Would have thought BT would have learnt from the last time
  25. What next, premium phone lines to ring the Council. It is all getting a bit silly now. You could get rid of my local Cllrs and save money, they would not be missed
