  2. My wife used the above route you were talking about on Monday and came home and said where has all the traffic gone. Could not believe how empty all the roads were.

  4. I have circulation problem with my feet whereby I need to walk a lot. My dog and I use Dulwich Park once a day and sometimes twice as it is flat and pleasant and does not put to much pressure on my metatarsal bones due to fat loss. It gives us both the exercise that Doctors recommend. Prior to Champion Hill closing it took me 10/12 minutes by car to reach the park. Now I am looking at 25minutes sometimes more to get there. Now that this charge is being brought in I will have to consider if I can afford to go for 2/3 hours a day combined with other factors. Before the normal comments are made if I have to take public transport, which involves 2 buses and walking the journey will take a min of 40 minutes or longer each way. That time depends if the bus/s turns up on time or at all. My house is situated in the middle of a hill away from public transport. So it is already difficult to reach a starting point. Combine that with having a dog and the prospect does not really appeal after testing it. Getting a bus with a dog presents problems as mothers with prams that look like tanks take up most of the limited space parking space and space between the seats is very limited. So looking to use my local park which I have done for almost 73 years a return journey will now take me around 90 minutes without the time spent in the park. Factor into that being tired after walking, and it rains having a wet dog on a bus which will not please some the park is really getting out of reach. 6 days a week for me will cost ?36 a week extra for something that I already pay towards with my Council tax, which if the talk is correct will be over ?2000+ for this year. I cannot afford to pay to use my local park Some families will also have to make this decision. Locals in the Dulwich Park area can walk with no problem but other that are not and have have to travel with children, toddler bikes, scooters, toys and the family dog will have to consider if they can afford the park which is crazy. Getting on a bus is most of the time not an option. It might appear to some that the park and it surrounds is turning into a middle class ghetto which might just be used by only close residents. This is wrong. It is strange that Southwark keep pushing fitness but continue to make it difficult for many. Again another decision whilst looking at in a meeting has just not been thought through before putting it into operation.
  5. James Barber wrote. "Equally it does seem odd that quite so many drive to a park. especially when quite so many bus routes pass so close to Dulwich and Peckham Rye parks giving many real public transport options in addition to walking and cycling" Have you or Southwark made any investigation why this might be the case? Or is it a case of that fits what we all think round this table. Lets do it. TMO job done.
  6. Cannot get Rupert James picture up. Which show the true picture. Decided after writing do not have the strength to reply to I know what will 100% be coming. After a brief flurry in the morning the road is as shown. Its only the morning as coming on the homeward leg why would any go up Champion Hill when you cannot turn right at DKH. You keep to the main road. Does Southwark know where the traffic goes at the bottom of Champion Hill. Herne Hill of Camberwell? As has been pointed out its done and will stay done. Screw residents.
  7. There is a very good letter in Southwark's News Letter page, that for me and I suspect many others sums up the situation that is Champion Hill.
  8. I have asked Southwark Council why this option was never put forward for consideration. I am sure my lone voice will be ignored.

Surely if "our high street" cannot survive by local residents using it without resorting to a car there has to be some doubt as to its viability. Many shops/business in the area have closed because local residents do not use their high street. I may be wrong but I do not classify LL as a shopping destination. Bond Street yes.

Why dont you mention you are a full day CPZ and all surrounding roads are also full day CPZ's.Of course there will be more spaces pushing your lost traffic elsewhere. Most people outside of your CPZ wanted full day, just like you, but were turned down even when the majority % wanted it
  11. For your information Chadwick Road is already a CPZ, it is part of the DHK CPZ.

Southwarks long term plan This is Southwarks view on CPZ'S The council is actively supporting car clubs as an alternative to car ownership, every car club vehicle removes the need for our residents to own a car or own a second car. Zip Car and DriveNow have a contract with Southwark Council and they have purchased virtual permits for their vehicle fleet which allows them to park in any permitted parking bay in Southwark. Kind regards Joanna Redshaw
  13. I suspect that Southwark has already decided what will happen and this consultation is just a bit of window dressing. They consulted on our CPZ, what we requested as a majority was completely ignored and they did what they wanted.
  14. You have not explained why it should be closed. Will adopt a variation of the fox decision, when your name comes up avoid not worth the hassle. Your responses/views are well known by now. Just type "RendelHarris" most people will know your response to most subjects. "It's hardly delving into the past, it was a few days ago and I remember what you said - it stuck in my mind chiefly because it was so absurd. I'm afraid there's little point in engaging in debate with someone who says something one day then claims they didn't say it two weeks later," Goodnight
  15. Please explain why the junction should be closed.I have stated my point. Evidence to warrant closure. You really have a problem if you have to go to such lengths delving into the past to keep your ego intact. Await your reply. At least I am keeping you busy so you must be pleased. If you do not reply I will not be offended.
  16. I altered my post because I duplicated words which did not make sense. So I deleted. He belongs to the real ED.
  17. I have not said that. It does seem you are on auto pilot. Although I agree that apart from the rush hour Champion Hill in my experience does not get excessive traffic flows to warrant this scheme. However if the Champion Hill Junction is closed it will force traffic that normally uses route to reach other areas will be forced elsewhere. Grove Hill Road, Bromar and Pytchley Road to arrive after a large detour to where they want to get to on upper Denmark Hill. If you live on Champion Hill you will have to use this massive detour. I have voted against I hope others have as well.
  18. I thought we were talking of the effect of traffic being diverted to Grove Hill Road, Bromar Road etc.

Whilst it is good that people are showing this concern, I have not noticed any posts that show concern towards the tyre business that has been there for many many years. His business and future is under threat because of this development. How long before the Council makes it impossible for him to continue .
  20. After pupils never understood, is that why you gave up teaching?
  21. There were also toilets under the railway bridge by East Dulwich Station.

Much as when you > build roads, allow new routes for motor vehicles > new traffic is generated. Having lived on and around Champion Hill as a child since 1958 I have to admit I have not seen any major increase in traffic over the years apart from the brief burst when the rush hour is on. Not that you would really notice. Apart from that brief spurt it is pleasant for pedestrians, cyclists and car users with very little traffic and is safe to use. Appears that this looks like the Camberwell Grove mindset to ban vehicles. I thought I read you live on Champion Hill does that have an influence on you thinking. Thought Sally Buyings comments summed things up well.
