  1. Honestly you mean.
  2. Mr Bojangles Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Alan > > Why do you refer to where you live as "selbourne > village"? It's a joke.
  3. Pull the other one. It's never less confusing to say you live in one area when your post code says another. Just tell the truth. once you get the hang of it you'll start to feel really proud.

I am afraid they do. It's a big place. They are confused. But mainly they are spineless. One thing is true though. Whichever corner they are talking about they are all very positive about their bit of Camberwell.
  5. Yours is a tough one *Bob*. You should tell your arty media mates you live in East Dulwich and your middle aged parent mates you live in Peckham. This way you glean the minimum derived respect by association and so you have to earn it in other ways. Keeps you on your toes.
  6. If in doubt slum it out. Pick the least dinner party postcode in your dilemma and say it proud. Loughborough junction is SW9. The piano seller says he lives in Brixton.
  7. I think KalamityKel missed the inference that these offenders are putting East Dulwich SE5 or East Dulwich SE23 or similar. I don't think it was directed at people writing East Dulwich SE22. Whilst that is inefficient it is not misleading..
  8. I'm still in my prime. Dogs mean nothing to me.
  9. Make it so.
  10. Go on Sean let him off. Think of Mike and the Mechanics..

Whilst I wouldn't expect you to enjoy the same things that I enjoy about Camberwell I think you have to respect that my love of all things SE5 is in no way delusional.

  14. I think you are out of touch Maurice.
  15. Maurice Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I agree. I'm a very proud resident of The Grove. No more silly talk about moving to SE11 then Mo please.
  16. I accept that it is crude but is an objective measure. In the absence of a better measure it will suffice. If you want to get to Hoopers (and you should definitely give it a try!) then I suggest you direct your cabby to the top of Camberwell Grove. As for saying the Gowlett is not in Peckham then I think you are just flat wrong. How can we settle the dispute? Let's go for an objective measure. Post code perhaps...
  17. Separate thread about post code shame: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,74570
  18. Losttheplot asked on another thread why there is anything wrong with pretending to live in SE22 when you have an SE15 postcode. In my opinion it depends on whether you like living where you do. If you do then you shouldn't care what post code it is. If you don't then you should move. If despite liking your house and neighbourhood you find having an SE5, SE15 or other postcode makes you feel embarrassed at dinner parties then you have self esteem issues that you need to tackle rather than brush under the carpet with lies and deception. If your problem is the misconception of others that your SE15 post code makes you in some way inferior then it is that misconception you should address. Not your post code. My point about Camberwell has never been that it's lovely outside McDonalds it has always been that there is a lot more to Camberwell than the chaos at the bus stops. I am sure you know full well that there is a lot more to Peckham than gun crime and the death of Damilola Taylor but renouncing your post code merely compounds the ignorance. It is up to us to promote the merits of our neighbourhoods rather than migrate them to Dulwich.

That's just nuts. Post code shame is a mortal sin. You are right about having a postive outlook about Hoopers. It is definitely underrated and if people have misconstrued negative comments from my posts then I apologise. Great real ale, really friendly, guaranteed a seat, shows sport on a big screen, pool table and lap dancers! Seriously though, I've heard they are making a big effort this Sunday perhaps that will be the start of a new era of really prosperous trade..
  20. Just post a copy through every door in Selborne Village. See what I mean about mutual back patting?! I doubt I will make it into *Bob*'s Christmas message as his new boyfriend though.
  21. I know how emoticons work but I think they are for fools. I particularly abhor their use after insults. Pure cowardice. No amount of aceeed house iconography can make a comment like 'yes I would be shamed to live in Camberwell' into an acceptable tease. Especially as you now admit to having little knowledge of the area you so readily disparage. I reserve the right to get 'tetchy'. I am not interested in joining in with a mutual back patting club. Unless it's with my new boyfriend *Bob* or Psycho Sean the Womble supplier. As for Hoopers. I intend to go back soon for a toasted sandwich. I take your point about gastro overload but unless you can think of a way to make Hoopers profitable then that is the best option. Otherwise it's USP of personal service and a guaranteed seat may be a symptom of it's downfall*. * For downfall read extremely profitable conversion into residential flats.

  23. 1) Pathetic :)) 2) ED station is near the edge of ED. Denmark Hill is very definitely in Camberwell. 3) Try directing a cab to Hoopers of East Dulwich and see how far you get. It's at the top of Camberwell Grove. What I would like to see is a thriving gastro pub. What I do see is a contender for change of use permission and conversion into flats. That is my problem. No amount of shrugging and telling them they are innocent victims of circumstance doing a great job will save the pub. They need to serve food, have high chairs, accept credit cards, open from 11am until late, have friendly but unintrusive people behind the bar, play up to date music, erm... They should check out other residential pubs that are doing well and copy their business model. (The Gowlett, The Rosendale, The Wishing Well, The Grove for example) The first step is accepting that there is a problem and that the poor trade is not just bad luck or awkward circumstance. Say what you want about the Buckle but I think it's great and it's certainly always busy. A pub that does not serve food needs either lots of people or some heavy drinkers to survive. There are lots of heavy drinkers in the Buckle.
  24. Why? what was wrong with your wedding Keef? My Mum did post on Camberwellonline a couple of times when i got barred back in Sept 2006:- http://www.camberwellonline.co.uk/2006/09/stab-in-the-dark/#comment-6775
  25. SE42 - best of all worlds in my opinion.. Good luck with the cat. I'm sure 9 lives will be sufficient for a safe return..
